*Knightfall* by C.L. Embry is a compelling tale of self-discovery, ambition, and the search for meaning in a life weighed down by disappointment. Axel’s journey from a disgruntled castle knight to a man determined to master the mysterious art of alchemy is both gripping and relatable. His bitterness and frustration feel raw and human, making his quest to break free from the cycles of his past all the more poignant.
The story is beautifully layered with themes of redemption and transformation, and the world-building is rich, with just the right touch of mystery and magic. Axel’s reckless determination to find the last known alchemist adds an element of adventure that keeps you turning the pages, while his internal struggles ground the story in emotional realism. For fans of character-driven fantasy with a dash of alchemy and introspection, *Knightfall* is a thought-provoking and rewarding read. It reminds us that sometimes the greatest transformations start from within.
I’m sorry, but I am DNFing this book. Maybe I’ll try again, but the second chapter talks about sex workers being too overweight, and the MMC states “no amount of alcohol would arouse his manhood enough to bed those women” no thanks. Not for me. Maybe I’ll try to get past it, but right now, nope.
