A chillling thriller with lots of tense moments. Not to be missed. The author is very talented and knows how to get the reader’s attention from the very beginning. I highly recommend this book.

After some years writing stand-alone novels, Edwards revisits his “Magpies” universe with a very suspenseful book. The plot is as twisty as always and the characters are well built. Like the other volumes in the series, this one deals with normal, ordinary people in extraordinary circumstances. Ethan Dove and his family are reasonably happy when they meet their new neighbor Fiona, who may not be as perfect as she seems. This novel put me in a conundrum. I was definitely rooting for Ethan, who is just trying to be a good dad and fix his marriage, but I also didn’t want Fiona to get caught. Rooting for one meant rooting against the other and it made me conflicted. The fact that Ethan’s daughter shows aggressive tendencies adds another layer of suspense. The plot is tight and so easy to read that I couldn’t put it down. I’m usually not a fan of changing POV but in this case it works. I am also extremely happy that Edwards’ psychopaths seem to have a soft spot for animals. Another great read!

What a great book! I really enjoyed this book. I couldn’t put it down. The author has such a good writing style. This was a first for me by this author but will not be my last! I enjoyed the characters. They had good chemistry.

This is my first book by author Mark Edwards. The title drew my interest. This was a slow build as Fiona was making herself a regular in her new neighborhood. Fiona hides her feelings well and she decides her young neighbor Rose is like her and she decides to take her on as her mentor. When I got to the end I really was ready to see how this story could possibly end. And I must say I was not expecting what happened to happen. If you are interested in psychological thrillers this is one you shouldn't miss.

5 stars. Mark Edwards is a favorite author of mine. He did not disappoint with The Psychopath Next Door. This can easily be read as a stand alone book. In fact, I thought it WAS a stand alone book until the end where the author mentioned the Magpie series. I read that quite a while ago but do recall names and events. Anyway, Ethan and Emma Dove live in quiet suburbia with their children Rose and Dylan. Rose is 12 and Dylan is 15. A new neighbor moves in next door, Fiona. She is nice and so helpful. Fiona, though, has her eye on one of them. Actually 2 of them. Bad things begin to happen. Emma and Ethan had moved there to save their crumbling marriage, but it appears to be crumbling even more.

This book is fast paced. I loved it. No slow burn here. Every bit is packed with suspense, twists, and me longing for the book not to end. Well, end it did and what a fantastic ending. I seemed to be reading a lot of books lately where the ending just left me shaking my head. True book slump. This book took me out of the slump. I cannot wait to read more from him.

I may never trust anyone again after reading this book! WOW! Nail biting, edge of your seat, each suspenseful chapter after another! I will def be buying this one for my bookshelf. This was a 5 star read all the way!

A domestic thriller about a woman who moves next door to a young family and manages to integrate herself in with them. All manner of things go on as the woman becomes close with the daughter all the while plotting a diabolical scheme to get even with the people who she feels helped get her sent down. A great plot and also pace which kept me gripped throughout. Mark never disappoints. A great writer.

Mark Edwards rarely misses and The Psychopath Next Door is yet another example of that. Fiona is a woman in her late 30s who moves to a nice quiet area, next to a family with two teenage children. Rose is 12 years old and feels that she's too old for a babysitter but Fiona is all too keen to volunteer to hang out with her in a more informal setting. The book flips between Fiona's POV and Rose's dad who grows suspicion of this friendly new neighbour. Fiona's story tells us that she's recently been released from prison but it isn't clear what for. There's also a brilliant little easter egg in this book for fans of Mark Edwards other work!

This is such a thrill to read. I have been a fan of this autjor for so long now I look forward to his next novel and they cannot come quick enough.

The Dove family have a chance of a new start. They have been though the mill lately and when they meet their new neighbour Fiona they like her. But Fiona isn't at all what she seems.

This is a pacy and gripping read and I was hooked. I loved how the characters connected and the drama just kept on coming.

Another brilliant book from Mark Edwards. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and rate it as highly as The Magpies and Because She Loves me in terms of a tension filled read. I enjoyed the new characters and was pleased with the cameo appearances from characters from other books. Would always recommend all of Mark's books to anyone who enjoys reading psychological thrillers.

Mark Edwards is one of my favorite authors. I've loved his books for years. This one did not disappoint! Plenty of tension and creepiness as you slowly learn about the true nature of Fiona Smith. A very fast read and I had to slow down to enjoy it.

