What does it mean to be a friend? In an age when electronic connections can be made easily and quickly and where digital friends are as close as a click away, why do we often feel unconnected and alone? In Friendship Reset, author Maggie Craig explores one of the fundamental relationships human beings share – friendships. Grounded in her Catholic faith and drawing from her own experiences, as well as the experiences of friends and acquaintances, Craig provides the reader with an understanding of friendship, practical ways to start friendships, and encouragement for beginning the process of building these most important relationships. Craig is a gifted storyteller; her anecdotes are relatable, humorous, and provide examples of how to be a friend. She even includes an appendix filled with conversation starters, both serious and silly. Although we all can probably use a refresher course on friendship, people who have grown up in the digital age and the Covid 19 pandemic may find Friendship Reset the book that changes their lives.

I started this book thinking it was something I needed as a middle or high schooler. While I would have truly benefitted from it then, I was unprepared for how much I needed to read it as an adult in my thirties. Craig outlines a perennial challenge in a succinct, approach voice. Stories from her childhood and deep theology are intertwined in such a way that make this book enjoyable and thought provoking. After finishing it, I was convicted to rekindle old relationships and commit to building strong ones in my community. We would all benefit from reading Friendship Reset and taking Craig's words to heart; it would help us move toward Christ, toward one another, and toward greater joy. I can guarantee my daughter will be reading this one day.
