1941 Blitz in Plymouth leaves Pippa Luscombe injured when she’s hurt during a raid on the maternity hospital. She’s left shaken and her wrist broken. Pippa and fellow nurse and best friend Steph pick up the pieces and carry on.
On the wards a patient writes a poem to the butterfly girl but unbeknownst to Poppy this sets of a chain of events determined to derail her career and life.pippa and Steph struggle through the war years determined not to let Hitler win.
Brilliant storyline and well written. Once you start this saga you’ll be hooked from the beginning to end.

I loved this story, it’s my first read by Tania Crosse and I will definitely be reading more of this series. Wow, where to start! It was a very emotional book, full of deep sadness and distress but there is hope, love and the fighting spirit of a country at war. It’s a story of loss and love and a brave community trying to get through WW2 as best they can. This book was great its part of the Devonshire Sagas Series. I highly recommend it, very worthy of five stars.

Thank you to netgalley and Joffe Books for the ARC, it’s appreciated.

It was a sweet story about loss, love, resilience and courage. My opinion is that the book felt a little bit rushed at times, i wanted the author to go more into depth. The Main characters were very likeable. Overall a good read. Thank you to netgalley for letting me read this e arc in exchange for an honest opinion

Pippa Luscombe is enjoying her nurses training at the city hospital in Plymouth when it suddenly attacked during a raid on Plymouth. One minute she is ensuring her patients safety and the next she is slammed against a wall disappearing into the darkness. It is the support of close friend Steph Chappel that helps in Pippa’s recovery. Once back on the wards Pippa knuckles down to her studies in order to catch up on lost time. This only serves to draw unwelcome envy from a fellow nurse, Ruby Sandercock who proves to be a dangerous enemy.
While working on the maternity ward Pippa is accustomed to one patient, Beatrice Chollacott who has a brood of children. As the story progresses you discover that Bea has a heart as big as her family! As the Blitz continues to rain down on Plymouth there is more danger for Pippa which will change her life forever. Can’t praise this book enough, wonderful read, recommend.

I loved the strong friendship between Pippa and Steph, always there for each other. The descriptions throughout the book were great, made you feel in the moment, especially the mass graves, now that brought some tears. I found Archie annoying (he did redeem himself later). Norman just sounded like your typical younger sibling. Favourite character was Bea. Worthy of more than ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
