I was curious about this book and it was a plus for me that Brooke Shields narrated the audio book. What I didn’t expect was her observations of things like the invisibility of women once they pass a certain age. As a woman around her age, I was surprised at the shared experiences. I found her stories to be very interesting and entertaining. She is very funny. What I didn’t like were the shift into discussing statistics to support her points. Fortunately, it was just a small fraction of the book and the rest was enjoyable.
Thank you to the author, Macmillan Audio, and NetGalley for the Advanced
Listener Copy (ALC) copy of this book and I am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

4.5 stars rounded up. I really enjoyed this audiobook. It was quick-paced and interesting. I also liked that it managed to be a funny memoir but also educational and provide research and statistics at the same time without getting boring or feeling disjointed which is tricky to pull off. It both felt like listening to someone talk about their life and like a feel good feminist non-fiction read at the same time. I'm glad it was read by the author and found it easy to want to keep listening after each chapter ended.

This was an excellent audiobook. Brooke Shields is a natural at storytelling and conveying her insights on aging and what that means for her. The audiobook was super easy to listen to (I did at 1.5x) and really felt like the author was sharing her story directly with the reader. I love that Brooke continues to be an advocate for women and is willing to explore the areas of women’s health and lifestyle that many have not. 5 stars.

I listened to the audiobook, and it was narrated by Brooke Shields herself, which was excellent. I love a memoir read by the author, and she does a great job. Brooke Shields offers a candid perspective on mature womanhood, aging, and how society views women in these contexts. She uses her own life experiences to strengthen the narrative that women are systematically treated differently as they age. Parts of her story resonated with me, as a woman, and I think would resonate with many women over 40. While I think younger women could enjoy it, they might not have the same connection. I found her exploration of the healthcare system especially engaging. Frequently, medical professionals dictate how we should feel about our bodies, and when we question this, it is often dismissed as us being “difficult”. I found her experiences to be really interesting and empowering for all women. I would recommend this book to many of my friends over forty and suggest listening to the audio production.
Thank you to NetGalley for the audiobook to preview.

The target demographic for this book is women ages 40+. Brooke Shields breaks down stereotypes of aging in women and gives an honest account of her experiences with perimenopause and menopause. I think a lot of women readers over 40 will relate to this book, especially mothers who are recent empty nesters. Shields is an excellent storyteller and wove personal stories in with general facts about aging, which made the book both personal and informative. I enjoyed the audiobook and found Shields to be a great narrator. I know who Brooke Shields is, but I am not extremely familiar with her history. Now that I have finished this book, I would like to read some of her early memoirs to learn more about her experience of being in the spotlight since she was a baby. #BrookeShieldsIsNotAllowedtoGetOld #NetGalley

Brooke Shields did not disappoint. I have admired her throughout her career and her book truly reinforced my respect for her.
She portrays herself as a thoughtful, caring individual who is ready and willing to accept aging in a positive light. I especially like the title of the book which sort of says it all.
I especially enjoyed listening to her narrating her own book. It lent that air of authenticity and made it feel like Brooke was talking directly to you about herself. I felt a part of her. life experiences. Her openness and honesty showed throughout the pages, making it a genuine and empowering look at life. Well done!

“My whole life has been Brooke Brooke Brooke, and there’s been this image of me as larger than life, and to be honest it can be a lot. I get a little sick of me…”
I love Brooke Shields, always have - she seems like a smart, kind, normal-ish person in a business and spotlight that doesn't seem to always value that.
This book is a follow up to the excellent 2023 ‘Pretty Baby: Brooke Shields’ documentary about her early life, and I highly recommend that first.
In her new book with the best title ever, ‘Brooke Shields Is Not Allowed To Get Old’, the model and actor talks about aging, friendship, parenting, fame, and her career highs and lows.
These essays are charming and personal, sometimes veering too much into her extensive research to back it up, but even when the topics get heavier they are smartly and engagingly covered.
I had the audio of this book and highly recommend it; it is read by Brooke (we are on a first name basis now), and her skill as a comic actor is put to really good use, and I loved her new-to-me love of dropping a frequent F-bomb. She is great at this.
Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for an advance copy of this book. It publishes January 14th.

