I listened to the audiobook and the narrator was amazing- she transitions between accents perfectly! The storyline was lighthearted, fluffy and fun- like a Lifetime move in book form. Highly recommend!

Snow Going Back, by Emma Tallon, tells the story of Kate Hunter, corporate lawyer for a British firm with offices in Boston. Immediately following the abrupt proposal of her boyfriend Lance, Kate Hunter receives an urgent call from her boss with the news that an important American client has passed away and it is imperative that Kate, as the attorney on record, arrive to the small New England town right away, take up residence in the deceased’s (Cora) home, and sort through the contents and determine the proper heirs.

As Kate never intended to agree to marriage, only was saying yes to the calling of her name when friends and family surrounded them, a ring slid upon her finger, and panic struck her soul, an excuse to leave immediately and spend six weeks in America seems to be divine intervention. However, when she arrives in the small Vermont town and takes up residence in Cora’s home there’s a whole new set of troubles to deal with.

Claims of being the rightful heir by a niece, who’s a piece of work, a deceitful brother-in-law, and no claims made by the one most worthy keep Kate on her toes. It is a lot to sort through in a short period of time while planning an unwanted wedding from across the ocean.

As the story develops and the characters show their true hearts, Kate finds missing information and new opportunities as she untangles Cora’s true final requests. This is a lovely story dealing with some serious topics with humor and heart. I did enjoy this book and I do recommend it!

Oh how I wanted to love this one but I just couldn't get past so many things. It was very hard to stay attentive to it, the sentences just didn't work, the storyline did not keep my interest. The characters were highly unrealistic and I could not connect with them. I had to DNF this one.

Snow Going Back was the perfect cozy Christmas read I needed on a hot weekend! It's like the mature, more sophisticated version of the typical Hallmark movie.
Kate is a lawyer who values her independence, even though her overbearing mother is always in the picture. When her boyfriend Lance proposes—by accident, it seems—she's desperate to escape. Her chance comes with an urgent request from her firm's Boston office, which sends her to Vermont for at least six weeks. While there, she’s tasked with settling a will that involves determining the distribution of assets based on the lives of those affected, all while staying in the deceased owner’s house. What follows is an unexpected meet-cute and a delightful enemies-to-lovers romance. I absolutely adored Sam, the charming male lead, and the chemistry between him and Kate was full of sparks and fun moments. While the main romance takes center stage, the quirky side characters added depth to the story.
If you're looking to sip mulled wine and embrace the Christmas spirit, or just pretend you are, this book is for you!

When Kate's boyfriend Lance proposes, she is completely shocked (what 35 year old woman wouldn't be absolutely caught off guard by a man proposing?). Let's put a pin in that for a second because Kate is a lawyer, who works in both the US and London. One of her firms' clients in Vermont wrote the most ridiculous will ever, leaving it up to the law firm to decide who would inherit the family business.

Now, it's totally fine and wonderful that 35 year old Kate doesn't want to get married or have kids, but she might have mentioned that to her serious boyfriend sooner. Apparently, it just never came up or occurred to her. Granted, Lance does make a lot of assumptions as well, like that she would want to move to the country and have babies and quit working. So clearly, these two don't communicate well. But they decide to get married in just a mere 9 weeks, while Kate plans to spent 7 of those avoiding him/fulfilling the world's most ridiculous will.

In the States, she is living with the nephew of the deceased client who happens to be a charming lumberjack of a man. After some initial missteps they start to become something more than friends. There are some pranks, some insane family members vying for inheritance, and an overbearing mother to boot.

This book was just a lot of the main character not realizing how to speak up for herself and hurting everyone else a lot the way. It had moments of charm, but overall, I was underwhelmed. I appreciate the ARC.

Kate had an unexpected proposal from her boyfriend Lance in front of her family. He mistakenly took her surprise yes and a yes and she felt she couldn’t get out of it. A quick wedding is being planned by Kate’s mother to be on New Years Eve. Kate was sent to the US to stay there while sorting out a will of a client of theirs and determining who is going to get what assets. While in the US she has to stay in the home of said client and finds out that Sam is already living there. The banter between Kate and Sam was great. I enjoyed where the story went, although I feel like feelings changed at a drop of a hat, or should I say kettle. This was a clean, emotional romance with no spice. I appreciated that there was no physical cheating the occurred. The characters were charming, and I loved the small-town vibes and the enemies to lovers troupe. I listened to the audiobook and loved that narrator.

