I love a full cast on an audio production and this cast is terrific. There are quite a few characters, but with different voice actors they are easy to keep straight. The story gets pretty far fetched with its citizen’s gone rogue and revenge tropes, but it’s definitely entertaining.

Thank you to @macmillan.audio for an ALC of The Business Trip.

Thanks to NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for the advanced audio book.

The twists and turns that this book took were totally unexpected and kept me on the edge of my seat, which is a difficult task these days given how many mystery/thrillers are out there. The characters were compelling and the plot was fun and exciting, and I loved that it was a full cast of narrators.

3.75 stars

The full cast on this was excellent, and it was a solid 4 until the very end. There was one aspect of the ending that unfortunately lost me just a little bit. Still, for a debut thriller, this is largely a good one. I really enjoyed the various perspectives and how the story unfolded.

This book is full of twists! I thought this story was going in one direction but it went in a different direction. Several times. I really enjoyed it. With the exception of Trent. He was such an awful character but we aren’t meant to like him. I do think he was a little overdone tho.

I don’t want to put any spoilers but there’s so much I wish I could say, for that reason I think this would make for a great buddy read or book club selection because there’s so many things you can talk about with it.

There’s female rage, classism, sexism, racism. A lot to unpack.

I powered through this one quickly because it was so hard to put down.

I also think the narration was well done. I like that it was a full cast and different POV and the narrators were great. I even think the Trent character was done well because he was grating and I could tell the narrator stepped up his acting to allow you to not like even his voice. (Not bad to listen to but just so unlikeable)

The Business Trip by Jessie Garcia is a fast paced read that will keep guessing up until the very last page of the book. Jasmine is in an abusive relationship and a dead end job. Jasmine wants to start over in a new town more than anything. Stephanie is heading to San Diego for a work conference and meets Jasmine on the plane. The two women makes small talk on the plane and Jasmine decides to change her plans from going to Denver and head to San Diego instead. Can Jasmine go through with her plan and if she does will she be able to start fresh with no baggae. While at the conferenace Stephanie meets Trent McCarthy, thinks he is Gods gift to women. Trent is soon connected with Stephanie and Jasmine when they both turn up missing and evidence is found at Trent's house. I can't wait to read Jessie Garcia's next book! I would like to thank both NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for letting me have an advanced copy of this audio book.

Jasmine and Stephanie meet on a long flight. Jasmine is fleeing an abusive relationship, and Stephanie is going to yet another conference for her television newsroom. Although they are far apart on the socioeconomic ladder, they find common ground.

A few days after the flight, they both disappear after apparently meeting the same man. Both are in contact with friends and business associates through texts, but as the texts become more alarming, the fate of the two women comes into question. Who is this mystery man, and what has happened to the two women?

╰┈➤˗ˏˋ A riveting thriller about two women, strangers on the same plane, disappear after sending texts to their friends about the same man. Did the man do something to them? Or did they do something to him?

Told from multiple POVs and numerous text messages, it is quickly apparent that everything is not as it should be. We are led down a winding path of clues as more is revealed about the two women and the mystery man. I was sucked into the story at the beginning as I tried to figure out what was happening.

˚ ༘✶ ⋆。˚ ⁀➷ I'm going to be very honest. This starts to get a bit far fetched the further you go into the story, but if you enjoyed The Mindfuck series and didn't bat an eyelash - I think you'll be able to suspend enough disbelief to enjoy this one also.

Part of the enjoyment of reading is sometimes believing things that might not necessarily happen once you really start breaking them down. And I'm extra impressed due to it being a debut. The author really pulled me in and held me captive.

The characters aren't exactly very likable but I found myself rooting for them anyway. The pacing was great and I demolished this in two sittings.

˚ ༘✶ ⋆。˚ ⁀➷ Gripping, exciting and filled with twists and turns! I do think fans of Freida will enjoy this one.

The audio was fantastic!

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC.
Finished this in one sitting as I couldn’t turn it off. The beginning was a little confusing with the multiple characters and timelines. However everything started falling right into place quickly. Jasmine and Stephanie take us on quite the ride in this audiobook. You will be confused and then baffled. Great book. Great narration! Well done !

So messy and thrilling. You truly didn’t know what would happen next. It’s been awhile since I’ve felt completely on the edge of my seat from a thriller.
Loved the full cast of narrators.

