Theo and Conner met 6 months ago and fell head over heels in love. Now engaged, he is taking her to his wealthy family’s winter retreat. She has been receiving text messages from an unknown person warning her not to go. The Dalton family is ruthless and don’t exactly give her a warm welcome.
Theo has a feeling she has been at this winter retreat before. And as she begins to remember things and she does her own sleuthing, the mysteries surrounding her past…and her present, come head to head.
This was a fun, if not a very believable read. I listened to this in audio format and the narrator, Karissa Vacker, did a truly excellent job.
I have read two previous books by Kate Alice Marshall before, one I didn’t like and one I loved. This one falls in the middle for me. I enjoyed the sense of isolation and the tense atmosphere was beautifully written. Theo was a great main character, who was flawed and likable. It just boils down to how believable I found this book and it’s just too many coincidences for me. I think you have to believe in fate for this story to work for you and that’s just not me.
But, overall, it’s a fun, fast paced thriller that’s an enjoyable winter read.

I love Kate Alice Marshall and I enjoyed this narrator. This wealthy family’s winter retreat, their family secrets and drama were great and everything was perfectly paced. Most all of the hints that were dropped throughout made it fun while putting the story together. Until the end, I felt like it was too much and keeping up with the twists just became annoying.

Thank you, NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for this surprise ALC!

A Killing Cold by Kate Alice Marshall

Thank you to @macmillan.audio, @netgalley, and @kmarshallarts for the opportunity to read this #advancedlistenercopy in exchange for my #honestaudiobookreview! This book will be available February 4.

This was a chilling one - no pun intended! Such a dangerous and twisted web - definitely not possible to guess all the twists and turns! This had the high stakes feel of The Family Game with the ruthlessness of The Fiancée and the holiday backdrop made it all the better. This is one you’ll be glad you snuggled up next to the fire to enjoy! I highly recommend this for thriller fans who enjoy a solid mystery!

TWs: inf*delity, framing, g*slighting, loss of a loved one, child n*glect and abandonment, t*lk of su*cide,dr*gging, more

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✨ - 4.5/5

I've been very picky about my mystery/thrillers recently. I’ve only been reading authors that worked really well for me before which is why I was excited to pick this one up. This one is probably my favorite by her yet, I had a lot of fun with it. The winter setting and the seclusion was done really well, the MC was endearing. I really liked how it ended up playing with some tropes and how the twists worked out.

I had really loved Karissa Vacker’s narration in both of the other Marshall novels I listened to, her narration style and tone works really well for the first person, female MC thriller. The plot was also easy to follow on audio.

This was a phenomenal thriller! This was a super easy read and was hard to put down! Every chapter ended on a cliffhanger, and I couldn't wait to read more. It was amazing from the beginning until the very last chapter. It's definitely worth the read!

4.5 stars rounded up.

Straight away we meet Theo and her wealthy fiancé Connor. Theo is nervous to meet his family due to their wealth and her lack of family and modest lifestyle.

Their weeks spent with family at their remote cabin start in a frightening way with messages and notes showing up for Theo. As the puzzling events unfold, Theo feels uneasy and investigates on her own.

Eventually, we learn the truth about so many parts of the story and it’s not as great as it seemed.

Advanced listener copy provided by Macmillan Audio but all opinions are my own.

Thank you @macmillan.audio & @netgalley for my complimentary audiobook. All opinions expressed are my own.

Theo Scott and affluent Connor Dalton are set to marry when he brings her to his family's Christmas retreat, located in a remote area with no cell service. Anxious about meeting his family, Theo is met with mixed reactions, as they question her intentions in marrying Connor. Meanwhile, she receives unsettling text messages urging her to stay away from Connor. Adding to her unease, Theo experiences hazy memories suggesting she has visited this secluded retreat in the past.

MY THOUGHTS: The expertly crafted plot of this thriller had me hooked from beginning to end! I loved the isolated winter setting which added to the building tension throughout the book. The characters were intricately developed, each with their own motives and secrets, which kept me guessing throughout the story. Just when I thought I had everything figured out, the surprising plot twist caught me off guard. I enjoyed the audio version of this book, expertly narrated by Karissa Vacker. If you enjoy a winter thriller, you will not want to miss this one!

This was a whirlwind of a story! I was absolutely refunded the whole time. Every guess wrong. Even when I was right, I was still wrong.

Theo not even knowing her own past and thr tidbits she's dropping from the start about being a bad kid...it all just, wow. Really wow.

So much choice in this book. So much rich privilege. And this was absolutely delicious from start to finish.

Kate Alice Marshall is the queen of spinning a web of untrustworthy characters and untangling the past and present into a beautiful story. I’m definitely a fan of her thrillers, and this one did not disappoint. There were some unexpected revelations at the end, and I was pleased with how the story wrapped up.

Thank you Kate Alice Marshall, Macmillan Audio, and NetGalley for the opportunity to read an advanced copy of this audiobook! The sound quality was great. As always the narrator, Karissa Vacker, did an excellent job bringing the characters to life. There are a lot of characters and some flashback scenes and she made it seamless to follow along.

Thank you netgalley for the ALC. I have really enjoyed the other Kate Alice Marshall books I've read. This one wasn't my favourite but it definitely was still enjoyable enough to finish. The mystery felt a little bit lackluster at times. But I did love her fiance and his role in this book.

A Killing Cold is an absolutely unputdownable thrilling ride. It is filled with secrets, lies, twists and turns that left me absolutely shocked. I truly enjoyed the storyline, the writing gripped me straight away, the unfolding was perfect, dropping little bombs here and there to keep me on the edge of my seat throughout. An intricate plot that was developed to perfection.

The characters were really fun, some highly unlikeable, some untrustworthy or are they? I loved the back and forth the author had me on. The setting was an absolute banger, the isolated winter retreats, it made for such an even more chilling read. There was a constant sense of danger, a constant build of suspense. Yes you might have to suspend a little disbelief in regards to certain events and explanations, but I truly loved it even though!

An amazing chilling, thrilling ride. I really enjoyed every second of this one which kept me on high alert from start to finish until the mind blowing conclusion.

🎧 The narration by Karissa Vacker was nothing short of perfection. She is truly a masterful narrator. She delivered on every single aspect. Every single emotion was felt, she built the suspense expertly and truly brought the story to life. I highly feel like it definitely enhanced my enjoyment of this book to have listened to her! Great performance!

Kate Alice Marshall writes it know imma love it.

I have been eating up her adult thrillers and this one I think is the best. (Could be that it’s the freshest in my mind) all are great.
In this one the Fmc doesn’t know her birth parents and is no contact with her adoptive parents and is hoping to make a good impression with her fiancés over rich family.

Murder mystery, family drama, twisty and fast paced.

Ate.

Thanks to netgalley and Macmillan audio for an alc

Another paranoid and creepy thriller from Kate Alice Marshall that you’re sure to be delighted by is here. A Killing Cold has a great psych thriller setting: a remote snowy mountain with an impossibly wealthy family with lots of dark secrets. The backstory unfolds masterfully and the web of family secrets is revealed and wrapped up. Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for early access to the incredible audiobook narrated by Karissa Vacker. I love everything she narrates and she does this one in her effortless style.
