I haven't read a lot of fantasy, but this book seems to have a very unique world and magic system. The idea of the firstborns of noble bloodlines having a curse was interesting.
I did not realize this was a preview and I look forward to reading the rest of the book!
Review of The Half King
The Half King captivates readers right from the start with its beautifully crafted preview. The opening pages set the tone for an engaging and immersive story, effortlessly drawing the reader into its world. The author’s vivid descriptions and intriguing setup make it impossible not to want more. A promising start that leaves you eager to dive deeper into the narrative.
The sample of the book was very intriguing. I enjoyed the fast pace of it to hook you in, but still leave you wanting more. I look forward to more world building and character development as the story progresses when I pick up the full version on my next book shopping trip.
Started the preview from NetGalley and immediatley had to go download the book and read it.
I loved it so much, I think its very fitting to read with how society is currently. (which is so sad)
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
First off- what a lovely map this book has! it was one of the most easiest maps I’ve had to follow so far!
Also- how cruel to give me 4 chapters this has me HOOKED already? The MMC seems like a complete d*%k already but I think I quite like how this world magic system works already; I’m a little confused by some but I think when I read the rest of the book I’ll get the hang of it!
Can’t wait for the rest!
I hated this book and didn't understand what is going on with this book. I do think it could have gotten better later on though. Might pick up and finish eventually.
Thank you for the ARC preview of the first four chapters!
From the first few chapters this book seemed really interesting, filled with court politics, magic/powers and possibly some mysterious elements. The FMC, Cerise, seemed like an intriguing character and I can’t wait to read more about her.
I can’t wait to read the whole book!
I received an ARC preview of the first four chapters, so I don't feel like I can give an entirely accurate review yet. I definitely hope to read this book in the near future because it definitely caught my interest.
The plot seems interesting and probably very political. From the bit that I read, the story seems to focus on Cerise who is supposed to be a seer. Her powers should come to her soon according to her instructor. Her instructor sees a vision that one of her closest acolyte has died and Cerise is to take her place. I am excited to learn more about the half king as it seems he probably has a lot of secrets.
Thank you to Netgalley, Entangled Publishing LLC, and Melissa Landers for an ARC preview of this book. This review is my own honest opinion.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this preview.
I loved every page. Am reading the book as soon as possible!! It is going to be a best seller.
Five stars! Recommend to all readers!!
This preview will only leave you wanting more! Four chapters of the new release The Half King by Melissa Landers was not enough! Definitely heading over to check out the whole book!
Great preview of The Half King! Now I'm thoroughly curious about these characters and this world that I need to purchase the book.
Thank you for the free read Netgalley
Wow that first chapter was really something 😲 I downloaded the ebook immediately after finishing the preview. I’m very intrigued by the way chapter 4 left off.
This preview had me hooked. I'm excited for the magic system and world building. I love that the first 4 chapters got me excited for the rest of the books!
Interesting premise that hooks the reader and hints at many mysteries to be solved. The first four chapters move a rapid pace. We are introduced to many characters with dubious motives and curious roles. The protagonist seems a tad naive but with sharp instincts and hidden talents…she supposedly has no gifts but already she’s a keen observer with integrity and drive. I hover between a three and four star review for this preview because I absolutely want to know what happens next and learn more about these intriguing and thrilling curses. However, there was a lot of “telling” in between some excellent showing, and I was skeptical that the main character could be thrust into these confidences so quickly. I am not sure how believable this premise is…even within a fantasy. However, I am eager to see all revealed and learn just how out of her depth she is…or if she will surprise me and take control of her narrative. I really want to know what happens next…
I’m completely hooked! I need all of it now! Great preview. The first few chapters were definitely enough to get me excited to read the rest of the book!
I love Melissa Landers Books. This was the first four chapters and leaves me ready for the full novel!
This was a great preview!
I loved the writing & characters. Both seemed really intriguing with a fitting plot and world building. Very mysterious.
The vibes somewhat remind me of The Foxglove King, which I also really liked.
Absolutely loved that it's not written in 1st person, because that's not particularly something I enjoy.
Cannot wait to get my hands on this book and read it!
This was a very intriguing first four chapters. There is a lot of information in here but I can’t wait to read more. Thank you to Netgalley for this preview.
“The Half King” has an intriguing premise: priestess Cerise has yet to be granted the gift of Sight, but she is sent as an emissary to the king’s court when her predecessor takes her own life without explanation. In this world, each of the ruling families carries a curse that matches what their ancestors did to wrong the goddess Shiera: Cerise’s older sister Nina carries the curse of devastating beauty, the prince’s historian Daerick is cursed with more knowledge than any human can bear; the king himself is already spending more than half his time as a shadow, and soon he will disappear altogether. But Cerise is burdened by her own prophecy which heralds her involvement in potentially breaking all these curses. I requested this book because I’ve enjoyed Landers’s other books, and this foray into fantasy is definitely promising. I’m looking forward to getting to read the rest of it!
Excited from the preview to get the full book! Of course a preview can't give you a scope of the book itself but I did like the few page snippet. Thanks Netgalley for the short. Originally when I requested, I didn't realize it was just for the short segment, so this will be a short "review" but I am interested in continuing this book. So far, I know this is a romantasy, and is marketed as a high stakes adventure so I hope the full book lives up to this! Curses, shadow kings, evil priests? I'm in. It's also supposed to be a slow-burn so finger crossed its a true slow burn, I live the the pining and the angst of the "will they or won't they," and I feel like that's been missing from a lot of books I've read lately. A king who turns to shadow at night and a seer acolyte who secretly has no seer abilities? Super cool idea, please don't mess this up. Like I said, it's hard to review a preview considering it's length, only a few pages can give you a vibe but not a full story. so this review is by no means all encompassing considering I've only read a small segment of the book itself.
