Jazz thinks that because his father was a serial killer that he will become one too, so he decides he is going to fight that part of him and hunt killers instead. His father was caught but Jazz figures out that this new killer is killing like his father did and talks the sheriff into letting him help find him.
His father has other plans though as he believes that Jazz is just like him.
Jazz, his girlfriend and his best friend are on the hunt for a killer.
This gave me The Following vibes and I loved that tv show so I really enjoyed this! Sorry I never got to it when it came out as it's really cool!

I read this book years ago when the ARC was provided but wasn’t an avid NetGalley user then and never reviewed this. I appreciate NetGalley having provided me with an ARC! This reminded me of Dexter, and the plot was really good! Jazz’s dad was a serial killer and he grew up with the repercussions of that. Loved all the characters! The ending was so shocking too! Loved this book!!
A father who not only is a serial killer, but one who takes his son along to watch. His 17 year old son decides that he want to assst the police in solving the crimes, after all, he does have inside information! But are his intentions all that they seem to be?
This book, though interesting, wasn't quite for me.
My interests have changed since I requested this book as I no longer primarily read YA. At this time, I won't be reading or reviewing this title as it does not fit my current interests or the interests of followers of my blog/Instagram. Thank you.
It’s been a long time since I picked up a thriller to read, and I am so glad it was this one! I Hunt Killers by Barry Lyga is the first in a series about the son of a serial killer and his hunt for a murderer who is following in his father’s footsteps. This one has been on my TBR for what feels like forever. I have an arc dating back to when I joined Netgalley (darn those free ones). I attempted a few times to get into it, but something just wasn’t clicking for me so I decided to try the audio, and oh boy! I devoured it. Charlie Thurston brings Jazz to life in a way that reading it simply didn’t do for me.
Jazz is an interesting character. Raised by his dad until he was 13, Jazz is haunted by the things his father taught him. He’s extremely smart to his own detriment, and it’s this cunning that gets him pegged as a suspect in the new string of murders that look an awfully lot like his dad’s victims. Jazz is easy to like, even when he crept me out. His dedication to prove that he isn’t his father sets him apart from the psycho that is in fact dear old dad.
What softened me to Jazz are his relationships with his girlfriend Connie and his best friend Howie. Connie and Howie humanize Jazz, keep him sane, and remind him that he is not his father. Howie is the comic relief, finding himself in trouble time and again, but he is who Jazz relies on the most. I like how the author built this friendship into the story.
The Impressionist who Jazz is working with the police to stop is haunting and creepy. This book takes me back to the 1990s when slasher movies were having their heyday. While this book is classified as YA, there is plenty of gore and violence, mayhem and crime to keep even adults entertained.
Overall, I really enjoyed I Hunt Killers. The suspense, the shocking ending, and Jazz’s struggle with his identity will leave you thinking about the story long after the pages end. If you are a fan of thriller/suspense, I highly recommend it.
This was an enjoyable read but I think it could have used a little more focus or direction. There was something that didn't *quite* stick with me or have me totally hooked. Or maybe I watch too many murder/crime TV shows...
I think I would have liked to see a little bit more from the characters. Just a little more development, have them be more well-rounded and feel like real people. I just didn't quite get into their stories as much as I was hoping.
The plot was interesting and still managed to keep a few twists. I enjoyed it enough to continue the series but I'm hoping the second and third book take things even deeper.
Wow....
....f*@k...
Not what I was expecting...the end was also not what I was expecting.
Imagine knowing the inner most workings of a serial killers mind, because you have been raised by one is a very different and neat concept for a book. Jasper is trying so hard to not be like his father, a serial killer, who groomed him to be just like him. This is a fear of his, a fear that he thinks everyone thinks when the see him. So when girls start getting killed, Jasper makes it his own mission to try and help the police in finding the man doing the murders. A way of proving to himself he isn't like his dear ol'dad, but the thoughts he has sometimes makes you wonder is really that different.
Lots of twists, and disturbing moments. I was kept guessing and the ending I never saw that coming and I am looking forward to reading the next book.
This book started out slow, but once it got started I couldn't stop. I got sucked into the story of Jazz and how his story would end. It's a fascinating read for anyone who enjoys books about serial killers. Lyga leaves you with a cliffhanger that makes you want to grab the next book. I'll definitely be continuing the series!
This book is pretty disgusting and upsetting. I can see young readers having nightmares from this book. There is gratuitous violence, rape, and vulgar remarks. I would not recommend it to impressionable readers.
One of my favorites. So complex, dark, and thought-provoking. Are we doomed by our DNA and upbringing or can we overcome it? The writing is so well-paced and intense. Loved it.
Just not my thing, sorry felt the writing was to juvenile for me. Guess I was looking for more of an adult read.
I AM SO EMBARRASSED ... JUST NOW FINDING THIS ONE ON MY KINDLE/AMAZON. WAS NEVER READ SO NO REVIEW COMING AT THIS LATE DATE. MY SINCERE APOLOGIES.
This was a very different book that had a great premise! Jasper Dent is the son of a notorious serial killer, giving this teen his own unwanted notoriety. Even so, he is a good looking, charming young man that the townsfolk like. The seventeen year old hears of a murder in his town and soon believes that it is the work of a serial killer. It takes all he can do, plus a couple more horrific murders, before he can convince the sheriff to listen to his ideas on the case.
Jasper, who goes by "Jazz" has one friend in his corner, Howie, a hemophiliac, and Connie, his girlfriend. He also has a rather unlikely friendship with the sheriff, who really seems to care about Jazz.
As Jazz becomes embroiled in the investigation, it soon bears a striking resemblance to his father's work. Jazz feels that he must stop the killer before more murders occur.
There is so much to Jazz. He is a very complicated character. He is likable and sweet, yet his greatest fear is that he is like his father, who trained Jazz while working on some of his victims. Jazz continually warns the few people he is close to that he may be just like his father. Fortunately, he has the loyalty of Howie, Connie, and even the sheriff, G. William, and they try to make him understand that he is very different from his father.
A fantastic main character and a captivating storyline make this a thriller that I'm glad I didn't miss! I'm looking forward to reading the rest of Jasper's story!
