Story is told from the POV of ‘the Husband – Lachian and the wife – Jenny

Jenny is a somewhat typical homemaker with an ideal husband, beautiful but typical teenage children and they live in a beautiful ideal neighborhood.
A typical evening after dinner is Dad and fifteen years old son Willian watch a sporting event. Mom and seventeen year old daughter Bonnie watch a movie in another room.
One evening Bonnie wants to watch a ‘true crime’ documentary Jenny would rather a sweet romance but gives in.
They are watching an unsolved murder case that occurred in the same small Scottish village where Lachian grew up. The girl who was murdered was fifteen at the time of her murder- Bonnie immediately get the connection that her dad was also fifteen at that time and since the village is so small he surely knew her.
When he discovers what they are watching the documentary he is furious and denies that he knew anything about it and then tells Bonnie no more TV. She stomps off to her room.
Jenny is shocked with his reaction.

As we learn more about Lachian and what happened via his POV.

This story wasn’t the typical Danny with twist and turns and then the big reveal as to whodunit. We KNOW whodunit. It did keep me reading but I prefer the other of expecting the unexpected!

I am still a big Daniel Hurst fan. He is an entertaining writer - this is my twenty-second story!
I am already looking forward to his next thriller!

Want to thank NetGalley and Bookouture for this early e-Galley.
Publishing Release Date scheduled for January 20, 2025.

Book #37 for me by the great author Daniel Hurst. If Daniel Hurst writes a book, I’m going to immediately read it. This kept me up into the wee hours at night trying to figure out the ending. Lots of secrets, lies … this has it all. What will Daniel think up next? This is different than his other books IMO and it starts off with a bang immediately!! Leaving nothing to the imagination … well there are a lot of things that now come to mind but holy cow, this was a great thriller. Talk about psychopaths. This one takes the cake. The twist at the end was the icing on the cake.

I’ve read all of Hurst’s standalone books at this point and sadly this one ranks towards the bottom for me. Even though the plots are predictable and outrageous, I still have fun with them. Enjoying the twist and shocking revelations. This book had no mystery or suspense. The reveal comes pretty early in the story, like at the beginning. What I did love was that Jenny was a smart character and was seeing through the shenanigans. Hurst’s books are comfort reads, so I’ll definitely be reading the next one.

Wow!! Daniel does it again! His books always keep me on my toes! This book started out great right away! Jenny is married to Lachlan. They seem like the perfect family but everyone has secrets. Not only did he kill paisley when he was younger, he also killed Teri, one of Jenny’s friends. He spent his whole life getting away with killing Paisley but with a new documentary out on about her death, he may no longer be lucky. Lachlan is a creep!! I feel so bad for his family. I was on the edge of my seat the entire book. It’s so addicting you won’t want to put it down! I can always count on Daniel’s books to be good! I’m never disappointed. 10/10 would recommend!!
Thank you NetGalley, Daniel, and Bookouture for the ARC!

Jenny and Lachlan have been happily married for years. They have two children and an apparently perfect marriage. However, Jenny knows nothing about her husbands secret, the fact he is a murderer.
The story is told alternately by Jenny and Lachlan, Jenny tells of doubts and worries about her husbands behaviour, and Lachlan is just trying to keep his family unaware of his past.
Fans of Daniel Hurst will love this book, I found it to be an enjoyable domestic thriller, with the plot twists and turns we expect from this author.

This is another fast paced thriller from Daniel and it didn’t disappoint. It was full of tension and I found It to be well written with believable characters. A great read.

Well he does it again another dark thriller about whether you ever really know the person you are married to. This is a great read about Jenny who has the perfect marriage and two kids growing up to fast. As she starts to worry about life now her daughter is about to go to university she is trying to create memories before it’s too late but while watching a true crime documentary about a murder in the town where her husband grew up her whole world changes and she starts to question whether she really knows her husband at all. This is a great read that I couldn’t put down and I really wish I knew how Daniel has all these amazing stories in his head!

