Jack has loved Caroline since he was a teenager. She came from a completely different life than he did. He lived in shelters until his father died and he left town. A man found him by a dumpster, took him in and adopted him. Now 12 years later, his father has died, Jack decides that it is time to find Caroline. Caroline has lost almost everything. Her parents died, her little brother was incapacitated, and she was left to care for him. Her brother just died, and she is left in a big house with practically nothing. Jack is only too happy to help her out. He has big plans for them, all he has to do is get her on the same page. He doesn't know it, but a man he thought he put in prison is after him and will use Caroline to get to Jack. Can he save her?

I read this book so slow, so uncharacteristically slow for me. But, I guess, this is how you appreciate LMR's books, for they are written with care for the plot, for the characters, for the details. It's hot, it features mature characters and a mature kind of love story with her classical dose of elegance and danger.

Always a pleasure reading a book by her, no matter how many insta-loves I read, her style never fails to capture me so I'm grateful to have received this in order to share my view on it.

This book was intriguing. Jack (used to be Ben) was a soldier that sold his adopted father's company and went back to the town where Caroline Lake lived. He had known her when he was a child and at a homeless shelter and she came in to volunteer. He was enchanted with her and needed to see her again. He rented a room from her and discovered she had gone from wealthy to barely scraping by due to several tragedies. As a boy, he had snuck in her house many times and knew it well. He tried to cover up his knowledge, but she was a little suspicious. There was lots of hot sex and they had great chemistry. In the background, someone that Jack thought was in prison was hunting him and had no qualms at all about killing Caroline to hurt him. He was after something Jack took that he thought belonged to him. The ending was quite quick and left a few questions.

I got this book from Netgalley and am voluntarily leaving a review

I received an arc from NetGalley and this is my honest opinion.

I enjoyed the aspect of the history between the two main characters at the beginning however I felt it lacked some depth in the remainder. It also seemed unrealistic that she wouldn’t recognize Ben from years ago.

Oh Yuck. I thought this was going to be a juicy romance but instead it's a heaving romance. I didn't get past the first chapter.

Give me a stalkerish-always-wanted-you hero any and every day!!!

I absolutely loved Jack! Ms. Rice created him in such a way that he felt larger than life to me and was the type of hero that made me fall in love with alpha heroes in my younger years. His determination to help and protect Caroline had me oohing and ahhing pretty much at every turn of the page.

This was a great story. It is filled with danger, drama and enough steam to singe my fingertips when holding my ereader. I loved everything about it!

This was a really good and intense book. It has romance, steamy times, and suspense.
Caroline Lake has lost everyone in her family in recent years, the last being her brother, which has left her in financial trouble. She is also fairly lonely. Right before Christmas Jack Prescott shows up at her book store and wants to rent a room from her. The taxi driver told him she rents rooms to borders. She agrees because she needs the money and takes Jack home with her. They are pretty much snowed in together through Christmas and little did she know she would fall in love with this intense man in that time. The chemistry is very real which translates into some serious passion.
Jack’s past is quickly closing in and when Caroline returns to work soon after Christmas, she finds out he is not who he says he is when a man claiming to be an FBI agent shows up. She does however find out he is in fact someone she once knew.
I was not crazy about the ending but it is easy to draw conclusions about what happens next. I guess I just wish it was part of the book.

This is a reissue of Dangerous Lover. Knowing that, I was concerned that I might be distracted by trying to figure out what had been updated and if there was anything that I thought still needed some changes. I'm happy to say that I was not distracted and enjoyed the story very much. There was plenty of spice but also enough emotion and action to keep me interested. If you like alpha heroes beating the bad guys and getting the girl, you'll enjoy this book.

The Dangerous Trilogy book #1

Synopsis literally taken from Goodreads: Riddled with medical expenses after the death of her young brother, Caroline Lake desperately takes in boarder Jack Prescott, a seemingly down-on-his-luck stranger with a high-stakes past who awakens previously unexplored passions in Caroline.

My thoughts:

This story was so out of my comfort zone it wasn’t even funny…. Give me a story with a backbone something that will not only entertain but will keep me wanting more. This story was so boring rehashing the same things over and over again pages after pages of mediocre sex scenes and not much else.

I sum up the story as such

Lust, sex, sex, sex and a very poor story line.

