This was a letdown. I love Kate Alice Marshall, but this was a miss for me. The audiobook narration was good. There were a lot of characters to keep track of and I got a few of them mixed up. The twists were pretty good. The timeline was slightly confusing as an audiobook as well.

Really loved reading this one. It was quick and intriguing and I was so glad to see it as a book of the month pick! Definitely snagged it

I really enjoyed the initial setup as Theo is meeting her fiancé’s family for the first time at their vacation home. However it lost me after a bit. Know how annoying it can be to listen to someone telling you about their dreams? Turns out it’s still annoying if that person is fictional. This isn’t a long book but it felt extremely long and I eventually decided to DNF. Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for the free audiobook to review.

Kate Alice Marshall did it again! This book is fantastic. I really enjoyed listening to the audiobook. The plot was perfect, I read a lot of thrillers so it's not often that the twist surprises me, but this one did. Throughout the plot it had me guessing and it kept my attention span. I liked it a lot. This is one I would love to pick up to add to my physical collection to read again later!

This was a very well narrated audiobook. I mainly listened while I ran on the treadmill and it did keep me guessing and my mind off running.
That being said, I’m a mood reader, it is -10 degrees outside and this book has winter themes. If I read this book in the summer I don’t think I would have liked it as much. It is your typical thriller. It had a few twists some I was able to guess. This is more of a cheap thrills book, and what I was looking for in terms of winter running. I do not think it will be memorable and I don’t think I would have liked reading it as much as I enjoyed listening to it.

I think this is my favorite yet from Kate Alice Marshall!
Twisty without being contrived. I loved Theo as a main character and was rooting for her the whole time.
I can’t wait to force all of my thriller reading friends to listen to this one.
Karissa Vacker, as always, is an excellent narrator. Particularly love her for thrillers!
Thank you to Macmillan Audio and NetGalley for the audio ARC!

I enjoyed the twists and flashbacks and the fact that this book is relatively short. I felt that the writing relied a little too heavily on the trope of girl from the wrong side of the tracks/with a dangerous past falls for a rich guy with a difficult family. This narrator was compelling and did a good job with characters’ voices without overdoing it. Overall, A Killing Cold is an easy, twisty read and I enjoyed the narrator’s work!

Not my favorite book from KAM but I still enjoyed it! It's a trapped on a snowy mountain with your fiances sketchy rich relatives kind of story. I didnt really expect who the culprits were but its partially because I was quite into it enough to play the guessing game. The narrator was excellent as usual!

I haven't had a 5 star read in what feels like forever until now! I absolutely loved this book. I was hooked and could not stop listening. I needed answers just as badly as the main character. I didn't trust anyone. I couldn't figure out who knew and who didn't. I couldn't figure out who was involved and who wasn't. There were twists and turns and I was all for it! Its been a long time since a book has hooked me like this and I didn't want to stop reading/listening. I was invested and needed information and was just as anxious as the main character. In the end I did not see the truth coming!

Another thrilling read from Kate Alice Marshall! This was a perfect listen for a bitter cold, snowy weekend, and I loved it!
The story itself was wildly improbable. But the many twists and turns in the story kept me intrigued and guessing. I loved the mountain camp setting SO MUCH, and so much of the tension in the book came from an absolutely perfect setting. As a general rule, I also love books where I get to peep the lives of the obnoxiously wealthy, especially if there are secrets or deception…and this book was full of both.
The audio narration was excellent. Overall, five stars!

I listened to this one. The narration was great! I really enjoyed the story. There are lots of twist and turns. I would think I had everything figured but then there was a twist each time. It is a really fun book to listen to!
Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.

“A Killing Cold” is a delightful and concise whodunit. However, it succumbed to the predictable genre for me. Despite it being extremely entertaining, it’s a story I’ve read just one too many times.

Listening to Karissa Vacker narrate A Killing Cold by Kate Alice Marshall was a fantastic way to begin the year. The narration was excellent and the story was engaging and kept my attention. This chilly thriller is full of secrets and twists and some pleasant surprises. The story was intriguing from the start. It was a great closed room mystery. Theo, is an interesting character with secrets and the author did a great job slowly allowing things to emerge. Unraveling her memories and her story and figuring out how it was intertwined with her wealthy fiancé's and his family was really intense. His family is equally fascinating, horrible and good. The characters have so much duality, it really keeps the book moving and the reader reading. The story is intense, and I love how the author sprinkles bits and pieces along the way. I would highly recommend this book
Thank you to NetGalley for the ability to listen to the audioarc to preview.