I love a celebrity memoir so when I saw Brooke Shields’s I was excited. I have seen her movies and how she’s been treated as a sex symbol over the years. I was interested to hear her account and her life story. She had handled things with grace and humor which was inspiring. I really enjoyed listening to her narrate and it felt like we were just having a conversation. I really enjoyed it!

Thank you @netgalley for sending me the audio of Brooke Shields' new memoir Brooke Shields is Not Allowed to Get Old: Thoughts on Aging as a Woman. Amazing!! Loved it.
And Brooke is doing all the shows today so that's an added bonus!!
When I was putting this post together song choices popped up and at first I was thinking
- Isn't She Lovely- because Brooke truly is.
But after listening to her book, this woman has survived so much with humility and humor- I just had to change that song! I'm pretty picky about memoirs and I can't stand it when celebrities give me medical or life advice. But Brooke shares information about her life that she has actually experienced and tells it all in a conversational way. Her anecdotes about women's health, motherhood, career, business and more are sure to entertain you. @brookeshields

"Brooke Shields is Not Allowed to Get Old" takes many of the topics women age 40+ are dealing with daily. Menopause, aging, feeling invisible, empty nesting - these are just a few of the things she discusses. She deftly uses statistics and real reporting to flesh out her own stories and those of other women around her age. It could also be called "Brooke Shields is a Normal Person". I found myself listening to the audiobook (which she narrates) and yelling "exactly!" out loud time and again. She gets personal, even on things most celebrities would be hesitant to reveal. Her storytelling is also a reminder of just how funny she is, which many may not realize. For me, this book felt like the validation I didn't know I needed.

As someone who is close in age and grew up watching Brooke Shields, I can appreciate everything about this new book. Health issues as we age, children going off to college, and of course, when to stop coloring our hair. I like how open Brooke is when talking about her surgeries and "TMI" situations that we can all relate to. It's nice to hear someone be so transparent.
I always love when the author narrates, so I highly recommend listening to the audiobook. Brooke has a voice that is so easy to listen to - like your friend is talking to you. Brooke Shields Is Not Allowed to Get Old is a must read/listen for anyone over 45!
Thank you NetGalley, Macmillan Audio, and Brooke Shields for providing an ARC in exchange for honest thoughts.
I gave this book 4 Stars

I had already ordered a signed copy of this book when NetGalley and Macmillan Audio chose to give me a preview copy in exchange for my honest review. I’ve read all of Shield’s books and they just keep getting better; this one was no exception. Part memoir, part self-help, this book was like chatting with a lifelong friend about aging, managing family, careers, health and of course becoming an older woman in this culture and how to optimize this phase of life. As always, Shields is straight-forward and tells it like it is. She has cited many additional sources within the book in case you want to go further. A word of caution for those who are offended by the F bomb—there are several. (They don’t bother me but I know some may be a bit put off.) As with Shields’ other works, she narrates her own audio book, which made the work even better. Despite her exceedingly long career, she still comes off as completely down to earth; the book really was like having a heart-to-heart with your bestie

A raw, sweet, funny, and honest portrayal of aging and “invisible woman syndrome.” How does one of the most beautiful and famous women in the world balance feeling the best and most confident she ever has with how society is seemingly dismissive of women in her age bracket? Shields lays it all out in this memoir.
If you get a chance to listen to the audiobook, please do! Brooke is such a great narrator and hearing her words, in her voice, gives so much life to her stories. She continues to be so inspiring. I smiled so many times while listening to it.
I will definitely be purchasing this book to keep on my shelf to remind my future self what a privilege and honor it is to age gracefully. Thriving doesn’t have an age or need to stop at a certain point!
Thank you to #NetGalley for a review copy of #BrookeShields #IsNotAllowedToGetOld. All feedback is my unbiased opinion, not paid, and simply for the love of books.

