Kate Alice Marshall just knows how to do a thriller. I think I have enjoyed all of the books I have read from her, and this one was no exception. Isolated on a mountain with her brand new fiance's family, Theo is a woman who can't remember where she came from. But as she spends more time on the mountain, things start to click into place, and she begins to uncover what really happened to her all those years ago.
A great book to read in the winter, and I love this narrator as well, she always does such a great job. Another hit!

I thought I lost this arc, but finally found it on my Netgalley library somehow.
First, the good. This was a solid thriller, with great atmosphere, and less editing issues compared to her previous work, No One One Can Know. Also, the narrator did a great job, loved it.
The bad thing is, I'm getting bored of reading about rich people being terrible and carrying secrets from the past. But obviously, this is a personal complaint. Zero related to this work's qualities.

Thank you to @macmillan.audio for the gifted copy!
This felt appropriate to post the night before yet another snowstorm.
Kate Alice Marshall is one of my go-to thriller authors. Her books consistently keep me hooked and paired with the narration of Karissa Vacker (she narrates all of Kate Alice Marshall's adult thrillers) are simply divine.
A Killing Cold kept me on my toes, I was so invested in the main character and nearly had whiplash from all of the plausible theories and suspects rooting around my brain.
Intrigue, danger, mystery, and morally questionable rich people - this is a superb winter thriller. If you enjoyed Kate Alice Marshall's other books, or just enjoy a good thriller with winter vibes, absolutely read this!

I loved What Lies in the Woods by Kate Alice Marshall so when I was given the ARC for A Killing Cold I squealed! The book follows Theo, a woman with a troubled past, that is engaged to Connor, a rich, hot guy from a crazy important family (goals?!). She goes with him to meet his family for the first time and they get snowed in and some wild drama ensues! How fun?!
💕What I loved💕
I love a chilly, cold thriller - especially when my environment matches. It has been disgustingly cold here in Chicago so it was the perfect setting to read this. Snowed in/locked in is always a trope I am into so this was something I was looking forward to.
I also was livinggggg for the drama and the jabs the characters were all giving each other. I would have hated to be snowed in with all of those assholes but honestly.. living!. It was giving me a lot of what I get out of watching The Real Housewives so that was fun for me!
🤷♀️What wasn’t my favorite🤷♀️
I don’t always love an amnesia/memory loss angle in my thrillers but that just is a personal thing.
I really liked this book overall and recommend it before Spring comes if you are looking for something new.

Just finished A Killing Cold by Kate Alice Marshall, and wow – what a wild, chilling ride! I’ve got another of her books on my shelf, and after finishing this one, I can’t wait to dive into it. ❄️
This book takes us to a remote, snow-covered mountain retreat, where Theo, a woman with a mysterious past, is about to meet her wealthy fiancé’s family. But her history is clouded in secrets: she’s adopted, has no memory of the first four years of her life, and doesn’t even know her real name or what her mother looked like. 😳
As Theo navigates this freezing, isolated place, she finds herself facing not only her fiancé’s disapproving family but also uncovering shocking clues about her past – including a haunting photo of herself as a child in a cabin she’s never seen before. What’s the family hiding, and can Theo uncover the truth before it’s too late? 🕵️♀️
The suspense in this one had me hooked from start to finish, with its perfect mix of thriller and mystery. I found myself reading about blizzards and icicles under an electric blanket (yes, even though it’s not cold outside!), feeling the chill in every page. 😬 And that twist at the end – I didn’t see it coming, and it left me with a satisfying resolution that doesn’t always happen in thrillers. 🙌
If you’re into mysteries that keep you guessing and a bit of icy suspense, this one is a must-read. It’s well-crafted, well-paced, and definitely keeps you thinking long after you’ve put it down. I’m giving it 4 stars! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Perfect for a “cool down” read by the pool this summer – it’ll keep you on your toes, even if you’re soaking up the sun! My thanks to NetGalley, Kate Alice Marshall and Macmillan Audio for the ARC of this audiobook.☀️ #BookReview #AKillingCold #KateAliceMarshall #MysteryThriller #WinterVibes #Bookstagram #ThrillerReads #Suspense #PageTurner #netgalley

10/10 I absolutely loved this book! So many twists and turns to keep you engaged and on your toes. Couldn't put it down, especially near the end. LOVED IT!

