“ Three best friends. Three women who will do anything for each other. Including killing their horrible husbands.”

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (4/5)
Pub Date: 1/22/2025

Penny, Holly, and Lisa have been best friends since they were seven years old. They tell each other everything…. Well almost everything.

Penny hasn’t told her friends about her husband changing their life insurance policy. Holly hasn’t told her friends about her gambling addicted husband who may be a killer. Lisa hasn’t told her friends about her abusive husband, and a secret she’s been carrying for 14 years.

They reunite for a weekend at Penny, and once the drinks flow, their secrets are revealed. As it turns out, they all have horrible husbands. They’ve put up with them long enough, it’s time to put an end to things…permanently.

It seemed like such a good idea at the time, to kill their lying, cheating, murderous spouses, but now what’s going to happen . . . ?

THIS BOOK WAS BATSHIT CRAZY AND I LOVED IT! Definitely a popcorn thriller and something you could read in a day or two.

The book was told in three POVs (yes!!) and multimedia timelines, current day and periods of significance from their lives. We didn’t get a whole lot of background on the husbands, and could’ve gotten a little more background on the friend group.

Could this book happen in real life? Probably not, but it was a wild ride. A lot of the twists (SO MANY TWISTS) were predictable, but again that’s what made this book absolutely bonkers.

If you’re in a book rut, this would be a good one to pickup!

Thank you to Joffe Books and Jessica Huntley for a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

Penny. Holly and Lisa have been best friends since childhood. On a girls weekend away, they reveal their husbands dark secrets. They then start plotting to kill them.

The story is told from Penny, Holly and Lisa's perspectives. Throughout the story, we learn of the women's desires, their day to day lives, and the horrible husbands they are married to. The story is quite dark, but there is some humour too. There were some good twists along the way, and the characters are well-developed. I was quickly pulled into this book, and I enjoyed every minute of it.

This novel reminded me of the comedy, Horrible Bosses where each of the four men attempt to rid the world of unjust practices by killing their bosses. It begins with Lisa--one of the four women--when she is 14 and raped in a park, left and finally found and saved. Now as an adult, she has three friends who all are suffering in their marriages and decide to band together to do something about it. And when Leanne--a local hairdresser they know--is found floating dead in the river, they decide to take matters in their own hands and do something sinister to rid the world of these men. It's a crazy, twisted, convoluted story of women taking back their power as they band together to rid the world of these men who wreak havoc on all they know!
Thanks to NetGalley for this ARC!

Such a good book, there were some graphic scenes and abuse, which just made the story more touching with the outcome. I do think it was well written, and flowed well. I liked the phsychological thrill to all of it too. It was great!

Thank you to NetGalley, to the author, and to the publisher for this complimentary ARC in exchange for my honest review!!!

The plot of this book made me think about that quote about which friend you'd call at 2am to help you hide the body and they'd respond like it was just a normal request.

Really enjoyed this book about three wives who find themselves needing their friends more than ever to help them out of the mad situations they'd found themselves in their marriages. Didn't see the plot twist at the end, felt slightly OTT, but then then it fits in perfectly with the style of the book so I just went with it.

Thanks to Netgalley for the opportunity to review this book, this is my honest opinion.

WOW! Let's just say this book took a totally different direction than I thought.
It is a fast paced, action filled, eventful story with tons of twists and turns and an ending I never saw coming.
Three best friends meet up for a weekend together after three years without seeing each other. Each of the women is dealing with issues within their marriages, and upon venting to the friends, they form a plot to kill two of the three husbands.
But, things change fast and unpredictably and all their plans fall into disarray.
Could not put this down once I started. For any who love a great thriller, I highly recommend.
I will state that there are some topics dealt with that may be triggers for some, so read the description carefully.
I received an advance copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

This was a fantastic psychological suspense novel, it had that element that I was looking for from the description. Jessica Huntley wrote this perfectly in the genre and was engaged with what was going on. I was hooked from the first page and enjoyed the way the characters worked in this universe.

A dark thriller about murder, friendship and marriage. Written from three points of view, there were a few unexpected twists. However, the friendship between the women did not seem authentic and the husband's a bit cardboard cut out. A light read for a dull afternoon.

I really tried to get through this book. Unfortunately, it wasn’t for me. From the opening section that describes a brutal rape to one guy wanting to cum on his wife’s face to the women lying all the time, I just couldn’t do it. One thing’s for sure: this book makes it clear why getting married is a terrible idea.

** spoiler alert ** 3 stars. Another new to me author. Horrible Husbands started out good for me. 3 best friends since second grade, Lisa, Penny, and Holly speak daily via WhatsApp as they live very far apart in the UK. It's been a few years since they've all met up and in that time, life has happened and all 3 women are wrestling with their own demons. The book is broken down into 3 POVs of the main characters and once again by present and 15 years ago. Eventually they do all meet up at Penny's for a girl's weekend. I can't say much about what happens as that will give the whole book away. I felt from the mid point of the book onward, things got very unbelievable. I do realize it's fiction, but some things were just unfathomable. When we get near the end, I literally had to reread 3 chapters because I thought I missed something. It was like the earth tilted and I was lost somewhere. For me, the ending takes off major stars as it was totally ridiculous and didn't end up answering the questions from the book.

Thank you to Netgalley and Joffee Books for the ARC. I greatly appreciate it. This book has been getting good reviews so I will recommend it. I think it's just a matter of personal taste.

Horrible Husbands by Jessica Huntley follows the stories of 3 lifelong best friends (Holly, Lisa, and Penny) as they navigate and ultimately try to escape less than ideal marriages.

I loved the 1st person and shifting POVs, particularly in the first several chapters. The characters were well-developed, and their different personalities were obvious from the first chapters. You can feel their different brands of suffering and feel for all of them.

That being said, I guessed all but one of the twists. The final twist (for me) was a little out of left field as the others had been hinted at along the way.

It was a quick and easy read, and I finished it in one sitting.

I enjoyed the first third of this book, with interesting background to the three best friends and what their lives were like. That part was plausible, with life getting in the way of them meeting up and with each keeping secrets from their friends about what was happening in their marriages. However, once the girls met up, the story just became ridiculous after something I thought was going to be a comment made in jest, became the premise for the rest of the book. I found it hard to keep reading the more implausible events got, with seemingly no consequences for the characters. The twist at the end wasn't as surprising as it could have been as there were a few clues along the way so it wasn't a twist that made me gasp. I didn't find the book much of a thriller and definitely not a psychological one.
I'd give it 2.5 stars for the first part.

These three women are the best of friends since childhood. The bond they have can get them through anything, or pretty close to anything. Planning a girls weekend sounds like a dream come true, but each of these women has her own secrets. It is time to come clean and tell each other everything. When you only trust your besties, and even they are keeping secrets, who can you trust? Will their bond make it through three Horrible Husbands? Stick around and find out.

If you've never wondered how far you'd go for your best friends, this book will have you figuring that out! I enjoyed the characters and plot which was pretty twisty but felt like the ending was a little flat. I wasn't disappointed, just was more like "well I guess that's the end then...."
