Anne and Becky move back to England with their husbands after their father passed away. Two completely different sisters living very different lifestyles. One sister is successful, the other, not so much. We learn of all their struggles as they settle back into living in England.
This book takes a look at family relationships. The relationships are complex. Infidelity plays its part. The pace is slow. This is a multilayered story. It did take me a little while to get into this book, but it was worth sticking with it. The characters all have their flaws, This is a character driven story. I liked the author's writing style. It's quite moving in places.

I would like to thank #NetGalley #BoldwoodBooks and the author #AmandaBrookfield for my ARC of #SistersandHusbands in exchange for an honest review.
No one gets to the heart of human relationships quite so perceptively as Brookfield.' The Mirror Ever since the death of their father twenty years before, beautiful thirty-two-year-old Anna has acted as her younger sister Becky’s support, playing the peace-maker in her stormy relationship with their mother, and counselling her through the traumas of a life that has always appeared charmless and problematic in comparison to her own.
Now married to wealthy, handsome David Lawrence, with a luxurious country home and a successful career in broadcasting, Anna’s good fortune looks set to continue. But when she unexpectedly falls pregnant and Becky’s marriage runs into trouble, the door to the sisters past suddenly swings open, exploding all their long-held perceptions both of each other and themselves.
loved it. will recommend to others.
This book is about two sisters Becky and Anna and their respective husbands. At the start of the book they all look happy but as time goes on life happens and things fall apart.
Anna's husband has retired early to pursue sculpting but is soon bored with staying at home. Anna falls pregnant when it was the last thing she wanted as she loves her high powered job.
Becky's husband has left a good job and is now working all hours in a restaurant but really wants to open his own.
Becky hardly sees her husband because of his long hours and when he's not working he's asked to look after his daughter by his ex wife.
For a good part of this book it was a bit of doom and gloom with no one really being happy with what they have.
There is a journey for then all to make to being happy again. It was a good read with a few twists in it.
this is about two sisters Anna and Rebecca, and their husbands, as they navigate some life issues. I enjoyed it very much.
This is an interesting book about, sisters, Anna and Becky, and their husbands, David and Joe. It is their journey of finding the life they have, and as they move forward in life, things happen, and they have to decide along the way, where they go from here. They all thought they had their lives all mapped out, but life isn't like that. When they start having marital problems, we see what happens there. The story reminds me of being backed into a corner, and you have to figure your way out. Sometimes it takes more than one try.
I received an ARC from Boldwood Books through NetGalley.
This book was entertaining but not my favorite. It was worth the read if you are looking for an interesting story to follow along. The relationship between parents and children, sisters and their husbands.

A Quiet Exploration of Family Life That Wasn’t the Right Fit for Me;
Amanda Brookfield’s Sisters and Husbands offers a polished and thoughtful look at family relationships, sibling dynamics, and the challenges of navigating life’s emotional complexities. Her prose is elegant, and the themes she tackles are weighty and realistic.
That said, I struggled to connect with this book. The narrative is very much a quiet character study, following the everyday lives of its protagonists with minimal external action or tension. While some readers may enjoy this introspective, slice-of-life approach, I found it difficult to stay engaged. The pacing felt slow, and the characters’ choices often left me feeling disconnected.
Ultimately, I believe the story will appeal to readers who love reflective, character-driven stories about ordinary lives. Unfortunately, it wasn’t the right fit for me, but I can appreciate the care and skill Amanda Brookfield brought to this novel.
Thank you to NetGalley and the Author for providing me with an ARC in exchange for my honest review.
Thank you NetGalley and publisher for this book!!
I LOVED this book! It was a bit slow in the beginning but then boom I was hooked!! I finished it in one sitting! My first by this author but will not be my last!!
My first Amanda Brookfield novel but definitely not my last. This book was a good deep slow burn. Fantastic pacing and characters. Stayed up way too late flipping pages. In-depth look at interpersonal relationships and they impact our lives. Great familial study.
Thank you NetGalley, Amanda Brookfield and Grand Central Publishing for the opportunity to read and review this book.
After the death of their dad and mum's reaction Anna and Becky move back to England. Coping with the loss of dad and their lives in France both girls cope in their own ways.
Anna is just moved to the country as her husband has retired but she still commutes to her radio broadcasting job in London.
Becky is the key administrator for a communication company and is supporting her husband's ambitions to own and run his own restaurant.
Busy lives, with pockets of issues some buried, others well hidden and some displayed for everyone to see.
Sisterly love at it's best and worst. Marriages that from the outside are seemingly perfect but are definitely not.
I enjoyed unraveling the sisters dynamics not just between them but with their husband's and each others husbands.
A multilayered story that will keep you intrigued to the last page.
Thanks Netgalley for allowing me to read this book. Anna has always been the peacemaker in the family. That all changes when she runs into some issues. I liked this book.
According to the bumf at the front of this book it was a rewrite of a book first written in 2002. It updated very well and on the whole I enjoyed it despite it being somewhat of a slow burn. As suggested by the title it deals with the relationships between two sisters, their husbands and to a lesser extent their mother and her husband.....their father. Although at first glance the relationships may seem quite convoluted in reality they're probably no more complex than the average family especially today. An easy, enjoyable read.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read an advance copy. All opinions are my own
This was an interesting story. Complicated family relationships and marriages in turmoil were the setting for this story about two sisters. I enjoyed learning about the undercurrents of both their lives. Finding out the truths they keep hidden from each other. Betrayals and infidelities are brought to light in a raw way.
It read like women’s fiction for me with a dash of romance too. I easily finished it in one sitting and will look for more from this author.
Sisters and Husbands introduces you to 2 sisters Anna and Rebecca and their husbands. Their mom Stella is also an important piece of the puzzle. Follows both sisters through difficult stages and lives, they have to overcome some challenges to get to their happy place at the end. Pregnancies, infidelity, growing pains are themes explored in this book.
Two sisters, lotys of drama and a bit of turmoil.
How wonderful this was to read. The relationship between the sisters was well portrayed as they each found support in each other while life dealt out blows and trauma.
It is a well deveoped plot wirh good characters and a lovely setting.
I can see this as a TV drama and the author is now one of my favs..
