Laura buys Pennycress Inn and discovers there's more needing done to open the inn. She discovers her next door Jackson is an old friend
A soft dnf.. Laura’s pity party um not my thing.
I may pick it again in future but for now my brain can’t bare this book anymore.
Laura buys an inn and hopes to finally make something of herself. Wanting to get away from everyone, she’s not expecting to know her next door neighbor.
This was a quick easy to read book. Fans of second chance romance will enjoy this book
Thank you NetGalley and the publishers for the opportunity to read this book.
I really wanted to enjoy this book but holy moly could she not get out of her own damn head. And then the way the ENTIRE town just ignores her? And all because of ONE person? Nonsense. And, of course, how the love interest just brushes off her concerns all because the town welcomed HIM with open arms? Gaslighting baby girl. Don't do it. AND then he goes from "lets tell them" to "I could never do that to you buddy" in the blink of an eye? Again I say, DON'T DO IT BABY GIRL. Will I read any other books in this series? Yes. Will I get mad at the ridiculous characters all over again? Probably. Three stars. Girly pop was better off on her own.
I received a free copy of, Welcome to Pennycress Inn, by Sarah Hope, from the publisher and Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. Laura is 38 and living at her parents house, after divorcing. Laura is definitely stuck in a rut, and needs a change in her life. Laura is a really great character, I enjoyed her. This was a good read.
Laura wants her family to take her seriously but with a recent divorce and an impulse buy of a run down in she’s a lot to prove. Moving to Meadowfield to start her new exciting venture she soon realises between unfriendly villagers and a falling down inn she may have bitten off more than she can chew, all she needed was to find her one ally is her neighbour who just happens to be her brothers childhood best friend. Together can they solve the mystery of the unfriendly villagers.
Great read enjoyed this book.
Laura's marrage has ended and she decides to have a clean break and buys Pennycress Inn.
She buys it thinkng it will be ready to welcome guests straight away only to find it needs work doing to it.
She has not been welcomed into the village and a runawaysheep causes more problems.
she does manage to find one freindly face in next door neighbour Jackson who happens to be her brothers friend who she has always liked and finds out he feels the same.
The first in a BRAND NEW series from bestselling romance author Sarah Hope Laura wants to shake things up. She’s thirty-eight, and has been living in her parents’ house since her divorce last year. Her siblings seem to have got their lives successful careers, happy marriages, beautiful children.
Laura’s determined to prove herself. And buying the beautiful Pennycress Inn in the idyllic Cotswolds village of Meadowfield could be just the way to do it.
But getting the inn ready for its first guests proves easier said than done! With crumbling walls, dangerous woodwork and loose roof tiles, not to mention unfriendly locals and even errant sheep, Laura soon fears she’s made the wrong choice.
Luckily a friendly face is on hand in the form of gorgeous chef, Jackson. But is he too good to be true? And just why are the villagers so against her?
Can Laura turn her life around and get the fresh start she longs for at Pennycress Inn?
Loved it. will recommend to others.
This is a sweet book about starting over. I enjoyed the set up of the Inn and the unhelpful villagers.
It was the romance that felt flat. While Laura and Jackson have known each other since childhood, the romance felt very insta-love. They lacked chemistry and the complication of Evie just made the story messier.
This was an ok read that I do think people would enjoy it just wasn't for me.
I received an arc of this book via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
an easy read romance set in the countryside of small town England. Laura, getting over the divorce and trying to stand on her own two feet, has decided to purchase a run down Inn. Lots to learn and lots to do, but doesn't help when the town's people are rude and not helpful at all. Luckily her brother's best friend lives next door, unbeknown to both of them. Did enjoy this one, and would highly recommend it. Just felt a bit frustrated that Laura had such low self esteem regarding her family. Otherwise good story.
I love a new book series! It’s always nice to meet new people and learn their stories, and this book was no exception. The only thing that frustrates me a little bit is the self sabotage by the characters! Otherwise this is a solid start by this author, who I enjoy. The story is predictable but lovely.
Poor Laura got divorced and her family doesn't support her. I got sick of the pitty party at chapter 3. Sorry but she's too me poor me my parents and siblings dont' support me.
This isn't for me. Maybe if Laura wasn't so pitty party I might have enjoyed this.