Another great book by Kate Alice Marshall! Filled with secrets, lies, deception, and family bonds this book touches on all the feelings. With each twist more and more secrets are revealed, and the lengths a wealthy family will go to to protect each other becomes evident. Add in a miscommunication trope, and its a recipe for a great thriller. Atmospheric and dark this book had me gripped from the beginning!
Karissa Vacker did an amazing job of bringing this book to life! One of my favorite narrators!
Thank you to NetGalley, Flatiron Books, and Macmillan Audio for an advanced reading and listening copies of this book.

I thought this was a decent mystery! (def wouldn’t consider this to be a thriller) I loved the winter/isolation setting. I could not put this down and was constantly thinking about this book throughout the day. I truly had no idea what was going to happen or who I could trust.
loved the short chapters. it reminded me of a calmer version of the family game & daisy darker? mostly family drama with tons of secrets, lies, & unlikeable characters
speaking of characters- there were alottttt of them. i’m honestly shocked I didn’t take notes. I did however have to reread multiple chapters cause sometimes I would get confused. Having this many characters reminded me of the movie Knives Out and Ready or Not.

This was such a great audiobook! I couldn't stop listening. The narrator was perfect and the story was just so intriguing. I love a rich family with secrets!! Great read!!
*Thank you partner @flatironbooks and @macmillan.audio for the #gifted audiobook.*

There’s something about listening to a thriller that makes it hit even harder—and A Killing Cold by Kate Alice Marshall is one of those audiobooks that pulls you in and doesn’t let go.
The story itself is full of slow-burn tension: Theodora heads to her fiancé’s secluded family estate to meet his very powerful, very secretive family. But then she finds a childhood photo of herself taken at that same house—one she has no memory of ever visiting. That one twist sets everything in motion.
And the audiobook? It’s so well done. The narration adds an extra layer of unease, especially in the quiet moments—those pauses, those uncertain thoughts. You can feel the isolation of the setting, the snow piling up outside, the weight of the secrets pressing in. It’s intimate and unsettling in the best way.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for sending the ALC in exchange for an honest review.

“Secrets…the private things we live our lives pretending no one knows.”
Theodora Scott falls hard and fast for wealthy Connor Dalton. Shortly after a whirlwind engagement they take a trip to Idlewood, the winter retreat owned by her fiancé powerful family. All she has to do is win over his skeptical relatives. How hard can it be? Not even the threatening messages she receives can deter her. But quickly she begins to feel an eerie sense of familiarity at the cabin, and she wonders if there’s more to the Daltons than meets the eye.
Oh boy was there ever…
I LOVED What Lies In The Woods and No One Can Know by Kate Alice Marshall so I couldn’t wait to listen to this one! And it did not disappoint. This book was so twisty I swear I have whiplash. JUST when I thought I had it figured out BAM! Another twist. Even the twists had twists.
And how many more times do you guys want to hear me gush about Karissa Vacker’s narration? Is this good? One more? Just keep going?! You let me know…🤪
Thank you to Netgalley, Macmillan Audio, and the author for the complimentary ALC.

This is my third by this author and I adored the first 2. This one kept me invested to see the way it turned out but overall I was fairly disappointed. There were really no shocking twists and I was just fairly bored throughout this one. It wrapped up nicely but I’m bummed It didnt wow me a little more.

What a thriller!!! Totally kept me at the edge of my seat and I absolutely loved the twists and turns!! This book kept me guessing and I enjoyed it the whole time..
Thank you NetGalley for the advanced copy in exchange for my honest opinion.

