This book is fun of funny poems full of puns. Kids that understand the puns will very much enjoy this book. The book also includes explanations of the puns told throughout the book for the readers that did not catch all the intended humor. Well don!

This is a cute book of pun filled poems. The illustrations are cute. I liked the glossary of puns at the back of the book. I would definitely pick and choose which poems to read to children. Some of these poems I really liked, some were just okay, and then some were not it for me. A few had a weird rhythm to them when I was reading them, causing me to pause and go back. Poetry does need to have a certain flow when read. My other negative is that some of these poems are a little to close to existing pieces - like the Humpty Dumpty one was exactly like the meme about him having a great fall and the illustration even looked like the meme image.
Thanks to NetGalley for letting me read this book.

This book is full of nursery rhymes and poems that are very punny. Each word has something that is a pun that may go over kids heads without some explanation. The book was fun, but by the end it you were happy to see the last page.

Torrible Puns is a fun book that is not just for kids. The puns all employ clever turns of phrase. For example, if you are waiting a long time for your server, which one of you is truly the “waiter”. None of the rhymes seem forced like they are in many children’s books. The illustrations are colorful and reinforce the stories told within the poems. Overall, if you like clever wordplay, Torrible Puns is a great choice. 4 stars!
Thanks to NetGalley and Gnome Road Publishing for providing me with an advanced review copy.

My children love punny jokes and this book was a perfect fit for them. The poems were silly and thought provoking. You can't take the poems seriously without smiling at the puns. The darling illustrations by Robert Dunn were the perfect accompaniment for the funny text provided by Tricia Torrible. I can see this being a widely popular book when it gets published Mid-March. I know it would be a perfect fit for school libraries and classrooms.
Thank you to NetGalley and Gnome Road Publishing for providing me an ARC. I needed a smile today.

Pick a picture book of poetic puns and laugh your sox off as you share with others. These are funny even when you only read them over the phone, but absolutely hilarious in print with the corresponding fun illustrations!
The illustrations by Robert Dunn are brightly colorful, and just too much FUN!
Well suited for reading WITH someone any age from 5 and up including ESL, and great for gifting to everyone, but especially to a school or your local public library!

WOW!!! This book was AMAZING!! I’m an elementary school teacher, so I have read hundreds of children’s books.. but this one really takes the cake! Tricia is so talented and creative.
Thank you NetGalley for an ARC. I cannot wait to purchase a copy to use in my classroom and to read to my boys at home.

What a great collection of funny poetry for children. It was a fun read and I can't wait to read it with my kids, they'll love the humor!

An absolutely adorable book full of funny and punny poems perfect for kids. Unlike many other poem anthology for kids I have seen it does not rely on "potty humor" which makes this a winner for me. I could easily recommend this to any family and not have to worry about bad feedback. I hope that this author continues to put out more of these wonderful books. We need a new go to Poems for kids author.

This book is super cute! The puns inside are of different lengths. Some are short and can be read and understood quickly, while others take a minute to figure out. This is actually a great book for kids to peruse through and ponder. I would recommend for ages 7-11. My kids that are in that age range love puns. And in the end of the book it has a pun dictionary of sorts which my kids found great!
The drawings in this book are very adorable and appeal to kids. It’s a cute book to read or flip through to look at the pictures for the younger kids.
Thank you Gnome Road Publishing for an advanced reading of this book through NetGalley. All opinions are my own.

What a clever, funny and creative children's book; even the title is a pun!
This is a perfect introduction to both poetry and puns for young readers. The illustrations by Robert Dunne are beautiful and add to the enjoyment.
I also love that the author explains each pun at the back of the book to help children understand and explore the multiple meanings of words and phrases.
Guaranteed to make readers of all ages smile, groan, or laugh out loud!
My thanks to Gnome Road Publishing for letting me access a DRC of the book via NetGalley. Publication is 3/18/25. All opinions expressed in this review are my own and are freely given.