The Business Trip
By Jesse Garcia
Narrated by Andrew Eiden; Dylan Fitzpatrick; Fred Berman; Gail Shalan; Hillary Huber; Jennifer Pickens; John Pirhalla; Kimberly M. Wetherell; Kirby Heyborne; Tim Campbell
3.5 ⭐️

For this book, the lead up was better for me than the reveals. The twists were clever and interesting enough, but how they were delivered wasn’t my favorite. The audiobook was stellar with each POV getting its own narrator. Neal was my least fav POV (clearly) but the narrator for him was my favorite.

Thank you to NetGalley, Jesse Garcia, and Macmillian Audio for this audiobook ARC.

Clever premise, overexplained.

Two women find themselves next to each other on a flight - Stephanie on a business trip, Jasmine on the run from an abusive relationship. Days later, their respective acquaintances start receiving similar text messages about a man they both met. But suspicions soon arise whether the women really were the ones writing these messages. What really happened on the business trip - and where are Jasmine and Stephanie?

The premise of this book was quite clever, and I was intrigued by the setup. The plot also went in a completely different direction than I initially thought it would, which was delightful - sure, the actual twist was way over the top, but in a dark, twisted way, and I didn‘t mind the suspension of disbelief needed to get there.

That being said, the second part of the book started to become very repetitive - while we learn what really happened, from a different point of view, things are repeated unnecessarily, text messages sometimes even more than once, and it got a bit tedious. The author did not seem to have a lot of faith in the readers making connections themselves, as everything was explained to death. I would have preferred a longer mystery and a quicker wrapping up of the whodunnit.

This was a debut that showed a lot of promise though, so I‘d gladly read the author‘s next book.

I listened to the audiobook version, and thought the cast did a wonderful job of portraying the many different, often horrible characters.

TW: sexual assault, domestic violence.

Many thanks to NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.

„The Business Trip“ is slated to be released on January 14, 2025.

This was a quick-paced thriller with a really intriguing concept. I listened to the audiobook all in one day! However, I struggled with the many side characters narrating their own chapters, which made it hard to keep track of the plot and who was speaking. There were some surprising twists, especially that ending reveal, but some parts seemed a little unrealistic and far-fetched. Overall, the book was just okay for me. On a positive note, the narrators did and amazing job.

Thank You NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for allowing me to review this audiobook.

This was a quick and easily consumable read for me. I enjoyed the multi POV structure of the story, and felt like it made it feel really fast-paced with lots of twists.
This was a solid 4 star read for me, and I definitely recommend it to others!

The Business Trip grabbed my attention immediately and then it took a very unexpected turn. As you finally are given enough info to know what has happened you are once again hit with a total surprise. I could not stop listening to this book and the epilogue was just an added bonus.

The writing style did not work for me. I'm sure other readers might click with it more. There was too much info dumping and telling not showing going on and so the flow felt off and I couldn't get into it and had to DNF. The audio was good though.

Not the typical domestic thriller! A unique approach of weaving the story together, which kept me listening- and I completed this book in one sitting! It was definitely a refreshing read. My rating however was affected by 1. The initial story presented 2 women, but unfortunately focused on the less interesting, less likable one., 2. I was not fond of the twist revealed at the end. Thank you to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for this opportunity!

Wow, an ending I didn't see coming. Enjoyed every word and it was a one-listen go. Great narration and good story line. Loved it!

I listened to this in a day- it was THAT intriguing and kept me on the edge of my seat. I HAD to know what was going on, and it got messier and messier the more I listened. I can say that I had NO clue what was coming, and this is one of the best thrillers I've read recently. The narrators were awesome (there were a lot!) and every chapter ended leaving me no option but to keep going. Towards the end I had to kind of rack my brain with what was going on, but it was brilliant! 5 stars all the way!

Two women on one plane, they are as different as chalk and cheese, but they both texting their friends the same things about the same man. When both women vanish, their disappearances raise red flags, and ring alarm bells. Who is the man they were riding about and did he have something to do with what happened to them? Pacey Pacey, and hard to put down

The beginning was slow but then it picked up and got twisty and fun. The twist were so good especially the one at the end. This is a fantastic heart-throbbing page-turner that you shouldn’t miss!
