This was such a cute read! Jane, a former child actor turned studio exec, is a relatable mess trying to escape her past - and 'unlovable' issues. Her scheme to convince megastar Jack Quinlan (who she knew as an awkward teenager) to write a song for her film is pure chaos, and I loved every minute of it.
Dan, the annoying-but-endearing cinematographer, was a total highlight. Their banter is fantastic, and his family steals every scene they're in. Watching Jane let go of her "perfect" persona thanks to Dan and his family was heartwarming.
My only gripe -- the ending felt a bit forced.
Still, this book is like a warm hug and a witty rom-com all in one. 3.5 stars from me!

What an unexpected delight! I had very few preconceived notions going into this book but those I did have were primarily that it would be a fun, light romance. What I got was so much more than that.
Through the story of Jane and Dan working together to bring a script they both fell in love with to the big screen, Annabel Monnaghan weaves a poignant picture of becoming comfortable in your own skin and in turn loving and being loved by someone who truly sees and knows who you are. Including a big, dynamic family and lots of self discovery, I absolutely adored this book and highly recommend.
Many thanks to NetGalley and Penguin Group Putnam for an eARC in exchange for my honest review.

This was soooooo cute! I LOVED all the characters and the setting. It’s a perfect summer read.

I was so excited to get this ARC! I absolutely love Annabel Monaghan’s books. You go in thinking you’re getting a cute romance, but she always throws in so many emotions that you can’t help but feel everything right along with the characters. Her writing is so simple yet beautiful—it feels like you’re living the story yourself. I was hooked from the very beginning. 💕
A workplace rivals-to-lovers story is always such a fun read, and this one totally delivered. Annabel has this amazing way of creating characters with messy, complicated lives that still feel so real and relatable. Jane and Dan are no different—I loved their story from the adorable meet-cute to the forced proximity moments that had me grinning.
I can’t wait to grab a physical copy for my shelves and put it next to her other books. Do yourself a favor and pick this one up—you won’t regret it! ❤️
Big thanks to NetGalley and Penguin Group Putnam for the ARC in exchange for my honest thoughts.

I’ve read all of Annabel’s books and each one has been an amazing read! I enjoyed Jane & Dan’s story, but will admit I thought there would be more of a love triangle going on with Jack. Overall I thought the book was well-paced and the love story felt very genuine!

Thank you to Penguin Group Putnam for the ARC!
4 stars. Let’s just ignore how dumb it is for Jane to fall in love in a week because the book was still a pleasant read. It was lighthearted and that’s what I was looking for. I really love Annabel’s writing so I’ll be reaching for the physical copies of her books I’ve had on my bookshelf soon.

With her trademark heartfelt wit and character ARCs, Annabel Monaghan has brought you back to her worlds where even the toughest starts have happy endings. The characters were just as lovable as her others and will have you sad to say goodbye.

Thanks to NetGalley, the publisher and the author for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I just love Annabel’s writing and look forward to each new book she comes out with. Yet again, she did not disappoint! I loved Jane & Dan’s story in this fun enemies to lovers. The slow burn was well done. I loved their chemistry right away and all the banter. The books message itself was a sweet take on being true to yourself.

Annabel Monaghan is somewhat hit or miss for me, and somehow this book managed to be both at once. It was slow to get started, but then the middle kept me pretty engaged, and then it lost steam again towards the end. But overall, I still enjoyed it.
I’ve liked each of Monaghan’s books better than the last, so I had pretty high hopes for this one. It just had a bit too much angst and not enough fun banter for my taste. I feel like Monaghan’s writing style is sort of inconsistent, and I never know which version I’m going to get with her books. I’m still going to keep coming back to find out with each new release, though!
Thanks to NetGalley and Penguin Group Putnam for the ARC of this book!

I loved this one! Jane and Dan were chaotic, emotional, and hilarious. Jane was frustratingly stubborn in her thoughts about herself, rooted from childhood. A complicated relationship with mom and her inability to stop sabotaging herself lent itself to the story as she was able to learn about herself and let her hair down (literally, the curls!). I loved Dan’s family (and the ‘definitely fiction’ references from the author about her own family) and the love between his parents.
The ending was better than I anticipated.
The irony of this story is I was consistently picturing Jennette McCurdy and her character when “Janey Jakes” was referenced. In her acknowledgments, Annabel shouts out the inspiration! She nailed it.

4.5 rounded up for goodreads for this ARC. Annabel Monaghan has such a knack for writing introspective rom coms. It's a love story, sure, but it will also make you think twice about your own life and relationships of all shapes and sizes.