This was such a good book. I loved the story and the writing so much. The characters were great and the story flowed smoothly. Will definitely read more books by this author in the future.

Secrets, lies, twists, turns, & a shocking reveal that you won’t see coming… what more could you want in a suspenseful thriller?! Oh, let’s just add a snowy mountain setting with a spectacular lodge & a lonely ramshackle cabin. PERFECT!
This twisty thriller had me hooked from the very beginning until the very end. Just when you think you know where this one is going, you realize how wrong you are. The Author’s misdirection game is on point, to say the least. The characters were unreliable & I couldn't decide who to trust.
The end of this book really felt like a true thriller! My heart was racing & I was STRESSED OUT. I finished the book late one night, because I couldn't sleep until I learned how things turned out.
A lot of it was definitely PUSHING it as far as believability goes, but I've learned to just embrace the reading experience - so it didn't bother me! Also, if you think your in-laws are bad, just wait till you read about these toxic in-laws. You haven't seen anything yet!
As if this all wasn’t enough, the audio version is narrated by the incredibly talented Karissa Vacker - & anything that she narrates is something that I want to listen to! As always, her performance was absolute perfection.
Keep an eye out for this winter thriller releasing February 4th, 2025! Make sure to put it on your TBR.

What a chilling tale.
I could never imagine going through that she did as a child only to have even more happen when she became an adult.

Another stunning mystery from Kate Alice Marshall, which does not surprise me at all after What Lies in the Woods and No One Can Know.
Katie finds herself on a two week getaway to her fiancé's family retreat. However, her fiancé (Connor) is not from an average family - he's from the wealthy and powerful Dalton family. When this retreat starts to feel familiar for Katie, pieces start falling into place. Pieces that have been buried so deep in the past she cannot fully remember them. As this puzzle unfolds, we are left wondering who we can trust, what really happened, and what can really be believed about what happened at this retreat years ago.
So. Many. Twists. I was intrigued all along, but the last 1/3 or so I was so engaged I was frustrated with anyone who tried to interrupt me. There were so many twists and red herrings that it required focus to go along with Katie as she tried to unravel the truth of her past. I really liked not knowing who or what to place trust in given the plethora of unreliable and untrustworthy characters. It seemed that there are many mysteries to solve, so while some twists were a bit predictable, that did not detract from the enjoyment of the story.
Karissa Vacker provided strong narration for all characters and a flow of the story that was enjoyable and easy to follow.
Definitely recommend as a February 2025 release! Thank you to Macmillan Audio and NetGalley for the eALC in exchange for an honest review. Comes out next month!

Narration: 5⭐️
Story: 4.5⭐️
Thank you to NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for the eARC in exchange for an honest review. I chose this book as my Book of the Month as well, and the audio confirmed it was a great choice for me.
To begin with the narration part of this review, I thoroughly enjoy Karissa Vacker as a narrator and this audiobook reinforced that. I think she has a great natural tone, she uses great inflection for the various emotions characters are experiencing, and her pitch for different characters — both male and female — is always well-done and never grating. I would highly recommend picking up this audio based on her performance.
As for the story, a protagonist with a mysterious past meets her rich fiancé’s family which has a number of long-buried secrets and scandals all coming to light in a secluded winter environment? Say less. There were so many twists and turns and ties to connect and make sense of everything. I don’t want to say too much and risk spoiling anything, but there were reveals that were tragic, heartbreaking, surprising, and maddening. It all comes first to a tense showdown followed by a simmering reveal once the heat is off. I had one part figured out but there were so many layers to uncover that built the story to its conclusion. It kept me fully engaged and had me needing to finish even after I had left my usual audiobook spaces.

A Killing Cold by Kate Alice Marshall was a mixed bag for me. The plot seemed pretty familiar and generic (girlfriend with secret past is away with boyfriend's wealthy family in a secluded area. They're eventually snowed in and, surprise, they're in danger!). However, since I didn't know what was going to happen in this particular take on that familiar theme, it did keep me reading and intrigued. The character development felt a little flat, although I did like the main character. The first half of the book really flowed well, however I felt it dragged near the end.

Read this if you like:

The audiobook is fantastic and I binged this so hard. It’s intriguing from the beginning and super twisty. I thought I knew where the story was going at one point and I was wrong! Thank you macmillion audio for the ALC