This was my first read by Daniel Hurst so I want to thank NetGallery and Bookouture for the ARC! I found this to be a quick read and enjoyed the back and forth story telling of Lachlan and Jenny. It definitely makes you wonder how well do you know the people we love and what secrets they carry from their past that might eventually catch up with them! Would definitely recommend when it comes out in January 2025 and I look forward to reading my next book by Daniel Hurst!

This was a miss for me. Not very suspenseful, unlikable characters, and I felt like the writing was dumbed down.
Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for access to this eARC.

Another fast paced thriller from Daniel Hurst that had me rushing through to find what happened next. Not as many twists as some of his books, but still a fun read. Lots of unlikeable characters making bad decisions all leading to a series of tense moments. For any one married, this may have you asking how well do you know your spouse! Thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for the advanced reader copy in exchange for a review. (3.5 stars)

This book is another winner by Hurst! He has that easy writing style that makes you want to keep on reading! A seemingly perfect marriage that holds horrible secrets! The husband is not what he first appears to be. We learn early on about his past, and then we are carried through some frightening moments. Is anyone safe? Thanks to NetGalley for this ARC.

I was so excited to read this book, I wish I could say that I loved it but I didn't, it was an OK read, I felt it lacked depth and character development. I would still recommend this book and I'm glad I read it.

First of all, thanks so much to the publishers and Netgalley for this ARC, which I appreciate is in EPUB format.
Narrated by the perspectives of the killer, Lachlan, and his obvious to his past wife, Jenny, this book presents us with how a devoted family man confesses to us his killing vice, one he has under control until a documentary on his first ever murder when he was a teenager entices his whole family for a visit to his natal town where it happened. From that moment on, you can feel his anxiety through how well-written this book is and Jenny's concerns and suspicions about him. It may be a bit dense sometimes, but it is a good read with an ending that will not let you indifferent.

Jenny has a suspicion that her husband may be connected to a murder.
A thriller told from two perspectives that was slow at the start but had some twist and turns.
Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for my e-copy in exchange for an honest review.

Sometimes knowing the identity of the killer at the beginning of the story dulls the rest of the plot, but in this case, it heightens the suspense! I loved this story and raced through it in one afternoon. Fans of psychological thrillers will be so happy with this one!

3.5/5, rounded up to 4.

A domestic suspense drama that was pretty easy to predict, with the exception of the very last part. I’ve enjoyed several of Hurst’s books, including the doctor’s wife series. I couldn’t get into this one at first, but gave it another try and am glad that I did. Overall, time well spent and an enjoyable read. I would recommend it.

Thank you to the author, publisher and NetGalley for the advance copy. All opinions are my own.

As always with a Daniel Hurst novel you're treated to a fast paced domestic thriller with some great and not so great characters.
In this latest offering we meet Jenny and Lachlan, married 20 years with 2 teenage children. Jenny thinks the only thing she has to worry about is her daughter Bonnie leaving for University, however she's unaware that Lachlan has a secret past.
Told from the perspective of both Jenny and Lachlan in alternate chapters it's unusual to discover Lachlans secret from the outset but as his past catches up with him it's fascinating to see how he attempts to manipulate his family.
Another brilliant read

How well do you know your spouse? How much did you know about his or her past before marrying them?

In what I consider Daniel Hurst’s best book to date, this is a question that bears thinking. What if after many years of being married you begin seeing cracks in your spouse’s behavior?

This book is a must read for fans of Daniel Hurst. It’s a fantastic thriller with many heart pounding moments. I highly recommend this book.

My thanks to Netgalley for this arc.

A book by this author equals a good book for me. I have never read one of his books I did not enjoy and what I like very much about them is the fact when you think that everything has been unraveled, the author still has a surprise waiting.

I loved diving into the both Jenny's and Lachlan's heads, wading through their thoughts and the author allowed both main characters to take turns and tell their part of the story.

The killer was so proud, being able to hide all their secrets for many years, but it seems like they are going down. And that means they have to take immediate action...

Once you start thinking you are invincible, you have made your first mistake.

I had a fun time devouring this book. Looking forward to the next one. 5 stars

Thank you