Conclusion:

Since this book was given by the publisher, I felt obliged to read it to the end but my verdict is: Not worth the time.

This was a great book that will pull on your heartstrings at times. The characters were very relatable and you felt their pain. Ben is now grown up and he is finally meeting the one person that meant the world to him. He is finally finding a sense of peace and calm. This is what he has been waiting for and he will do anything to ensure that his future includes her. I was given an ARC through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

I struggled a bit with this character, the chemistry between the two was electric but It was somewhat odd almost stalker-ish the walking through her home when they were younger then later searching her out and never telling her . I very much enjoy Lisa Marie Rice's stories this one I just had a rougher time with .

A good novel, but personally the sex scenes were far too detailed and long. I confess to skimming through these passages and move on into the story proper. Jack and Caroline were total opposites, but then having thought of little else for twelve years, Jack wasn’t going to relinquish on his obsession and love for the young girl he had fallen for when he was a lost child. Deamer, more down to earth and committed to his quest, was a nasty piece of work. A game of cat and mouse follows with Saunders, Caroline’s previous boyfriend pursuing her and Deaver, a hostile military acquaintance of Jack’s trying to track him down. The author delivers an uncomplicated storyline with the ultimate finale which holds very little surprise.

My thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Loved reading the fabulous and awesome romance story. Ben has loved Caroline for years, and when he comes to town, Ben becomes Caroline's boarder, and introduces himself as Jack Prescott. Read the highly recommended, wonderfully written full of intrigue and mystery, and a must read riveting love story.

Loved this book! Loved the instant chemistry, loved Jack's character, and loved the little moments between them. I've never been a man in a uniform girlie, but Jack breaks the mold for big strong soldiers.
Fantastic use of wording change in the pov change from Jack to Caroline, you can really see their characters coming out even though the book isn't written in first person. I was very impressed by that.
Only issue I had was that the ending cut off pretty quickly, I wished there had been one or two more chapters of what happened in the future with their relationship.
The setting is Christmas, so it would make a great holiday read.

Netgalley ARC

I have read many of Rice’s books and my favourite is probably The Midnight Series.

Overall this book reminded me a bit of the first one in that series, The Midnight Man. The characters had a similar feel, i.e. the tough, military man, the helpless woman and the complete insta-love and sex, of course. That made it a bit mundane and over the top for me.

However, it did get better after the first 25% where the bad guy was introduced and a couple of other POVs appeared. I did find the ending a touch abrupt, but I actually didn’t mind it. Forced you to use a bit of your imagination.

Overall it was a good read and sits comfortably at 3 stars for me.

I love this author and I love the Midnight series. I remember reading Midninght man and falling in love. Here is another strong hero who knows how to love the woman of his dreams, and protect her to if necessary! All can be read as stand alones, but once you read one you will want to read them all!

I received a complimentary copy of this book from NetGalley. The opinions expressed in this review are completely my own. Thank you for allowing me to review

If you like steamy hot romance novels then you'll love reading, Dangerous Lover. It is chock full of sex scenes that left me smiling for Jack and Caroline. You could call it a Christmas novel also. Not the traditional type though. Christmas day is there, just shared between two lovers and remembering past Christmas's.

“Dangerous Lover” is by Lisa Marie Rice. This book originally came out in 2007 (or so) per Goodreads, but parts have been updated to reflect current (2024) world events. This book is not what I would call erotic - more explicit “sexy time,” but that’s my take. I found the two main characters okay - Caroline is lovely and gorgeous and unaware of her stunning good looks. Jack is handsome and manly and a (pun intended) jack of a lot of trades - including a military man. The two bad guys are - well, bad. There’s not a lot of depth to any of the characters, but that doesn’t mean it was a bad read. The ending was … well, an ending (and by that I mean the story literally just ends). If you want a book with a bit of dark brooding mystery, some “sexy time” (okay, a lot more than “some”), and a fast moving story - this might be one you want to grab.

Incredibly clueless and naive damsel in distress, hard to belive she can manage to take care of herself - enter tall, dangerous, muscled, man who appears down on his luck - ta da, she rents him a room, gives him her car keys, and panics over every little thing like a helpless child. Yes he is the homeless boy she was nice to years back, and he has always loved her. Many editing issues and storyline inconsistencies make it difficult to navigate anyway.
