A very adorable children's book! I loved the style of art as well as the message to children -- that sometimes, being different isn't such a bad thing. I will purchase a copy for my daughter's library once this comes out!

Who knew ghosts suffer from some of the same problems humans do? Like being different. I hadn't planned to review this so early but my wandering fingers opened it by mistake and I decide to take an early look. Glad I did. Next thing I knew, I'd read the entire story. What a sweet, meaningful one. Poor little Ghost Quilt struggles to fit in with the rest of his ghostly family but, well, he isn't like them. They're all of the white sheet mode we're so used to seeing ghosts depicted as. Instead of light, swirly, twirly sheets, however, Ghost Quilt is, well, a quilt. A sweet little mostly blue quilt of blocks with various patterns but a quilt nevertheless. As a result, it's heavier and he has trouble keeping up, so to speak. No one really seems to bully him but he feels isolated just the same. Needless to say, finding the trail to his true self and realization that it's okay to be different isn't easy. You'll enjoy the story of how he does it, I'm sure, as well as the illustrations.

Speaking of illustrations, kudos to illustrator Eggenschwiler. He uses a limited pallet of colors, in fact it's largely monochromatic, but it serves us well to not just keep us in the story but show progress as it goes along. Actually, the only color that pops out initially is the blue and white of the quilt. It's as the story progresses that the color begins a slow, subtle transformation.I guess it's only appropriate for a story with ghosts that the arrival of Halloween seems to signal the switch. Be sure to pay attention to the color changes and, hey, don't miss the patterns on Ghost Quilt himself. The sunset at the end was a lovely touch.

Bottom line, a sweet, charming story that will help lead children to understand that being different isn't of itself a bad thing. It's an important message, especially to children, although one older readers can embrace, too. Thanks #TundraBookGroup for allowing me this early intro to Ghost Quilt and his world.

The Little Ghost Who Was a Quilt - Gift Edition is a lovely book. The illustrations are beautiful and fit in with the haunted house element perfectly. I love the story of a ghost who is feeling different and finds a grand adventure on Halloween....with a human family! My young reader also loved this book and we had a fun time reading it together. Perfect for young readers who love ghosts, a little bit of spooky or looking for confidence in feeling different. Highly recommend!

Thank you to NetGalley and Tundra Book Group for providing me with this arc in exchange for my honest review.

This is quite possibly the cutest ghost story I have ever read! It is a great reminder that Halloween does not have to be all scares and gore. The perfect addition to any picture book collection.

Different from his friends because he is heavy and made of scraps, the little ghost just wants to fit in and have fun like the other ghosts. Determined to have a great Halloween, the little ghost tries something new and discovers that being different might be the best thing after all.

Oop read these out of order. Though it didn’t really matter as the two plots didn’t really intersect. This was a cute story, and I enjoyed the plot. It was simple but enjoyable, and the art style really sold it. Like, genuinely you really can’t get cuter for art. Also this writer is a Canadian and a quilter? Love it.

With humorous and heart-warming details, Riel Nason’s “The Little Ghost Who Was a Quilt” tells the story of a ghost who is a quilt instead of a sheet. The little ghost bemoans its differences until one Halloween when everything changes. With illustrations that flow from page to page like a quilt in the wind, this book will inspire readers to think again about what it means to be different.

A heart warming story about a little ghost who was a quilt. Despite the other sheet ghosts making fun of him. He was able to help a little girl feel better and become a hero as well. Showing even if you are different you can do good things.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the arc.

🎃Being different can have its advantages!👍

An imaginative story with an adorable main character who learns to love an advantage he gains over his friends by being different.

Other ghosts cower and keep away from humans, even during Halloween. But the little ghost quilt is inquisitive and brave, using his difference to get up close and experience some Halloween literally in the lap of a little girl. And then generously shares the story of his experience with his friends.

The story was original, the artwork just right. I don't believe a preschooler will be able to resist the little ghost quilt's charm!

Thanks to Tundra Books and NetGalley for sharing a complimentary advance copy of the story; this is my voluntary and honest opinion.

Cute story about being different and how our differences can make us perfect for things others are not. Get book for reminding kids it is ok to look and feel different.

Absolutely love this little story of a ghost who isn't quite like others. It's a great message to kids and parents a like. The first thing that drew me to the book was the wonderful Illistrations. Each page was done wonderfully and took the story to a new level. Would definitely recommend this one to other moms and teachers.

The Little Ghost Who Was a Quilt by Riel Nason is a sweet and touching story about being different, and learning to love yourself for who you are. The little ghost, made of a colourful quilt instead of a lightweight sheet like his family, struggles to fit in. But he learns that his unique qualities make him special in ways he never expected.

The illustrations are beautiful, with the colourful quilt being juxtaposed against the pages' muted backgrounds, further highlighting the theme of individuality. While its paranormal characters make the book a great story for Halloween, its message about embracing differences is perfect for any time of year. It teaches children that while being different can feel challenging, it can also be a source of great joy and strength.

Nason's story is heartfelt and relatable, reminding readers that being different isn’t a bad thing - it can be wonderful.

A sweet story with an important message that being different is ok.
Beautifully illustrated. I can definitely see this being used in a classroom with everyone making their own one of a kind "quilt".

This is such a sweet story about how being different can be a challenge but can also be a gift. Children who feel different and unhappy about that will feel validated and seen while also feeling hopeful .

This is a stunning book, the story and illustrations are phenomenal. The message that it’s ok to be different and that sometimes good things happen because of our differences is so important for little children. I received a digital ARC of the gift edition, so I can’t yet speak to the quality of the physical book (gilt edges, cloth spine, etc) but I am optimistic enough that I have preordered the gift edition for my child and also plan on buying a copy for my nieces. Thank you to NetGalley and Tundra Books for the ARC.

Super cute! I wish there were more halloween and ghosty books when I was going up, so I hope to remember this one for when I have children :). The story was short and sweet about how being different can give you unique experiences that you may have never thought of!

What a beautiful little book. I think any child can get behind a cozy story about a little ghost and their tale. I think this book is great for Halloween time or anytime!

This is an adorable short story with amazing art. The story itself is about the complexities that kids have to go through, especially when they’re different. I wouldn’t say that there’s bullying necessarily, but more about how even a small reaction from a friend or peer or family member can make anyone, especially kids, feel put down. Even if that wasn’t the intention. It highlights how being different usually feels like such a negative when you’re younger until that moment that you realize that being different makes you unique and so much cooler than being like everyone else.

The art in this was so detailed. I went through reading along and then took another look through of just paying attention to the artwork. I really enjoyed the message and the theme. Halloween is my favorite holiday and the season that I have the best memories of. This made me feel like I was going down memory lane of my own Halloween nights from my childhood.

This little Series of delightful easy yet intriguing text and cleverly joyful illustrations is inspiring, fun, hopeful, and humorous. I often chuckled and even laughed out loud at the unintentional yet hopeful antics of Little Quilt Ghost. In this first entry, he discovers the scariness, excitement, and yes, fun, of Halloween.