Snow Going Back by Emma Tallon is a unique holiday romance packed with humor, sparks, and a dash of chaos! Set in a charming small town in Vermont during the holidays, this story combines an irresistible mix of banter, drama, and heartwarming moments.

The plot centers around a Brit and an American who, despite their clashing personalities, find themselves in forced proximity due to work. The instant enemies-to-housemates-to-lovers trope is executed brilliantly, with laugh-out-loud moments! As the story evolved the characters turned to advice from old diary entries, adding a poignant layer to the story.

Tallon’s writing shines with clever banter, heartfelt emotion, and an unforgettable setting. The snowy Vermont backdrop enhances the festive atmosphere, while the protagonists’ fiery chemistry keeps you hooked. If you’re looking for a holiday read that’s refreshingly different, Snow Going Back is a must-read!

3.5 ⭐️ rounded up. This was a fun read. Kate accidentally accept a marriage proposal from her boyfriend and before she can set the record straight, she uses a work trip to escape her problems. That’s when she meets Sam and their first interaction had me laughing out loud. Sam and Kate had great banter, and grew close through friendship. However, she does begin to fall for Sam before she finally breaks things off with her fiancé. I did enjoy the MC’s self growth throughout the book. She learned what she wanted in life and how to stand up for herself. Overall, this was a cute read and I enjoyed it.

Read if you enjoy:
✔️Enemies to lovers
✔️Forced proximity
✔️Single POV
✔️Opposites attract

This book caught me off guard (in a good way). At first, I thought I wasn't going to like it. In the beginning most of the characters acted jerks, and Kate was passively just going along with whatever was happening around her. BUT I kept reading. It turns out that all of this was just the setup for so much character growth as the story goes along, and most of the jerk-ish behavior was completely understandable once you got to know the characters and what they were going through. It was such a charming book, and I loved the backstories and growth that we got to see as the story unfolded. My one critique is that I wish I could have wanted to root for them sooner. I had to push through for a bit before I actually liked them, but once I did I was completely hooked.

Overall it's a very cute Christmas read!

Emma Tallon’s Snow Going Back offers a festive, heart-warming escape perfect for the holiday season. Packed with humour, a dash of romance, and a cast of memorable characters, this story had me hooked from the start.

Kate’s life takes a chaotic turn when her boyfriend Lance proposes in front of her family and friends—a spectacle that leaves her feeling cornered. Her reluctant “yes” sets the stage for a whirlwind wedding just weeks away. However, an unexpected work trip to Boston provides her with the perfect excuse to step back and reevaluate.

Boston’s wintry charm quickly draws Kate in, but her stay becomes far more complicated when she meets Sam, the brooding yet ruggedly handsome relative of the late homeowner. Thanks to a mix-up, the two are forced to share the house—and their clashing personalities lead to hilariously entertaining moments. From Sam drinking all the milk to Kate interrupting his precious “game nights,” the pair’s bickering feels authentic and comically relatable. Yet, beneath their animosity, a slow-brewing connection begins to take shape.

As Kate wrestles with her feelings for Sam and the weight of her impending wedding, the story balances heartfelt moments with laugh-out-loud situations. I particularly loved the vibrant supporting cast—especially Kate’s mother, whose over-the-top wedding preparations never fail to amuse. Kate’s journey of self-discovery is handled with sensitivity, making the conclusion all the more satisfying.

The Narration:

The audiobook, narrated by Hayden Bishop, is a treat in itself. Her ability to seamlessly shift between British and American accents, and bring both male and female characters to life, added depth to the story. She captured the characters’ personalities so vividly that it felt like I was watching a film unfold in my mind.

Final Thoughts:

If you’re looking for a lighthearted yet touching holiday read, Snow Going Back is an excellent choice. For maximum enjoyment, I highly recommend the audiobook version—it’s an absolute delight!

