RIVETING, FAST PACED PSYCH THRILLER! Daniel Hurst does it again. Hooked from the beginning. How well do you know your husband? This book tells the story from two POVs - the wife, Jenny, and the husband, Lachlan. I was kept on my toes wanting to know what was going to happen next as we uncover the secrets of Lachlan’s past. I really enjoyed the wife’s character and the way the children are intertwined. I rated this one 4 stars just because you learn some major information early on which takes away from the suspense factor. Thank you NetGalley which provided me with the opportunity to read this one early in exchange for my honest review.

How could you not want to read a book with the tag line: Is the man you love…a killer? I’ve read a lot of thus author’s novels and they never fail to impress me. Jenny has been married to Lachlan for over twenty years and they have two teenage children, a beautiful home and a perfect life. That is until Jenny’s friend whispers something that makes Jenny doubt everything. She who was pers urs strange that Lachlan has lived in two places, each with an unsolved murder. One a small Scottish village where he grew up, and the other more recently, a friend in their local town. Surely it’s just a coincidence, but with Lachlan’s increasingly erratic behaviour, Jenny starts to wonder if she truly knows her husband. And as they embark on a trip to Scotland, has she put her family in danger? This is a fast paced, addictive thriller that will keep you hooked to the end. Thank you to NetGalley, Bookouture and the author for the chance to review.

Another amazing book by an author I've grown to love. I love how quick his books are to read and this one is no different. Couldn't put it down.

Oh, this was soooo good! I’m so tired today because I stayed up way too late reading this one, but I don’t even care. It was totally worth it!

Jenny and Lachlan are married with 2 kids. And Jenny has never been to Lachlan’s home town in Scotland. So when their daughter wants to watch a true crime documentary, and Jenny recognizes the name of the small town where an unsolved murder is being investigated – they all want to do a family trip to Scotland. Except for Lachlan. Because he is the killer. He is afraid of returning. It wasn’t his only murder.

The tension, the fast pace, the characters – I absolutely loved everything about this book.

HIGHLY RECOMMEND

This is not the first book I’ve read by this author. I’ve read The Perfect Nurse series. RECOMMEND The Nurse’s Mistake and The Nurse’s Lie.

I was hooked from the getgo! Honestly my 2025 mission is to read his entire back list! As someone who entered thriller with Freida; Daniel has won me over FAST his writing style is so gripping even if you can guess where the story's going! With that being said the plots were twisting till the very last page! Highly recommend this short page turner !!

I have a love hate relationship with this author. He’s written so many many books and I don’t enjoy all of them. A lot of them don’t have substance to them. This just didn’t interest me.

The Husband
Daniel Hurst is becoming one of my favorite authors! I think this is my favorite book by him so far. This book is very addicting. I read a lot of thrillers, and I really liked how this one was different than any other book I have read. I was intrigued that the reader knows the killer from the beginning of the story. I didn’t really know where the story was headed at the end but was pleasantly surprised by the ending and the twists! The way the author incorporated the documentary into the story felt very current and was easy to relate to. The atmosphere of Scotland and the wood was the perfect setting for this thriller. I enjoyed the back-and-forth chapters from Lachlan and Jenny hearing from both of their perspectives. I stayed up late finishing this book and would recommend it to anyone wanting to try Daniel Hurst's books!

Thank you, Net Galley, the author, and the publisher, for an e-ARC in exchange for an honest review.

As you can guess its all about secrets and lies, but not in a typical sense.
Jenny and Lachlan have been married for over 20 years with 2 children, they are happy, have have a good life and everything seems picture perfect, until Jenny watches a tv show with her daughter about an unsolved murder in the town where her husband grew up.
Alarm bells start ringing, is her husband who he says he really is, what is his secret, is it going to come back and haunt them can she really trust the an she calls her husband and what will the fall out be.
It was a great book with lots of twists and turns, sometimes book can stall a little bit or get too caught up in the story or too complicated but not here.
Thank you to Bookouture and NetGalley for and ARC in exchange for an honest review.

The Husband

Here's a new thriller hitting the shelves in January. I would definitely say this is a thriller vs mystery, because there's no real mystery who the killer is. However, there is definitely a did he or he didn't he?/will he or won't he? aspect to it.
Jenny has the perfect husband Lachlan, who is the perfect father to their two children. The only thing he doesn't ever want to talk about, however, is his childhood in a small Scottish village. He left when he was a teen and never returned...bad memories cloud his view of what should be a quaint, rural little village. Then one day their daughter decides to watch a new popular documentary about a 25 year old unsolved murder that just happens to have happened in Lachlan's village. His reaction to the story has him acting strangely and Jenny wanting to know more about his youth.
Told in alternating views from Jenny to Lachlan, the story unfolds and Jenny decides they need to face his past if they are going to have a future. A trip to his village turns up more questions than answers and Jenny discovers she may not know Lachlan as well as she thought.
While it wasn't a mystery, it did hold my attention. Read in one day.

This novel epitomises dark and twisty escapism! I am once again beyond impressed with the utterly genius imagination that Daniel Hurst possesses to keep churning out these gripping thrillers at a rate of knots!

Jenny is a happily married mother of teenagers, content with her lot...until she stumbles upon a documentary about an unsolved murder that happens in the home town of her husband. Her friend suggests that it is strange that her husband has been in close proximity to 2 murders in his lifetime ( a close friend of Jenny's was also murdered). Meanwhile, Jenny's husband, Lachlan is reacting very badly to having advances to the attractive, Francesca, rebuffed - leading us to speculate as to whether another murder is on the cards!

This novel starts with the reveal of Lachlan's darker tendencies so no spoiler is given in this revie.w. This novel is. not a whodunnit, but it is so good at what it does - entertain!! I was up and reading into the early hours as putting this book down was not an option!!

My thanks to NetGalley, author and publisher for the opportunity to review this book in exchange for an advance copy.

This was an addictive and highly engrossing plot with many twists and turns that kept me on the edge of my seat throughout!

It poses the question of how well do you know the ones closest to you and how far would one go to protect those you love.

This book had it all from all from secrets to deception. The characters told from the POV of the husband – Lachian and the wife – Jenny. If I had to pick a favourite character I would say Jenny because she has a lot to deal with!

I’d highly recommend this book! The twist at the OMG it was epic I couldn’t believe it!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ stars

Daniel Hurst's books are usually a big hit with me, but "The Husband" fell a little short. While the premise was compelling, the first 60% of the book felt incredibly slow. The daughter's constant whining and the wife's poor decision-making made it difficult to connect with the characters and become invested in their struggles. Despite this, the story did eventually pick up, leading to a more engaging second half. Ultimately, the compelling storyline earned this book three stars, but it wasn't Hurst's strongest work.

Daniel Hurst’s The Husband is a psychological thriller that delves into the dark secrets lurking beneath a seemingly perfect marriage. The story follows Jenny and her husband, Lachlan, as a chilling mystery begins to unravel, raising unsettling questions about how well we truly know those closest to us.

Told through dual perspectives, the narrative offers an intriguing glimpse into both characters’ minds, with Lachlan’s chapters adding an especially eerie edge. While the plot is suspenseful and full of twists, the pacing occasionally felt slow, and certain decisions made by the characters seemed a bit far-fetched. That said, the tension builds steadily, leading to a shocking conclusion that’s well worth the wait.

If you enjoy thrillers with family secrets, and a touch of psychological complexity, The Husband is a gripping, thought-provoking read.
