I've enjoyed everyone of Baldwin's books and Taken by Storm didn't disappoint. This is a great action/adventure/thriller that pits the main characters against nature in a struggle for survival. Baldwin writes great "outdoors" type novels and in this one, the setting is the Alps where an avalanche derails and strands a train comes alive and she plops you right int he middle of this harsh environment and you end up biting your nails as the tension ratchets up.
Baldwin paces the story well, taking the time and making the effort to develop well rounded and believable characters (no cookie cutter stereotypes,) and building up the tension and suspense with the avalanche, aftermath and the struggle to try to find help. She deftly weaves enough information and detail into the story that the reader is able to fully immerse into the storyline and there's no info-dumps or awkward expositions to distract or annoy.
The two main characters, Hudson and Steffi, and their burgeoning romance doesn't feel forced or contrived. Both characters are strong capable women and the situation and setting allows more show than tell. There's an obvious chemistry which gets an extra boost due to the dire circumstances that they are in.
An excellent adventure story that I strongly recommend.