Torrible Puns is a fun filled collection of the wonderful usage of language presented in a way that expands the vernacular, while encouraging exploration of the diversity of so many of the words that sound similar, but have vastly different meanings, which populate with abandon, the English language.
Tricia Torrible takes everyday events such as a game of golf, dratted Homework, a tea party for Teddy and even the Moon, creating some very, very funny rhyming poems that will provoke some serious laughter.
Rhyming words, words with double meaning and even groan-worthy, punch lines make up thirty poems, some long, others of only a few words, which will entertain and delight with their many meanings.
Puns were once commonplace amongst children and adults, frequently being made up on the spur of moment, before the modern age of internet took away the gift of conversation and the colourful vocabulary that made up slang, reflecting the culture of the country with the informal use of language.
It is an absolute delight to see that in the funny, laugh out loud collection of Torrible Puns, there could be a revolution beginning, as puns tend to be catching and any young person who reads this book will definitely have to share the many poems with their friends.
P.S. Adults will enjoy it as well, so look out Kids, make sure you hide it from Mum and Dad.

I received an electronic ARC from Gnome Road Publishing through NetGalley.
An amusing series of poems that show readers how fun puns can be. They range for four lines to several stanzas so model a variety of poetry types. I appreciate the author sharing an explanation of each pun at the end of the book. Younger readers can use that as a guide to learn and then reread to see how it fits together. A terrific book for elementary school libraries.

Torrible Puns: A Collection of Punny Poems by Tricia Torrible is a hilarious, lighthearted read that will have you groaning and giggling at the same time. This collection of pun-filled poems is a delightful romp through clever wordplay, with each poem featuring witty, often absurd, puns that will leave you both entertained and slightly amused by how far the author stretches the English language. The playful illustrations by Robert Dunn perfectly complement the puns, adding to the fun and charm of the book. If you're a fan of puns, this book is guaranteed to bring a smile to your face. Whether you're looking to share a laugh or simply enjoy some quirky poetry, Torrible Puns is a perfect choice for light, pun-filled fun.

I loved this book just as much as I thought I would. I giggled several times. I also love how it described why the puns were punny in the back of the book. This would be great for a lesson on multiple meaning words.

A fun book for kids with tons of great puns. I love the illustrations and the puns are well thought out. Some are harder than others, but it’s a great teaching experience to learn to decipher them. One of the puns my student used on me a couple weeks ago. It was awesome to see it included in this book.

This book is just perfect. The poems all feature brilliant metrics, comical content and hilarious puns. And the illustrations in the book are just so adorable and colourful. This is the perfect book for children. Will surely buy multiple copies when it is out to be given out as presents to my students.

I actually really liked this book! There was one thing I liked about this book and one thing that didn't work so well.
What worked: there is a *valid* pun in every single poem in this book. This is highly impressive due to the amount of poems in this entire book. I'll admit: at first there were some poems where I thought that there was a stretch. Additionally, I figured that the target audience or this book wouldn't get quite a few of the puns. HOWEVER! There was a short explanation on *each poem* that tells readers where the pun is and why it makes sense. This was such a smart idea! This added element adds some educational value to this book for little ones, in case they don't understand the expressions or words used in the poems. Bravo for that!
What didn't work: this book is awfully repetitive. However, this is a small issue because I truly believe that little ones will be entertained with this *entire* book, and will likely disregard the repetition. That being said, I still thought I would mention it, as it was at the forefront of my mind as I read.

I wanted to love this poetry collection, but so found it to be far more eye rolls than giggles. Some poems are stronger than others. Many, I felt, were strong, but undermined by the final pun, which is sadly the USP of this collection. I’m also struggling to place the intended audience for this book, as I don’t know how many adults would enjoy it, but many of the puns would need explaining to younger kids, pulling attention away from the rhythm and flow of the poems themselves. I felt this had untapped potential, and may have functioned better simply as a poetry book rather than centred around the puns.

I was so disappointed when I realized there were no more poems. There's nothing terrible about these puns -- every poem is clever and well-thought-out. The rhyme and rhythm were also very well done, and I was practicing each poem to see how it would sound. This would be such a fun resource for kids to learn how to perform out loud and memorize short works. Between the words and the whimsical illustrations, I found myself smiling the whole way through. Thanks to NetGalley for letting me read this
