Game On was a very straightforward and scorching hot novella. The characters were likeable and I truly wanted to see them be together at the end. Trent O’Shea is a very popular and sexy professional football player that loves his job but hates the unwanted attention a star athlete attracts and the fact that he can’t really trust the intentions of the people that he meets. Laurel Burnett is a private investigator that is smart, committed, and very good at her job. They cross paths when Laurel is hired by an expectant mother who is sure that Trent impregnated her and is now avoiding her. Although Trent has escaped to an exclusive Florida resort, Laurel tracks him down to confront him about taking responsibility for his future child. She soon figures out that Trent may not be the baby’s daddy and then proceeds to seduce him to fulfill her own desires. Consequently, they end up bringing their own heat to the pool before getting between the sheets.

Of course, there is never an easy path to a happy ending. Trent overhears a conversation that makes him question Laurel’s motives and immediately sends her packing. Laurel makes it a point to find Trent later and explains everything and makes it possible for them to have a future together. Since it is a novella, I will have to forgive the swift conflict resolution. I can also appreciate the premise because it’s a legitimate modern-day issue concerning mistaken identity. My only issue is that a quick internet search by the alleged baby mama would have changed everything.
