The Before Now and After Then was a fantastic book that focused on real life situations. Books like this can help teen navigate through this crazy world and not feel so alone. As much as I couldn't relate to the story, I know there are readers out there that can. It is nice to see this issue out in the open a little more.
I loved this YA coming of age story.
Danny and Sam are twins, emotionally close to each other but polar opposites in personality. Sam is younger by a few minutes but protects Danny from the bullying he endures at the hands of schoolmates, all because he’s gay,
Danny’s plan to come out to their parents coincides with a family tragedy and Danny soon finds himself living alone with his mother and taking on the challenge of starting at a new school without Sam to protect him. He starts to make new friends and begins to explore his sexuality with the confidence of being himself.
These days YA books focusing on sexuality are more common than they used to be, but I feel like this is still a classic of the genre. It’s a sweet book that deals with serious life issues very well, plus the use of music as a reference throughout is wonderful. Thank you so much for the chance to read this book.
