My brain and emotions are a mess. I am really struggling with how to rate this book. On one hand it was so damn good and I was engrossed throughout yet on the other I had an inkling about the big secret early on and so the punchline just fell flat. I’m also a bit conflicted on my feelings and emotions aside from them being in turmoil, one thing this author always manages to do. I’ve read a few other books with a similar plot recently so I’m thinking that’s what had me even figuring things out. Going in blind and unaware would probably be best and make for a much more enjoyable read. From my position I have to admit Layana is a strong strong woman who loved with all her heart. I can admit I don’t think I’d go to the lengths she did but I can’t help but admire her tenacity, skills at subterfuge and smart mind that actually allowed her to process things without acting too rashly. I also think the bulk of the book was too lengthy especially when compared to how things resolved themselves so quickly once the cats out of the bag. My sucker of a heart though is so cheesily happy that we get a HEA, I was really on edge at some points thinking it wouldn’t be possible. Best part though for me was the epilogue, a brief interlude to let readers know all debts have been paid 😈😈😍 I’ve tried to keep this review as vague as possible because again, it’s one of those books you need to dive into blind. It’s like the “red wedding” episode that needs to be experienced first hand rather than rehashed or with spoilers. I definitely think the author killed it with her words by delivering a riveting and mind blowing read, one I can’t help but recommend.