"Welcome to Pennycress Inn" is an absolute gem of a book that had me smiling from start to finish. Sarah Hope masterfully crafts a story that's equal parts heartwarming romance and empowering journey of self-discovery. At 38, Laura is a refreshingly relatable protagonist who proves it's never too late to start over, even when that means buying a dilapidated inn in a picture-perfect Cotswolds village.
The author brings Meadowfield to life with vivid descriptions and a cast of memorable characters. From the not-so-welcoming locals to the wayward sheep causing chaos, every scene feels authentic and engaging. The crumbling Pennycress Inn itself becomes a character in its own right, and I found myself deeply invested in its transformation alongside Laura's personal growth.
The romance between Laura and Jackson, the charming chef, develops at a perfect pace. Their chemistry sizzles while remaining sweet and genuine, and Jackson's support of Laura's dreams adds depth to their connection. Hope expertly weaves together the challenges of renovating the inn with the blossoming romance, creating a perfect balance of personal and romantic storylines.
What sets this book apart is its honest portrayal of starting over in your late thirties. Laura's fears, determination, and moments of self-doubt feel incredibly authentic, making her eventual triumphs all the more satisfying. The mystery surrounding the villagers' resistance adds an intriguing layer to the story that keeps you guessing until the end.
A perfect read for fans of feel-good romance, this book offers everything you could want: a beautiful setting, endearing characters, sweet romance, and just enough obstacles to keep things interesting. Sarah Hope has created something special with this series opener, and I can't wait to return to Meadowfield for the next installment.
Highly recommended for anyone who loves cozy romance novels with substance, heart, and a generous sprinkling of humor.
Thank you NetGalley and publisher for this book!!
I LOVED this book! It was a bit slow in the beginning but then boom I was hooked!! I finished it in one sitting! My first by this author but will not be my last!!
A big fan of Sarah Hope. A good read. I did find the main character very stubborn at times, I got why but it annoyed me at times .Families care but can be annoying .. A lovely love element and some nice twists with the inn and the villagers . Read it
Welcome to Pennycress Inn by Sarah Hope is a delightful and uplifting novel that perfectly blends heartfelt emotion with light-hearted humor. Set in the picturesque Cotswolds, the story follows Laura, a 38-year-old woman who, after a challenging divorce, decides to take a bold leap toward independence. Buying the charming but rundown Pennycress Inn becomes her project of renewal, but the journey is far from easy. From structural challenges to the skepticism of local villagers, Laura faces obstacles that test her resolve.
The narrative is beautifully complemented by a cast of relatable and endearing characters. Laura’s vulnerability and determination make her an inspiring protagonist, while Jackson, the kindhearted chef next door, adds a touch of romance that feels organic and engaging. The backdrop of the quaint village and the quirky locals create a warm, immersive atmosphere.
Sarah Hope’s writing shines with its light, conversational tone, though some moments resolve more easily than expected. Still, the book’s message of resilience, personal growth, and finding community makes it a comforting and hopeful read.
Perfect for fans of contemporary romance and women’s fiction, Welcome to Pennycress Inn is the start of a series that promises charm and inspiration in equal measure. A must-read for those who love stories about fresh starts and small-town life.
A fun read. Laura is recently divorced and has always dreamed of opening and running an inn. With her settlement, that's exactly what she decides to do and she buys the Pennycress Inn. After a few ups and downs and some funny moments her dream comes true. Laura was a fun character although all her self doubts and second guessing did irritate me a bit at times. But, it was an enjoyable, light story.
Thanks to Netgalley, Boldwood Books, and Sarah Hope for the free ARC. All opinions are my own.
Welcome to Pennycress Inn is a pleasant read about a newly divorced woman starting over. I enjoyed the descriptions of English village life, the warm family scenes, and the fact that both main characters were very likeable.
Laura uses her divorce settlement to buy the Pennycress Inn. She is determined to make a fresh start and to be independent, so she is dismayed that her brother’s best friend is living next door. That conflict is soon resolved and a romance ensues. Laura also has to deal with all the problems of an old structure as she readies it for her opening, and the fact the town is shunning her is a bit of a mystery that is eventually cleared.
A quick and enjoyable read!
A story about a woman who, post divorce, is looking for a fresh start and to prove she can succeed in reviving and old inn. Money pit and difficulty being accepted in the village begin to threaten..and then the neighbor turns out of bed childhood crush and her brother's best mate. I enjoyed this quick romance. The characters were good and the story flowed well
Good book. I enjoyed seeing how the characters progressed through the story. I definitely think the pace was appropriate for the plot. I would read another book by this author.
