This is such an excellent YA fantasy read that also includes monsters, a creature trope I always adore.

Perfect for those who enjoy monster, monster hunter and magical abilities type of books.

I was enjoying this audiobook but sadly due to the Netgalley app crashing, I lost my copy and now I can't finish it as the archive date has passed.

From what I read, it was a great book and the narration was fab, so I'm disappointed to not finish it.

Thank you to the publishers for the ALC but Netgalley need to work on their app issues.

Thank you to NetGalley and the author for providing me with a copy of We Who Hunt the Hollow.

I found this to be a nice, cozy, easy read. I loved the blend of mystery, supernatural, and mythic elements in this story, with rituals, magic, and creatures mixed into an urban modern day city. The character development for the main character in this was great and we get to see her make mistakes but also learn and grow from them which fits really nicely into the YA style that this book follows and I really loved the magic system which has a lot of unique aspects to it.

That said this book is probably more aligned with those who like a cosier read where there’s still a story with some action but without being to complex or action packed.

This was not for me. It felt a lot closer to middle grade level than young adult which made it hard to connect with the characters and their reasons. I like how quirky Priscilla's POV was but her 'I'm not good enough' attitude felt extremely overdone. The politics of the Hollow Warriors were oversimplified to a bad vs. good fight and the love triangle really set the book back.

The concept of the story is interesting enough, and I liked that the world being overrun with monsters actually affected the people living in it on a wider scale (unlike the tired urban fantasy trope of 'normal people have no idea monsters live among them').

The narrator, Grace Laing, was great, and each character's voice felt well defined.

If you enjoy casual fantasy, monster fighting, and the family dynamics of Encanto, give this book a go. It's a short, fun read.

My thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an advance copy in exchange for an honest review!

The concept of "We Who Hunt the Hollow" is truly unique and brimming with potential! I absolutely loved the idea of a family of monster hunters with unique powers. The narrator, Grace Laing, has a truly captivating voice that perfectly suited the protagonist, Priscilla. Her Australian accent added a delightful touch, making the listening experience feel fresh and engaging. All in all, it is a decent listen with a unique premise and a fantastic narrator. It's a good starting point for a potentially exciting series. I'm curious to see where the author takes the story next, and I hope future follow-ups will further refine the writing style.

"Bolinda Audio, and the editorial team - thanks for giving me the opportunity to review an audiobook ARC of this publication!

The concept of this book is incredible and unique. The narrator Grace Laing has a beautiful voice and I thought her voice fitted well with the protagonist Priscilla.

However, I really did not get on well with the writing style. I would listen to this audiobook for a good while and end up not knowing what was going on as I’d have switched off. I am so gutted because I really wanted to love this book, but unfortunately it wasn’t for me.

We Who Hunt the Hollow is a fantastically fun fantasy that I really enjoyed. The audio narration was wonderful, I loved the loving side of Priscilla’s family, the world building and the familiars but struggled with the themes of inadequacy but, I am excited to find out what’s going to happen next. Thank you to the author, publisher and NetGalley for the chance to read this.

I enjoyed this one a lot. The world was cool and imaginative, and I liked the main character - she's such a well realised, realistic teenager. My favourite part was the family dynamics in the MC's large family, each with their own distinctive personality (in addition to their distinctive superpowers and animal familiars!) The twist in the end wasn't the most surprising, but you know what? I had so much fun along the journey I didn't even mind. I'll be following the author's career with interest.

The audiobook was well narrated, and I loved the narrator's accent!

Absolutely delightful!

Will happily read more of this series.

The plot follows Priscilla, a Hollow Warrior who assists her family in tackling monsters that appear to threaten the world. That's an over simplification, but the general gist.

Priscilla is tortured by feelings of not being good enough to fit in with her warrior family - her power is weak and she rarely goes into the field. I was frustrated with her a lot in this regard, because her family unit is quite clearly supportive and loving.

Still, the characters are defined well enough that I believed what I was reading, and Priscilla is a likeable heroine with natural teenage feelings of inadequacy compared to those she greatly admires.

I adored her family with all of its chaotic energy, and it made the story really enjoyable. Added to that, there are monsters, magic and dastardly deeds that keep things happening throughout.

The audio was a special treat for me - it's the first time I've listened to an Australian audio and it made such a difference listening to something read the way I would read it. It was so refreshing, and the narrator did such a brilliant job of livening up these characters and portraying the different personalities. Additionally, her storytelling was delightful and easy to lose myself in.

I was happily surprised to enjoy this as much as I did, and I'll be keeping an eye out for the sequel.

Highly recommend!

With thanks to NetGalley for an audio ARC

The audiobook of Kate Murray's debut "Hollow Warriors" is a YA urban fantasy that comes to life through its narration. Murray has created a unique world of monster hunters and supernatural powers, anchored by powerful family dynamics and including LGBTQIA+ representation. It reminds me of Hunger Games in the vibes and Buffy in the monster hunting.

The book's pacing is a little slow for me in the first half but picks up in the second, to create a comfortable level of tension. The worldbuilding has some minor gaps (tell me everything about this world!), but Priscilla's struggle with her extraordinary abilities makes this audiobook a compelling listen. The narrator captures Priscilla Daalman's inner turmoil and conveys the story's emotional complexity.

Definitely worth a listen if you like supernatural or urban fantasy YA!

I was really excited to receive the audio book version of this book as I had just bought a physical copy. Overall I enjoyed the story though it was a little predictable at times. The narration took me out of it at times, because an Aussie attempting a French accent is just incredibly funny to me, to the extent that I just completely lost emersion. The story was fast paced and the world was very interesting. I loved the family members but specifically the familiars, but maybe, I'm just a sucker for animals.