I received an ARC of this audiobook from the publisher but the thoughts and opinions expressed here are my own.

A fun enemies-to-lovers Christmas rom com that will have you cringing, giggling, tearing up and then laughing out loud! Kate is a people pleaser who is hard working, intelligent and has lost herself along the way. When she accidentally ends up engaged and feels like she is on a speeding train about to crash, work throws her a lifeline by sending her to the states to untangle a complicated will situation. Crash landing her into Sam's life and space. The house wars, will wars and emotional wars will have you laughing and crying with delight. The narrator does an outstanding job of bringing to life the characters, in particular Kate, and the emotions surrounding the events in the book. The question of whether Kate will make the correct decision in deciding the will as well as the rest of her life? The laughter will outweigh the tears, but you will need a tissue or two handy for this one!

The set up for this story had me hooked. And feel it is a talent to be able to write some truly loathsome characters (namely her mother). And her fiancé who has some fairly antiquated views on marriage and motherhood.

“That wouldn’t be a very stable environment Kate…Children need their mother to be a constant.”

It’s not all about you, Catherine.

Thought it was an interesting choice to have an English character but an American narrator. Whilst the story was entertaining, found the listening experience was a bit stilted due to the accents. Enemies to lovers trope is a classic tripe, and found those aspects of the story early on be fun, I didn’t really feel much chemistry between these two.

“utterly crazy for you in fact. Despite all my best attempts not to be”

Whilst there were aspects of this story that engaged me, it just wasn’t my cup of tea.

Thanks to NetGalley, the publisher, and the author for an eARC in exchange for my honest review.

I really enjoyed this one!! So many LOL moments and I loved the banter, this one hit all my spots for a romance. The main character, Kate, was so relatable and I loved Sam! They really were some of my favorite holiday romance characters ever.

Kate unexpectedly gets proposed to by her boyfriend and decides to “run away” by having her job fly her out to Vermont for a client.

In hopes of escaping the upcoming nuptials she never actually said “yes” to, she ends up meeting Sam, in an unlikely way.

It’s an enemies to lovers premise and while it was a quick listen, it was an ok book. Not necessarily my favorite holiday romance, but also one I’d still recommend giving a listen to as the narrator was great.

I am a huge sucker for holiday stories and this one just got me.

Kate accepts a proposal in order to save face and avoid awkward situation. Afterwards she heads to the US to complete an assignment where she meets Sam and begins to question not only her engagement but a lot of her life choices.

Right from the start I was hooked to this story. I love the idea of accepting a proposal and not being sure its the right thing. I loved that she took off and then immediately ran into Sam which starts the whole enemies to lovers trope. The banter is on point and there were multiple instances that I was chuckling.

I loved how Kate was re-evaluating her life entirely. I love that she began to set boundaries and enjoyed following along as she grew as a character. There were definitely some characters that I found to be unlikeable but for the most part I liked everyone.

I listened to this one via audio and it was narrated with Hayden Bishop. I think she was perfect for this character and flew through this one. Highly recommend the audiobook.

Overall, loved this one. Read it in one sitting and loved where the story went. As for holiday reads this one was great! Be sure to check it out. Huge thank you to NetGalley, Emma Tallon and Dreamscape Media for the ALC in exchange for the honest review.

I just couldn't get into this one. I didn't like the main character. I also couldn't get on board with the emotional infidelity.

This book was a cute winter romance that is perfect to pick up if you love Christmas time! This book follows Kate, a contract lawyer, who accidentally accepts a proposal from her long time partner Lance. When she finds herself roped into a case that causes her to fly over to America and stay awhile around Christmas time she meets Sam and her perspective on life and family begins to shift.

