Cute book! Love the plus sized representation. Can’t wait to see more from this author. Hopefully others like this as much as I did and feel we were accurately represented.
I received a copy of this audiobook from netGalley for a honest review.
This book was wonderful. A look at how bad dating can be and the hope of your best friend loving you back can happen. Haleigh and Jack are meant to be but they had a chance that didn't go well and may their way back to friends but never lovers. Jack sees Haleigh's last ditch attempt to find love through her family and friends as his chance but thing go wrong when she finds a seemingly perfect match.
This was a cute rom-com and I could see the end coming and I wasn't sad about it! I loved how Haleigh took charge of her life and orchestrated what she thought was going to be a win! The dates were hilarious, including the birds. The supporting characters are as great as the mains! A great weekend treat!
Thank you to @smpromance and @jennylhowe for the ARC and to @spotify for the ALC!
Jenny L. Howe is one of my favorite authors and I had the privilege for being part of the street team for How To Get A Life In Ten Dates, one of my most anticipated reads of 2024.
This book is everything! I absolutely adored the FMC. She was vibrant and relatable - it's always nice to see a plus size FMC whose story doesn't revolve around her weight (also the bi-rep - incredible!) I love a good romcom and this felt like a classic one while being firmly modern.
The FMC, Haleigh, had so much emotional growth and her journey was the focal point of the story. The various dates she went on were so much fun and I loved the idea of her family selecting all of the suitors. The spice was satisfying, the tropes were great (friends to lovers, second chance) and I all-around adored this book.
How To Get A Life In Ten Dates is out now!
A fun quick quirky romance!
these kinds of books are some of my favorite niche, there's such a fun quality about these books.
the characters were so fun, our dates were hilarious and so fun. I need Netflix to get on this movie ASAP cause I need this as a movie!!!! it's just such a classic little Rom-com! the anxiety rep was great it felt real and relatable.
Very Happy to have this as my first book of 2025!
the audiobook was great! I really loved the narrator she fit the sassy-ness of the main character perfectly and just really brought Haleigh to life.
Jenny L. Howe’s How to Get a Life in Ten Dates is a delightful journey of self-discovery, love, and acceptance. As someone who values inclusive storytelling, this book had me hooked from the start.
The protagonist, Haleigh, is wonderfully relatable as a curvy, confident woman navigating the ups and downs of dating while staying true to herself amidst the well-meaning setups from her friends and family. I loved how the story celebrates body positivity without reducing Haleigh to a stereotype or making her weight the sole focus of her character. Instead, she’s a fully realized individual—funny, ambitious, and vulnerable—making her a character we can’t help but cheer for.
This charming and adorable rom-com left me smiling from start to finish. I’m excited to read more from Jenny L. Howe in the future!
Thank you Net Galley for the opportunity to listen to this book.
This one was just okay, actually a little less than okay. It was just trying too hard. Not for me at all. Had a couple funny lines and was pretty well written though. 2.5 stars
Haleigh doesn’t have her life figured out. She hasn’t figured out what she wants for a career, her family is always asking her about her romantic life, and she’s in love with her best friend, Jack. When Haleigh has to find a plus one for a big event, she agrees to let her family set her up on dates that she will try to make successful. As Haleigh spends time with new possible love interests her feelings for Jack rear up while a new guy catches her eye. Will Haleigh find her HEA?
Wanted to love this book but I just kind of liked it. Haleigh is an okay main character but she didn’t feel fully developed. Her romantic interests didn’t feel flushed out and the conclusion of her love search felt rushed. Also, for a rom com I didn’t find any of it patricianly funny. The book is fine but it’s not one I want to revisit.
This was a lovely story about a confident curvy woman finding love right under her nose! Friends to lovers is one of the best tropes out there. The fact that the heroine was plus size was worth 4 stars alone. We need more stories about plus size love. I loved the growth in the characters together and apart. I will keep reading more from this author!
While I liked the idea of this book, it didn't work for me in practice. Our MMC Jack has been pining for his best friend Haley for years. Haley is unlucky in love (mostly because dating while fat is daunting) and decides to let her friends and family choose ten dates for her to prove that dating is terrible and that they should stop trying to set her up. Haley's point is almost proved, until Jack decides to choose himself for Haley's competition.
Something about Jack didn't sit right with me. Rather than be honest with Haley about his feelings, he first sent her on a date with someone he knew would be terrible, to give himself the chance to "rescue" her. His actions felt sneaky and manipulative all around, rather than romantic.
I just wanted poor Haley to forget about dating and learn to love herself. She's only 25--her clock shouldn't be ticking at all. She didn't seem ready for a true love (she admits herself that she isn't ready to be an adult) so I found myself wishing she'd spend more time on self-improvement than on proving a point with bad dates.
Bad dates do make for good storytelling, though, so some of them were fun to read about.
I absolutely adored this audiobook! Billie Bryant’s narration was phenomenal, adding an extra layer of charm and energy to an already delightful story. Her voice brought the characters to life in such a vivid way, making it easy to immerse myself in the humor, heart, and romance of the book.
The story features a plus-sized heroine who completely stole the show for me. She’s smart, sassy, and unapologetically funny, making her a relatable and refreshing lead. Her confidence and wit shine throughout the book, and it was such a joy to root for her on her dating journey.