If you are looking for a book with a great plot and character development, this is it. I enjoyed the pacing of the story and never felt bored. I finished it quickly too because the way the author constructed the chapters you want to know what is going on with the characters.

The ending was perfect and wraps everything up nicely. I can’t wait to read more by the author in the future.

This book was hard to put down! It had “The Bad Seed” vibes which made it that much better to me as that is one of my favorites. The thought there are people out in the world with a total lack of feeling for anything or anyone is terrifying.
There are twists and turns along the way and things I was not expecting. I believe it was left open enough that we might see some of these characters again. 🤞🏻

Mark Edwards, always a must read author for me. The Magpies is one of my favourite thriller books and I loved having The Psychopath Next Door set in the same universe. If you are not familiar with these books, first of all what are you doing?? Second of all, never fear, this can be read as a stand-alone easily. Did love hearing the names and events from previous books come back into this one.

The Dove family have a new neighbour. Fiona seems lovely, charming and always willing to help. She takes an instant shine to daughter Rose and the feelings are mutual. But things have changed since Fiona moved in, bad things have happened on their quiet little street. Is it a coincidence or has Fiona got a hidden agenda? Read it and find out.

This was a super fast paced read and I did not want to put it down. It was fun, it was full of shocking twists and turns. The ending was perfect..I do hope for more Mr Edwards. Such an entertaining read that put a big smile on my face.

Fascinating characters and you really get a sense of disturbance as you get into Fiona’s head and her family terrifying plans .
Unpredictable and disturbing this has everything you need in a psychological thriller.

Well, this story sure lives up to its name! Fiona lives next to the Dove family who has recently moved in. She appears to be the perfect neighbor, sticking up for the teens Rose and Dylan when some neighbor kids start bullying them and she’s always friendly and helpful to the parents, Ethan and Emma. Since the story is told from multiple points of view, we know that she is a psychopath and has her sights set on Rose. No one thinks twice about how she wheedles her way into their lives, even when her idea of babysitting Rose involves watching horror movies and an outing to a taxidermy museum.

So you can see where this is going – Emma thinks she’s lovely, Ethan has a crush on her (because every man in a troubled marriage fantasizes about any woman who’s even semi-attractive and who flirts with him), Rose wants to spend all her time with her, and Dylan is the only one that notices something is off with her. Of course, when Ethan catches Dylan watching her intently, he assumes it’s because he’s a teenage boy and lusts after her (because that’s what Ethan does). But even after Dylan shares his concerns, Ethan is still in denial. Even though Rose has episodes in her past that worried both her parents. It’s all about whether they will wake up and realize the truth before she bonds too closely with Rose and brings her to the dark side.

I enjoyed the passages about the record shop Ethan runs, and when they were sifting through Iris’s collection. Fans will know exactly which Beatles vinyl they reference that’s worth tens of thousands of dollars, and it fits in perfectly with this story. I just wish Ethan wasn’t the clueless typical male character. The end of the story was not what I expected – I had hoped for a different twist that could have been less dark. But it’s certainly shocking and if you don’t think so, maybe you have more in common with Fiona than you think…!

Wow, what a great read, I finished it in one day. And for a nice change, the psychopath is a woman...
Just out of jail, young, good-looking and on a quest to punish people she feel caused her downfall, she ensnares the family next door and gets close enough to them to look after their young daughter. What a nightmare!

The Psychopath Next Door by Mark Edwards will grab you by the throat and not let you go til the last page! It's really gets dark as the psychopath gets greedy and starts to show her trilue colours and draws one of the next door neighbours deeper into her scheme. I'm glad she didn't live next door to me! You will not be able to put this down til you finish it!

This dark, twisty, unputdownable thriller was just the excitement I needed to lift my spirits on these dreary days. Edwards knows his crazy and this was one wild ride! I flew through the pages like a 90-yard pass, just waiting for that sweet catch. And imagine my surprise when the notorious Lucy Newton presented herself to me within the pages! I completely missed that this book is set in the Magpies realm. It was fun having her character back and it looks like we may possibly be seeing more of her in the future. I will be anxiously waiting for it, Mr. Edwards. Thank you for another amazing, bat-$hit crazy story! I loved every minute and think other readers will as well. I highly recommend!