Overall I enjoyed this story but I can't say it was my favorite read but there were definitely some moments that were fun and silly to read. This gives small town Christmas book vibes well and I think if that is what you are looking for this is a great option but the characters were a little hard to relate to. Kate is so rigid at the beginning and I understand that Sam brings a different side out of her but to be a strict lawyer who can't stand up for herself much to someone pulling these pranks and tomfoolery felt a little bit too childish and out of character. And I understand talking to her boyfriend was not always as accessible and that's what gave her the ability to show interest in Sam but it felt a little bit like an emotional affair. And she expresses how she would never cheat, didn't go into why that was such a firm stance for her, and then kind of did anyways seeing as she was (*Spoiler Alert*) going to tell Sam things were going to be different and she was going to break up with Lance before telling Lance only to be interrupted with his arrival. I don't know it wasn't a romance that I felt strong passion for. That being said I liked the whole who is the best fit to take on the company element of the story and the small town feel that this book gave. I think this book is the right book for many people I just think I wasn't the best fit for it.

I would recommend this book to anyone interested in a small town Christmas book. Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to read this story.

This is an ALC review for the audiobook. The only thing good about this book is the narrator. She was engaging, and really did a great job with communicating the tone of each characters voice. I hope to listen to more of her work!

I DNF'd this one at about 20%. I told myself I would push through for the sake of providing feedback, but then there was one line that turned me off entirely.

The problematic line: During a confrontation the author writes that the FMC "put on her best ghetto girl impression". I don't think I need to expand on why that line isn't okay. I couldn't get past it.

My issues with the main character: The FMC was infuriating. The number of times the she "kept quiet" in the beginning of the book was enough for me to want to put it down. Setting a character up to grow is one thing, but there were moments where her holding back felt so unnecessary. Every conversation the FMC had contained a moment of her not speaking up. Holding back an opinion, letting others make decisions for her, not outwardly using her expertise etc. Those interactions really didn't fit with her being an attorney.

I'm sad this one didn't hit the mark because the premise and description had me excited to read it.

Thank you to NetGalley for the ALC audio book!!

This book is really more like a 2.5 for me but I'm rounding down because as I wrote this review I found it just had more issues that I thought. It's very cute and Hallmark-y and some people are going to love it!

For me, it had a lot of issues. I contemplated DNFing the entire book and suddenly it was over.

The romance is VERY light. There is some emotional cheating, because this chick is engaged and falling in love with another man, but even that is very surface level and they have NO chemistry with each other.

The book is more about the MC and how she's trying to get out of her engagement and find the best candidate to take over a company of who's will she's litigating. I feel like her time spent with the MMC was just not enough to really have anyone catch feelings.

Then I have an issue with the narrator choice. This narrator is fine, however the FMC is British, and the narrator is not. And having a non-British narrator reallllllly took me out of the story because I couldn't stop thinking about what an odd choice this was. Instead of a non-British narrator with a decent British accent they really should have used a British narrator with a decent American accent.

Otherwise it's cute. It's a small town. It has to be saved. There is a love story in a diary. But no spice, no heat, no chemistry. It's not a real romance to me.

2.5 stars.

I really liked Kate as a main character. You don't get many main characters in rom-coms who are career driven, don't want to have kids, and somehow end up accidentally engaged for the majority of the book?! The whole concept of Kate accidentally saying "yes" to her boyfriend's proposal, accidentally agreeing to having the wedding on New Years Eve (just two months away), and thinking everything will end up okay just seemed far fetched to me. Her personality seems so much more demanding and assertive everywhere in the book, except for actually standing up for what she wants in her personal relationships.

I do appreciate how Kate started having feelings for her roommate, Sam. BUT she knows herself to not actually cheat on her fiancé. She would never forgive herself. We see these types of situations a lot in books. Someone is dating/married to someone who isn't right for them. They end up falling in love with someone else and justify the cheating in some way. Kate doesn't do this. She stops herself on multiple occasions to make sure she doesn't take things too far. I really liked this aspect of the book. But again, Kate was very strong-willed and assertive in this, but we don't see these types of qualities when she is helping plan her wedding and future.

Kate's mother in the audiobook was OVER THE TOP. I partially liked this and partially was annoyed. But there were multiple over the top scenes that could have been toned down for me. Aubrey was just too unrealistic of a character for me. There are definitely money hungry people out there, but Aubrey threatens Kate with burning her face off? Come on.

All in all, I think the book could have been toned down a bit, and Kate's character needed to be more consistent.

Thank you to NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for supplying me with an advanced audiobook.