The structure of the story—ten dates to get a life—was both hilarious and heartfelt. I loved the throwback to How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, and the creative twist made it stand out as unique in its own right. The dates themselves were a perfect mix of chaos and charm. The dating fails were laugh-out-loud funny and full of awkward moments that had me cringing in the best way. But those moments also made the successful dates feel so much more meaningful and rewarding.
This book is the perfect blend of humor, romance, and self-discovery, with a heroine you can’t help but love. If you’re looking for a lighthearted, feel-good romance with lots of laughs and a dash of nostalgia, this is a must-read—or rather, a must-listen! Highly recommend!
I always love a plus size romance. But I didn't connect with this FMC she was immature and got frustrating. I would read more by this author but this one didn't hit.
This was such a great audiobook! I loved the story and the narrator so much that I bumped it up to 2x speed and blew through this in a night. Jenny L Howe is an amazing storyteller. I loved the fat representation, as well as the anxiety representation and how these two things come into play while dating. Jenny writes books for the girls who learned to love themselves authentically and wholly.
Adorable audiobook. The narrator was easy to listen to and did characters well. I enjoy stories with plus size women being strong and finding happiness and love. A fun overly involved family and a best friend that winds up to be the perfect guy.
Thank you to NetGalley for the advance audio copy in exchange for an honest review!
This one wasn’t for me, very millennial.
I liked the premise, but the pop culture references were a little too much for my taste. I think if you like a classic early 2000s romcom, this would work well for you!
How to Get a Life in Ten Dates by Jenny L. Howe is a charming and witty romantic comedy that blends humor with heartfelt moments. The story centers on Chloe, a woman who, after a series of lackluster relationships, decides to take control of her romantic life by embarking on a self-imposed challenge: going on ten dates to find the perfect match. Howe does a fantastic job capturing the complexities of modern dating, from the awkwardness of first dates to the emotional vulnerability that comes with opening up to new people. Chloe is a relatable and endearing protagonist, and her journey is both funny and poignant, making her a character readers will root for. Howe's writing is engaging, sharp, and filled with humor, ensuring that readers will be hooked from the first page.
What sets How to Get a Life in Ten Dates apart from typical rom-com fare is its exploration of self-discovery and personal growth. While the book certainly delivers on the romance, it also delves into Chloe’s own evolving sense of identity, showing how dating can sometimes be more about learning who you are than finding "the one." The supporting characters, including the diverse cast of potential suitors, add depth to the narrative, and the pacing is perfect, keeping the story light without feeling rushed. The book’s uplifting message about embracing life’s imperfections, taking risks, and being open to new possibilities makes it an enjoyable, feel-good read. It's a perfect pick for fans of romance looking for both humor and heart.

This was a true Rom-Com, Friends to Lovers, Found Family treat.
Haleigh who is tired of finding her person on her puts her fate of a plus one to her next family event in the hands of her friends and family. This group includes Jack that she has been life long friends with and had a short emotional and physical affair with on a trip some years back. Haleigh friends and family play a huge role in her life, emotionally and mentally and the story really showed all of this and why she put her fate in their hands.
We take this wild ride along with Haleigh, the questions at the beginning of this post are completed by the potential dates. So many funny moments including a third wheel bird, a Bradley (Not Cooper), Brian who just might be the one as he helps Haleigh in personal life too and Jack who throws himself in the mix.
It was fun taking the journey with Haleigh and I highly recommend you do the same if you are looking for a good rom-com read!

This book was good, but I didn't like it as much as the author's previous book, On the Plus Size. What I did like about the book was the body positivity and the plus-size representation.
I think my main issue with the book came from my annoyance towards the secondary characters (i.e. Haleigh's friends and family) who felt that at 25, she needed to be settled down with a partner in order to be happy.
Thank you to the publisher for the ALC in exchange for an honest review.
This was SO cute!! I really enjoyed Jenny's last two books and was so excited about this one. This was another fun one. Special shoutout to the narrator, Billie Bryant, who was FANTASTIC!
Haleigh and Jack have been best friends forever. A few years ago they finally admitted their feelings and hooked up during a vacation in Hawaii, but things went south before they came back home so they created rules to maintain their friendship and move on from what happened. The only problem? Haleigh isn't over Jack and despite giving the dating game a try, she can't seem to get it right. Bad date after bad date and added family pressure led Haleigh to consider a dating sabbatical. When Jack suggests giving it one last try by letting her relatives and friends (including Jack!) set her up on 2 dates each, she expects more of the same.
Haleigh was relatable and fun and I loved her relationships with her family and friends. As an adult with a pretty lackluster dating history, I felt her pain, and going through each date with her was all too real! This book was full of hilarious and disastrous moments but also a lot of super sweet and heartwarming scenes. As always with Jenny's books, I loved the plus size rep, body positivity, mental health rep, and diversity. Also, the cameos from some of my faves from "On the Plus Side" was a pleasant surprise!
Thank you to SMP and Jenny for this ARC and ALC.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing both an ARC and ALC of this book.
This was a charming romance. I loved following Haleigh's story to find love, and in a sense, find herself. I loved the chemistry in this book as well. And yes while the ending was predictable I really enjoyed it. Billie Bryant was the fabulous person to narrate this audiobook and I love how she brought Haleigh and the other characters to life. Overall this book was funny and heartwarming and if you enjoy books like that, this is the book for you.
Thank you again to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC and ALC.