When Theodora’s new love Connor brings her Idlewood, his family’s isolated retreat, she is hoping to win over Connor’s less than accepting relatives and enjoy her surroundings. Unfortunately for her, that’s not so easy, especially given the threats Theo has been receiving. Complicating matters is the fact that Idlewood seems familiar to Theo, though she is at a loss for why.
Fearing for her life isn’t what she bargained for, but unfortunately for her, it’s inescapable. Can Theo uncover the past and survive Connor’s family and the elements? I’m afraid I cannot say, you’ll have to read or listen to this one to find out.
Thank you to NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for the alc.

Theo goes with her new fiancé Connor to his family cabin for the holiday. She needs to impress the family, since they come from money and she comes from tragedy. But with so many unknowns and secrets about her past, what should she do when memories arise?
It was a fun story. Connors family does not let people in easily, even though he loves Theo, how can she impress them. Why is there a closed off cabin, and why is it calling Theo. When she investigates it, why does it open more questions than give her answers. Will Theo ever be able to learn the truth about her past, and the lodges past before it’s too late?
Theo was enjoyable and relatable. A little full of bad decisions, but she’s stuck in this atmospheric winter wonderland not feeling wonderful at all.

A Killing Cold by Kate Alice Marshall
What a bone-chilling winter thriller that kept me on the edge of my seat. I totally loved it!
The story follows Theodora Scott, known as Theo, a 24-year-old woman who quickly falls in love with Connor Dalton, a wealthy and charming man. After a short six-month romance, they get engaged, and Connor invites Theo to his family’s secluded estate. But once she arrives, things take a dark turn.
Theo meets Connor’s powerful and intimidating relatives, who seem to be hiding something. Then, she starts receiving mysterious messages warning her to stay away from him. As she tries to uncover the truth, she begins to wonder who she can trust. Is she in danger? What secrets are lurking behind the walls of the Dalton family estate?
The book is set in a cold, mountain retreat, which adds to the suspense and makes the story even more fun. There is an eerie atmosphere that makes you feel the chill both inside and out. The tension builds with each chapter, leading to shocking twists that kept me interested.
Thank you @macmillan.audio for the gifted audiobook narrated by Karissa Vacker.
Her voice brought the characters to life!
This book is full of suspense, unexpected twists, and a chilling atmosphere! If you love a good mystery that keeps you guessing, this book is a must-read!

Man I am sucker a ~rich people problems~ thriller! This was super atmospheric with its isolated setting, everyone has a secret, and the narrator isn’t reliable!
This was fast paced and was able to finish is in 1 day. Tons of twists and turns through out; however, I had the final twist figured out before we go to the end.
Overall, this was a great read and I definitely recommend it you are looking for a fast-paced, overly dramatic read!

Enjoyable read that kept me in suspense. I liked trying to figure out who to trust, how everything connected and what was going on. Everytime I thought I had things figured out, I'd be surprised by new information, leading me in a new direction.
I'll definitely suggest this book to my friends to read. Kate Alice Marshall is quickly becoming one of my must read authors!!

Thank you to NetGalley, Kate Alice Marshall, and the publisher for an advance listening copy of A Killing Cold. Lies, loss, family secrets, and so much deceit- sign me up! The narrator made this such an atmospheric experience for me that I truly felt chilly while listening along. I liked the slight twists in this one and how everything got pieced together. Definitely check this one out if you love a good family murder mystery.
This is out now!!

As much as I appreciate an audiobook ARC, I was unfortunately not a big fan of this novel. To me, it was another unremarkable, run-of-the-mill popcorn thriller with a secluded setting, a main character with memory issues, and a far-fetched plot. There was a lot of characters to keep track of, and I didn't feel connected to or care about what happened to a single one. I feel like I have read this same story before and nothing about it was new or surprising. Disappointing, since I really enjoyed Marshall's No One Can Know. The book's only redeeming quality was Karissa Vacker's narration, which was great.
Thank you to NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for the ARC of this audiobook!
