I ended up not finishing this novel as I found the portrayal of trans and intersex issues to be misinformed and damaging. The author didn't seem to be clear on the difference between trans and intersex and used them interchangeably. There is also a troubling portrayal of someone with a mental illness that runs into the same problem of being badly researched and presented.
