This book has been in my 'to read' list for a very long time. I finally was able to take a minute today to read it and I have to say I wasn't disappointed, but I was left wanting a bit more.
Big brother is watching - literally. With the fear of terrorism on the rise, two men create a program, Golden Shield, to assist law enforcement and Homeland Security in analyzing surveillance data and prevent attacks before they happen. The programming seems solid, but is missing one important element. When an attack occurs on the local subway station and Ben, our lead programmer, is left blinded, his colleague upgrades his eyes and links his brain into Golden Shield.
The topic - an over-reaching government surveillance system linked with a human mind - is an overdone one to say the least. But, even the most over used plot can get a winner every so often. I wouldn't classify this one as to being the best in the genre, but it did provide a great back story for our main lead. Where it fell apart was in rushing the ending and finishing abruptly. I wouldn't even say it was left this way to tie into another issue. It just...ended.
The artwork was solid and I do recommend this to those who enjoy a fast read in the sci fi genre.
