I had hoped that this book was aimed to capture the attention of teens, but I feel like the format wasn't super conducive to getting a teen to sit and read it. The content was fabulous, but will definitely need an adult to 'translate' the info to most teen in a way that works well for their interests and learning styles.

Arc Review:
Overall Rating: 4 Stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I think that this book is filled with plenty of advice for teens who are trying to navigate this world. This book goes over some of the essential skills teens will need such as money management, communication, problem solving, critical thinking and making smart decisions in an easy, understandable and relatable way. The tips provided are practical and can be used right away. I think this is a good source for teens and I wish I could have read something like this when I was younger to help prepare me.
Thank you NetGalley and publishers for an advanced readers copy of this book.

I love this book so much and wish I could’ve had this sooner! This is a book that every teenager should have especially before their 20s. I would say teens as early as high school freshman should read this, though it can still be read in fresh 20s. It covers a lot of important topics and gives insightful advice. It even comes with easy recipes and instructions for almost everything. The author did an amazing job and is very thorough in this book. This is a book that should be included in ALL schools!
I definitely recommend this book to everyone. This is a must have resourceful tool.
Thank you to the author, the publisher, and NetGalley for this e-ARC.

Essential Life Skills for Teens lives up to its name. It's a fully comprehensive book that offers advice about almost everything.
While I think some of it would be best to go over with a trusted adult, like the financial advice and diet suggestions, most of it is really good for teens go learn and read about themselves. From health advice, like how to handle diarrhea or help a person having a traumatic event, is not only useful for teens, but everyone. I thoroughly enjoyed the time management section. As a young adult first entering the world, time means nothing and it's such good advice to hear about time management and how it affects others.
I personally found the critical thinking chapter to be useful, and I think it would be an excellent chapter to use for adults as well. I don't think enough people really apply critical thinking skills to their everyday world, so introducing this to teens and young adults is such a valuable and essential skill (see, it's right in the name!)
There are a few items in the book that will only work as a digital copy, such as videos to fix leaky faucets (how cool is it to learn this at a young age?!), so be aware of that when you purchase the book.
The chapters also come with a checklist and exercise to further build on the topics covered, which really hammers home the key takeaway for each chapter.
This would be a perfect gift to any graduate, first time living alone, or major life changes for young people. I think we can even ignore the "teen" aspect of the title and give it to anyone who is looking to improve upon their life and become more independent.

"Essential Life Skills for Teens" by Emma Davis is a comprehensive guide aimed at equipping teenagers with the practical tools necessary to navigate adolescence and transition smoothly into adulthood. Drawing from her extensive experience as a clinical social worker and therapist, Davis addresses key areas such as financial literacy, effective communication, time management, and relationship building.

Readers have praised the book for its practical approach and relevance. One reviewer highlighted its usefulness for both teens and their parents, noting that it serves as a valuable resource for fostering independence and confidence in young adults.

A Practical, Well-Rounded Guide for Teens and Educators
Emma Davis’s *Essential Life Skills for Teens* is a fantastic starting point for teenagers looking to develop the tools they need to thrive in their teenage years and beyond. As an educator, I found the book both practical and approachable, offering a wide range of advice on everything from communication and emotional intelligence to time management and financial literacy.
What I loved most about the book is its clear and engaging tone—it’s perfect for a teenage audience. Davis doesn’t talk down to her readers, and the exercises and real-world examples make abstract concepts easy to grasp. The focus on interpersonal skills and emotional intelligence is especially valuable. These are the kinds of lessons that aren’t always covered in school but are crucial for success in life.
That said, the book covers a lot of ground, and sometimes the advice feels a bit surface-level. For teens dealing with bigger challenges, like mental health struggles or systemic barriers, the guidance might not go deep enough. I also would have liked more attention to digital literacy—understanding how to navigate the online world safely and effectively is such an essential skill today.
Overall, *Essential Life Skills for Teens* is a solid resource for teens, parents, and educators alike. It’s practical, easy to read, and packed with advice that’s applicable to everyday life. While it might not cover every issue in depth, it’s a great starting point for building the skills teens need to succeed. Highly recommend!

This read like a poorly organized collection of articles ghost-written by a content farm. The language is highly technical and sterile, and the book reads like a product manual. And it completely misses the needs and wants of the target audience (the section on life skills includes tips for maintaining the roof, the gutter and the HVAAC system, but nothing on maintaing a car!) sorry, won't recommend.

Lots of great information I felt like the format made it a little overwhelming though. I tried to read it with my teen and he was turned off by the amount of writing. Might be best if broken down in chunks and shared.

As a mother and a high school teacher, I would recommend this book to parents, teacher, teenagers, and administrations of schools. There is some really practical advise and things I wish I had taken more seriously at a younger age. For teachers there are some great lesson ideas to being these ideas into the classroom. For admin, there is some great curriculum ideas that can be sparked from this book.
