Enjoyable read with lots of stories from Brooke that make her points about aging and standing up for yourself. I felt that ultimately she was trying to get across to women of all ages to not let anyone tell you what you can't do, and be proud of your achievements.

Love Brooke but never knew much about her. This was a fantastic glimpse at her life and her aging in the public eye. As I approach my 40's this was a fresh reminder that aging is a privilege and to take it easy on ourselves.

I listen to the audiobook which is read by Brooke Shields. I think this is the best way to go, as you can really see her sarcasm and wit when she’s discussing things that be viewed in a different light than simply reading the written word. I like Brooke Shields - she’s witty, honest and humble. This book is for sure meant for women 40+, I do not think other demographics would really find the value in it. There were some parts of this that really hit home, but the later chapters when she was establishing her business felt a little disconnected.

I really enjoyed listening to Brooke Shields talk about her life and how it has changed as she ages. What I liked best: that she acknowledges that she does not intend to give advice, as her life and experiences may be very different than yours and mine. What she does instead is take a deep dive into relevant studies and statistics and talk to some experts, in order to understand what life is like for women over 40. She then shares her thoughts and experiences in a way that is informative and entertaining. Reading this on audiobook allowed me to feel as if she was speaking directly to me (and, let’s face it, as a skilled actress she is able to do this very well. She is also very funny). Some of her stories—mostly those involving medical professionals—are horrifying, but they serve as good reminders for women to not be afraid to speak up when something is wrong, ask questions of their doctors, and advocate for themselves. As a woman over 50 I 100 percent agree with her assessment that this stage of life allows for a lot more freedom, even if we are becoming largely invisible to much of society. However, I think that this is really only true of women who are financially secure. While Shields does acknowledge her privilege and her celebrity (and even how that can sometimes work against her), it is important to understand that some of what she experiences is true only for some. Overall, I found her book entertaining and I loved her upbeat and encouraging tone. Thanks to the author, the publisher, and NetGalley for the opportunity to provide an honest review of this audiobook.

Thank you for an advanced copy of this memoir by Brooke Shields on aging, women, relationships and so much more. I listened to the audio and I enjoyed Brooke's narration. She was down to earth, touching and heartfelt...and funny. I especially enjoyed the parts about her dealings with medical issues as a woman getting older. Lots for us women to relate to.....the hopeful nature of her story was inspiring.

Loved the genuineness, openness, and challenges Brooke has faced and overcomes in her own voice. If you grew up with Brooke Shields in the media and on tv/movies, you’ll likely enjoy this book.

Brooke Shields is an amazing narrator and I thoroughly enjoyed listening to her. Being nearly the same age as her, it was such a pleasure to hear her speak about aging women and all the similar experiences we share - the good and the ugly. She doesn’t hold back either- whether she’s discussing thinning hair or a slow sex drive, I thought it was from the heart and uncannily accurate. What a great title for a book club of various ages!

5 stars through and through from someone who is not even a Brooke Shields fan, which you don't need to be in order to enjoy this book and the narration - which she does superbly. This book was at the same time an eye opening and motivational experience. I love her giving her voice and voice to all the women at this stage in our lives validating our experiences and feelings.

OUT NOW!
Brooke Shields is NOT Allowed to Get Old by the Queen herself is a thought provoking, funny and emotional memoir.
Although I find myself probably not in the right audience I can appreciate everything she had to say as a woman. I found myself constantly thinking of my own mother , who probably is the right audience.
I would highly recommend this , this isn’t just a memoir of her life this is a book about motherhood , friendship and life.

This was a very good & well written book. We get a deeper dive into Brooke's life and how she has been treated, both in early days and when she got older. I still can't get over what happened to her when she went for a labia reduction! She is very candid about her life and she seems to be a very down to earth lady. I listened to the audio version of the book, and I very much liked Brooke's narration. I highly recommend this book to any woman, both young and old!

As a 54-year-old female, I appreciate a book that's geared toward women my age. Brooke did a very good job highlighting not only the trials that she's been through with "ageism", but she also gave sound advice and encouragement to those of us in this stage of life. There were many times I caught myself shaking my head in agreement, especially the part about becoming an empty nester and the wide range of emotions that come with it. Brooke has a soft, engaging voice that's nice to listen to, and she's funny too. There are some parts where you can detect an underlying bitterness in her tone, especially when it comes to men. I'm not a diehard feminist, but I do understand her point of view where some things are concerned. Overall, I'm glad I listened to her story, and I would recommend it.

I reall.y felt a connection with this book. It is always good to feel validated in your own feelings and Brooke Shields did a nice job providing support to those of us dealing with empty nests, menopause and the other struggles of being 50+. Brooke Shields was a good narrator. I always find it especially nice to listen to an author read their own books. If you are a woman in their 50s, don't miss this one!

I was surprised by how much I loved this book. It consists primarily of Brooke Shield’s reflections on life in middle age and is both relatable and inspirational.

"Aging is a journey full of contradictions."
I really loved this book! At age 59, Brooke opens up about what it's like to be a "woman of a certain age." She candidly talks about what it's like to age as a woman in the industry.
Brooke also makes solid points about things like how women aged 18-34 are the primary demographic, when the reality is that women over 40 are the ones with the most purchasing power. But we only get targeted ads for products like wrinkle creams. It's like society deems us irrelevant when we hit a certain age.
As a woman over 40 myself, I really appreciated her honesty and openness of discussing all the feelings around getting older - the bad and the good - like the confidence that comes with getting older!
This is not the kind of memoir where you need to be a fan to get into it. I honestly feel like every woman (and every man who wants to be supportive), should read this book. It's very informative and hits on a lot of relatable topics, while also being entertaining! I feel ready to embrace getting older after listening to this one!

Brooke Shields is allowed to get older and writes about it with grace, humor, and honesty. I listed to her share her stories and felt like I was sitting on the couch having girlfriend hour with her. She candidly talks about aging and embracing who we are becoming. Her vignettes had me laughing or nodding my head yes. I’m so glad she put her words into the universe. We can all learn a thing or two from her.

I have always been a fan of Brooke for as long as I can remember. I always had one Barbie named Brooke.
I enjoyed everything about Brooke’s book and story of her life. I related with her dreams of becoming a mother. I laughed a few times with some of her stories.
Brooke has some great messages for women and how u can at times loose urself as life goes on. Wear those fancy clothes!

Important topics covered that my friends and I discuss often, aging and worth as a female in our society. Some very interesting points in this book, but I didn’t find it entertaining and didn’t find myself reaching for it,

I think this is aimed toward women a little older than I am, but I appreciated her candidness and know this is an important story. I appreciate celebrities being as open and honest about aging as Brook Shields has been and I would recommend this audiobook.

I had a tough time with this one, but I think it's a me thing and not necessarily what's going to be general consensus about this book. Within the story about her lived experience based on gender- and age-related biases (I enjoyed this storytelling and learning more about things I didn't know previously), she included SO many studies, article sources, etc. to back her up (I did not enjoy this at all). After the first chapter, when I would hear "one study reports..." or "studies show" with data presented, it made me cringe even more. It came across as a reference paper like we all had to do in high school rather than memoir. That said, data lovers will like the mix, I believe!