I always thought Brook Shields was awesome and admired how she spoke up for herself and what she’s gone through.
Well this book just continues to make me think that. Sharing some of the stories of what she’s gone through while aging under a microscope made me gasp while others made me laugh along with her.
I 100% agree that as we get older we don’t give a shit what others think of us or expect from us and it’s rather freeing. While I appreciate not having to age in Hollywood it’s good for all of us to hear real life aging stories from all women we admire so that we realize we don’t have to accept the ridiculousness of some requests we may get or how we are talked down too. This reiterated for me that in mid life we need to keep sharing and making space for other woman too because no one’s going to do it for us. We are strong but even stronger battling mid life together and showing how great it can be.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the audiobook arc. It was great to hear Brooke Shields tell her story.

I just listened to the book, Brooke Shields is not allowed to get Old, by Brooke Shields and narrated by the author. When I first started listening, I thought that this book was not for me, as I have worked in the Mental Health field for 40 years, and it seemed that Brooke was spouting advice that she had learned in her own therapy. But, as I continued to listen, it occurred to me that this was not the case. Ms. Shields makes a really good case for women "of a certain age". She has done her homework and researched this topic, and is quite knowledgeable, and her presentation is quite refreshing. She gives examples from her own experiences, both in her work as well as her personal life, and she is quite easy to listen to. Her stories about her experiences with the medical professionals are very real, and I have had similar experiences myself, in which I don't ask questions and then regret that I didn't check out a situation thoroughly before committing to a procedure. She certainly gives one food for thought, and I highly recommend this book to anyone that is interested in Brooke Shields, or just curious about what it's like to grow old in our culture. I would like to thank Netgalley and Macmillan Audio for giving me the opportunity to preview this audiobook in exchange for an honest review.

Brooke Shields, now 59, has written an insightful and heartfelt book sharing the life lessons she’s gathered over the years. While the book is primarily aimed at women around her age, it offers wisdom and relatable moments that can benefit women of all ages.
In it, Brooke covers a wide range of topics, from parenting and acting to navigating the challenges of aging. Her reflections are honest, empowering, and often deeply personal.
I listened to the audiobook version, which I absolutely loved. Brooke narrates it herself, making the experience feel like an intimate conversation with her. Her warm and engaging voice adds a special touch to the material. If you’re considering this book, I highly recommend the audio version for a more personal and immersive experience.

I really enjoyed this book! I loved how Brooke seems so down to earth and is just like one of us. She tells her stories and it’s just like listening to someone you know. She has through things just like we all have or will and tells us how she went through it. I highly recommend this book to those who are older and feel like no one will what they are going through.

I love listening to Brooke Shields, she has such a beautiful speaking voice. I also appreciate the topics that she brings up in this book. It is great for those who don't have a mother or motherly figure in their life. While there are life stages that she talks about the I haven't reached yet (menopause, empty nester, etc.), but I did enjoy hearing how it isn't as terrible as I have built it up to be. Thank you NetGalley for the advanced listen.

The topics discussed in this book are ones that every woman will face once in her lifetime. Brooke Sheilds has a fantastic way of viewing aging & how to cope with it moving forward. Her "I am woman, hear me speak" is a great philosophy for women everywhere. Even recommend this book to a few men, cause why can't they learn of our struggles too?
This book was fantastic.

4.5 stars! Brooke is a powerhouse in the industry but her book comes off so down to earth and normal! She has the experience and clout to be showy and know it all but her book is so relatable! She talked about her daughter going to college and how the pain of that slaps you upside the head. She addresses agism and how seems like soon as your ovaries stop producing people want to put you on a shelf and go to the next younger thing. I likes how she talks about how we aren’t done and we have so much more life and productivity!!
