A retelling of the Disney movie of the same name. The illustrations are great and the story has been adapted as best it could for the graphic novel format. The important elements are all here but like with most adoptions some parts of the movie had to be taken out. The graphic novel however does make up of this by including several short stories at the end that where not in the movie. I love seeing Merida and Fergus bonding over archery and the three brothers pulling pranks on Merida as well as their nanny put a smile on my face. This book is worth checking out for these shorts stories even if you have already seen the movie.

Merida loves to practice her archery skills every chance she can get. These moments aren't often, as she is the princess of her lands and the eldest of her siblings. While her young triplet brothers, Hamish, Hubert and Harris run riot through their castle, Merida must learn the history of her lands, and understand the expectations of a princess.

Learning her duties and responsibilities and listening to past stories and legends of their kingdom is tedious at best, but her mother Queen Elinor does her best to prepare her for her future. Little does Merida know that this includes being betrothed to the eldest son of one of visiting lords.

This is a completely different level of expectation and Merida baulks at the idea when told. Forced to meet the ever-boastful lords and their deplorable sons is something she must bear however, all the while looking for a way out. Her father King Fergus is keen for a match.

When she unexpectedly finds a possible solution, she grabs it, not realising the anguish it will soon pour upon their castle home and family. This solution involves witchcraft of terrible power, a mistaken identity and the life of one closest to her.

Merida has made a terrible mistake and must put everything back to rights before all is lost forever. Can the queen's tedious teachings help?

A full colour graphic novel adaptation of the 2012 Disney-Pixar movie.

A full team of designers and editors have brought to life on the page this action packed, humour filled but heartfelt medieval story. Pushing against parental expectations is a normal part of growing up, and although historical, this theme is universal to the present and any other era in our history.

Bright, emotive and including 4 extra stories at the conclusion of the main story, BRAVE is a treat indeed.

One of my favorite Pixar movies turned into a graphic novel? YES, PLEASE! I absolutely loved every page. It followed the movie perfectly. HOWEVER, there are a few bonus chapters at the end that are not from the movie AND they are wonderful: a family portrait sitting, Merida and her dad in a wee bit of an archery contest, bath time with the triplets, and a couple pranks between siblings.

I loved everything about this graphic novel and I think it would be perfect for kids. If you want to use it in the classroom, the Irish mythology is a perfect tie in,

Highly recommend for anyone who loved the movie and anyone who needs some bravery to be themselves.

Brave might be one of my favorite animated movies.
It is not easy to squeeze a 1 hour 33 minute movie into a 64 page comic book. I feel like some things might have been left out and I wish it had a bit more... substance?
The little vignettes at the end of the book were nice tho.

Review copy provided by the publisher and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Thank you so much for letting me read this graphic novel. It was so nice to revisited Merida's story. And the bonus chapters were so much fun.

Thank you to NetGalley and Papercutz for providing this book, with my honest review below.

My nephew who is 8 helped in reviewing this with me as he hadn’t seen the movie for Brave so was all about reading the story (and I was all about keeping him from the glazed eye look he gets when viewing any movie and TV). He absolutely adored this, the downside being we now will need to watch the film as a treat. The graphics were fun for me since they were extremely well done and the text was easy to follow for him. Sadly I can’t speak to how it will translate on a Kindle for Kids as we used my device, but assuming it goes well (or a kid would use their parents e-reader of choice) I highly recommend the e version and would recommend a physical copy. I’ll be recommending this for parents and friends struggling to get kids away from the TV and into reading (though beware it may lead you to a viewing party after all). As a treat, there are short stories to keep the adventure going after the main plot wraps up.

Thank you NetGalley and Papercutz for this arc!

5/5 stars!

This was a lovely adaptation of Brave, one of my favourite Disney Pixar movies! The hand drawn style really matched well with how the computer graphics look, so it didn't feel clunky or anything. I love the bonus stories at the end as well!! So cute and fun!

I discovered this graphic novel by accident and really enjoyed experiencing the story of Merida again. It was really shortened but the story still felt complete and coherent.
Additionally I really enjoyed the couple bonus-stories that give us more insight of the life in the castle.
I enjoed the artstyle which was faithful to the movie-designs but also offered something fresh and new for Merida.
Suitable for readers of all ages and fans or newcomers to the story "Brave"!

This book is a big meh in my opinion. It's not a bad book. The art is cute and well done, it's a faithful adaptation of the film. However, it's not good either. For one, this graphic novel is aimed at a really young audience, one who might not even remember when the original film came out. For another, why is this graphic novel adaptation coming out now, almost 12 years after the movie came out? The language is also really easy and the accents are almost completely gone. Overall, I found this to be disappointing. However!! There is definitely an audience for this book and I will say that this is a faithful adaptation of the movie and that this book is perfect for young Disney fans. It has its time and fanbase.

I love Merida so much and this really hits that same feeling. It is a retelling of the movie, but it also adds a few short stories at the end that I have never seen before. I love the art and can't wait to get a copy for myself.

We love the story of Merida! The Disney Comics Group; Alessandro Ferrari did a wonderful job pulling from the movie to create this graphic novel of Brave.
Yes sure it misses some information but my kiddos loved reading it and understood the major parts of the story. You can’t put word for word from a movie into a graphic novel. You are supposed to pull the emotion and store line from the images and they did just that!

** Thank you NetGalley, Papercutz, and the Disney Comics Group for an eARC copy of Brave.

This is the graphic novel version of Disney's movie Brave. Some details are left out, but the overall story is clear. There are some short bonus stories at the end.