I have been on a rom-com kick and I really adored this book. I couldn’t put it down once I’d reached about the halfway point. It’s a Love Story touches on the issues of the ways we idealize love and the ways our identity and how we see ourselves affects our relationships. Real relationships only happen when we are our true selves with others and this book really highlights that. Really enjoyed it!

Another swoony romance from Annabel Monaghan. Jane is a perfectly flaw, insecure but doing her best heroine with a wonderful personal character arc in addition to the romance. Dan is a loveable and relatable artist and getting to meet him and his big, loud family was so fun - the side characters were as great as the main characters! Read if you enjoy enemies to lovers and forced proximity - this will make a perfect beach read. Thank you NetGalley and Putnam for the ARC.

Truly, this maybe your favorite "Love Story" of the year!
The character development was amazing. I felt like I understood the internal and emotional stuggles of both main characters so well. The author amazed me with her ability to turn the most unlikable character into someone I was rooting for. Not only forgiving curt behavior, but fully understanding and sympathizing with where it came from.
The supporting characters are true gems! Who wouldn't want these zaney, loud, lovable friends and famly. Monaghan portrays the messy and hard of family, while never letting you doubt that these same people all have the best of intentions.
The shared career objective added an extra layer of depth, creating more than just a will they/ won't they vibe romantically.
Thank you to NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for my honest review.

My favorite Annabel Monaghan novel to date. I really enjoyed this for so many reasons, but my main one would be that the rivals-to-lovers trope was executed very well. Both characters respected each other during the development of their romance, which felt natural and sweet; I liked the main characters a lot. Jane’s internal struggles dealing with abandonment, grief, job security, and even childhood stardom was realistic and made her a complex and compelling character to read about.
I had some gripes about Dan’s family, mainly with the strange dynamics of how openly his brothers would hit on Jane (one of his married brothers called her “hot” to her face?). Secondly, the timeline in which the relationship formed was much too quick. The romance and banter was so good, though, that I honestly didn’t mind them.
Thank you to NetGalley, Penguin Group Putnam, and Annabel Monaghan for the opportunity to read this book.

It’s A Love Story by Annabel Monaghan is a very cute read! This is the second book I’ve read by Annabel Monaghan and I’m such a huge fan of her work. This book is about Jane who wants to bring a really good love story script into a movie but she needs to make it commercial enough to get it green lit. In her meeting with her boss and co-worker Dan that she low key despises she blurts out that she knows singer writer Jack Quinlan and that he would most likely be able to include a hit song into the movie. Jane and Dan go on an adventure to track down Jack in Long Island where Dan and his family is from. The more Jane gets to know Dan and his family she starts to realize that he’s not so bad and maybe she can have a love story herself. I definitely recommend this book and it’s a 5 star rating! Thank You NetGalley and Penguin Group Putnam for this ARC. Publishing date of May 27, 2025.

Jane Jackson is still trying to escape the dorky, butt of every joke image that she has been stuck with since being a teen sitcom star. Now, as a studio executive, she has found the perfect way to gain success - get popstar Jack Quinlan to write a song for a movie she desperately wants to be made. Jane is sure she can convince him.. they sang together, and even kissed once, when they were kids! The big issue is that in order to find Jack, Jane has to rely on the biggest threat to her career, her work rival Dan Finnegan.
I absolutely adore this book! The wait until May is going to brutal, as I've talked this book up so much to friends who can not wait to read it! The book is so well written and I was hooked from the very beginning. Personal preference, but a certain third act trope led to me not giving the full five stars.
Jane is very relatable. Her overanalysis and inability to form coherent thoughts around attractive men is spot on. I too, find myself coming up with the most hilarious comebacks when I'm not actually trying. I'm a big fan of found family, and (without giving too much away) there is a scene where Jane allows someone to unexpectedly take on a familial role.. I was sobbing. Monaghan has truly made a hand-on-your-heart love story.
Thank you so much to NetGalley and Penguin Group Putnam for the eARC!

This book was good. I loved it. It’s going to be the perfect summer read.
Like her other books the storyline is so much more than just romance. When it came to the romance I was smiling the whole time reading.
I loved the found family in this and how they helped the FMC open up and realize what she wanted.

Thanks to NetGalley and Putnam Books for the arc of It’s A Love Story by Annabel Monaghan, set to release on May 27th.
I have read all of Monaghan’s other books and have loved them all. This is a perfect gourmet cheeseburger of a romance book- there’s some depth- enough- to make the reader address tough topics, but it is also light and funny. This is classic enemies to lovers… the tension between the characters was so good, and the plot was very compelling. Let’s just say I stayed up too late reading this.
