I ended up not finishing this book. I may come back to it later; but the story pacing did not grab me and the dual timeline felt forced- I enjoyed the 1940s timeline more than the modern day, and I just found myself not particularly invested in the mystery.
I would have liked to have felt more connected to the characters, but overall it wasn’t an unpleasant read - I just found myself not picking it up again.

It’s 1940 & Nita Bineham wants to work & get out in the world, but her parents are very hesitant since they’re upper class - daughters nor mothers work. She starts working at a newspaper as an intern cause of her father’s friendship with the editor. This opens up so many possibilities for her. Written with a dual timelines, it’s also 2008, Beth Bineham is struggling in her marriage, with her parents, & her job. When she visits her Great Aunt Nita, she discovers secrets her aunt holds from her past. While this was a ok read & the dual timeline kept me interested, I didn’t like the Wiccan additives thrown in. It felt familiar as well & like I’ve read it before.

Another great dual timeline novel from Victoria Scott, this time switching between 1940 and 2008. In the 21st century Beth discovers a decades 0ld mystery. This is a moving, evocative and a great page turner.

Set between 2 time periods we follow Nita and Beth as a secret long hidden entwines there stories together. I enjoyed the mystery of the story and how it slowly revealed throughout although felt in places the pacing and depth of the story could have been improved.

This is my second read from Victoria Scott and each book is getting better in my opinion. I love books set in WW2 and in dual timelines. The exciting part is to figure out how the two are connected and how the characters are related. Both points of view have strong female protagonists and through their eyes we read more about the challenges facing women in their time frames, especially in the 1940's.

I was interested to learn more about Wicca and 1940's journalism and I know that the author has a personal connection to journalism. The story covers many elements including espionage, divorce, family relationships, finances, societal pressures and betrayal. It is well written and the dynamics of family had me feeling hope to anger and beyond.

I didn't think that the title really fit with most of the book, unfortunately. The Storyteller's Secret may have been more fitting. It is somehow a bit deviating from the plot.

Overall, it was a well written and absorbing book that left me frustrated every time we had to go to the next timeline as I was invested in each chapter. It definitely warms up and gets better from 40% through.

My thanks to Netgalley and Boldwood Books for an ARC. All opinions stated are my own.

This was a wonderful cozy escape into 1940s England. Some romance, some intrigue, and a great MFC to love. I thoroughly enjoyed it and plan to read more by this author.

This book was the best introduction to a new-to-me author that I could hope for! It at times was such a heartbreaking story and so hopeful at others. I loved seeing the emotional growth of the “now “ characters. While there were parental struggles in both timelines, I appreciated that we didn’t get to hear much from them because they all suck! This book is another that emphasizes the importance of chosen family and I really dig that.

The joy of this book is the dual timeline of the story which originates with Nina back in 1940 and ends with her great niece Beth in 2008. In 1940 twenty-one-year-old Nina is struggling to find a purpose to her life, particularly as her mother wants to find her a suitable husband. She is offered the opportunity for independence with a job at the local paper. However, through her new role at the paper she hears a sinister rumour that there is a spy at large in the quiet village. Determined to prove herself by uncovering the truth, Nita must confront revelations that could change her life forever.

Meanwhile in 2008, following the death of her beloved great aunt, Beth escapes London for the seclusion of rural Surrey. Her family have asked her to sort out the house where her aunt lived; a dilapidated manor house. The timing is perfect as her life is a mess. But when her aunt's dying words point her to a stack of old newspaper articles, Beth finds herself drawn into decades-old mystery: a long-buried secret and an enemy dangerously close by.

I found the story and characters charming and the dual timeline really helped to build the story artfully. As we moved between the two time periods, we discover why the two women were particularly drawn to each other. I hope to read more of this author's work in the future. With thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for a copy of this book.

This book was a cosy story I liked. I like stories with two time periods combined and this one applies this kind of storytelling well. The characters are loveable and their ideas and actions acceptable. I also liked that the love story wasn‘t the main point of the book.
I can recommend this book.

In this fascinating dual timeline historical fiction novel, readers follow Nita Bineham in 1940s Surrey, where World War II and her new job at the local newspaper have collided with the rumors of a German spy in the midst of the community, and Beth, whose great-aunt’s death in 2008 brings her back to the old family manor and away from her collapsing career and marriage. Upon discovering old newspaper articles from the era and forced to confront the family manor’s future, Beth falls into this mystery and the secrets of this Surrey estate at just the right time. With two complicated and strong-willed protagonists who are dealing with personal and professional issues, readers will love the contrast and intersection of these two narratives in this unique new dual-timeline World War II story. With a couple fun mysteries, unique side characters, and a complex family history for each woman, this novel really emphasizes the historical mystery elements and character development aspect, which builds up the atmosphere and ambience of the novel. The two characters, Beth and Nita, contrast well and balance out the larger narrative, and their two different narratives draw readers into their personal struggles and the mysteries they are trying to solve in this fantastic new historical fiction release.

I very much enjoyed this dual time line book and found myself caught up and captivated by both the stories. I thought the author beautifully explored both of the main characters and stories with empathy and warmth and I loved the twists and turns and the way the book finished. Would very much recommend and look forward to reading more from this author.

The Storyteller's Daughter is the story of
two women of the same family, Beth in 2008 and Nita in 1940. When Beth visits her
Great-Aunt Nita, as she's dying, Nita tells her about a secret she would like for her to uncover. Beth is fascinated by the secret and immediately starts working to unravel it.

This book was told in dual POV alternating between Beth and Nita. This was a beautifully written family saga that I enjoyed immensely. I loved both Beth and Nita they were both fantastic strong characters. Overall, this was a heartwarming and intriguing historical fiction book with an interesting mystery at its core. I highly recommend it!

I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are my own.

What a fascinating and wonderful historical fiction. dual timeline and many secrets. I enjoyed Nina's story of life and finding the secrets of her family. It is a bit slow to start but builds as the story goes on. Both sides of the story were well thought out and well written. The characters I did love and the story was well put together and well written making it believable and easy to read. Loved it.

Thank you NetGalley and Boldwood Books for giving me the opportunity to read and review this book.

This book was a slow burn for me. I was interested in the house and the secrets that it held, but it was slow at first. When it got rolling, and the secrets and twists came out, I was hooked.

Thanks so much to NetGalley for the early digital copy of this book! I also listened to the audio thanks to hoopla! This was a well woven tale between two women, intricately connected. Watching their lives—one in the 40s amidst WW2 and the other in 2009–weave together was really beautiful. The whole “Wiccan” practices/piece of the story seemed like an odd addition to the story. But otherwise I thought it was a very beautiful story of two women in different worlds finding themselves and building their own lives and writing their own stories.

,Beth is a descendent of Nita's. Beth's life is in turmoil as her husband has asked for a divorce.
Beth goes to Melham manor to sort out Nita's estate. While sorting out Nita's effects Beth comes across long buried family secrets.
These are my opinions.

Thoroughly enjoyable novel set with a dual-time narrative where both stories keep you gripped. I really enjoy Nita’s storyline and it went in unexpected twists and turns that I didn’t see coming! As for Beth, I loved how she slowly emerged as the story went on and you saw her character arc as she grew to stand up for herself, inspired by Nita.

A well-written, interesting and emotional story.
