I wish I was on the beach and reading this book with the sun heating my skin and the sound of the waves in the background.
The Last Sunrise is an emotional, beautifully written book. The way Anna Todd tackled mental health in this book was amazing. She showed us the ugly side of it but in a very compassionate way. It was great to see a mental health rep in the MMC.
This book was all about first love and finding yourself. The MFC found her voice and made decisions about her own body and health.
And can we just take a moment to talk about the imagery? I felt like I was in Mallorca walking the beach with the waves lapping at my feet. I feel the ocean breeze and hear the cry of the seagulls.
The Last Sunrise is the best kind of summer read we all need to experience!
Thank you Netgalley for the ARC read.

This is an angsty summer romance! Ry and Julián have a major enemies to lovers vibe with great banter. Ry is just here for the summer, and I loved anxiety that loomed as it was nearing her time to return home.

Oriah (Ry) is relocated to Majorca following her Mum and her work, she starts up a summer fling on the island with Julian.
Ry has disability rep and Julian has mental health rep. Overall the story was quick and simple. The start of the book felt like I was reading a sequel, it was hard to connect with the characters. I didn’t even know what was wrong with Ry for a while!
It had a really good premise to be fun, it just wasn’t for me.

I’m going to preface this review by saying that I have been a fan of Anna Todd since After was fan fiction. Granted, that was when I was a teenager, and romance writing and books have come a long way for me since those days.
I was really excited for this release because 1) it’s Anna Todd, duh, 2) I liked the idea of the book being set in Mallorca, Spain, and 3) I liked the representation and diversity that it brought to the genre. Our MMC is Spanish, the FMC is the American daughter of a Spanish immigrant, the MMC portrays mental health challenges, and the FMC is chronically ill. Despite this, I was hoping for a light and breezy turn-off-my-brain kind of romance, but this was not that for me.
From the first time we’re introduced to the MMC, he screams red flag and someone I would NOT want to leave my drink unattended around. He gives off creepy and predatory energy, and I think some aspects of this remain to the end of the book despite personal struggles that are later revealed to us.
I also struggled to connect with the FMC. She felt entitled, whiny, and like all she wanted to do was “get back at Mommy” for the entire book. The medical aspect of this felt very “Everything Everything” by Nicola Yoon, and I was rolling my eyes at both the immaturity of Oriah )and also at the entire story).
There were some lines in this book that I really liked, and they usually had something to do with the way Todd would relate something happening in the book to a sunrise. I also enjoyed the way this was an overall theme throughout the book and tied into the title.
I absolutely HATED the “twist” at the end of the book. I think that it was a violation of medical consent and that it would be a walking talking LAWSUIT if this was real life- medical malpractice is NOT a joke and neither is disrespecting people’s wishes when it comes to their medical care. I think that this was written in extremely bad taste.
Also- the spice in this book didn’t anatomically make sense at times, and the phrase “x minutes or x hours could have passed, she wasn’t sure” could NOT have been used ANY more times- please come up with a new line to document the progression of time!!!!
I’m sure that there will be a generous amount of readers who can enjoy this book and get past these things, but I am not one of them unfortunately.

“I love him so much it hurts. It might kill me, but he’s worth my last breath.”
Coming of age, summer romance set in Majorca? Yes pls.
It’s been a while since I’ve read an Anna Todd book so this was such a lovely experience 🥹
This story follows 22 year old Ry, whose mother brings her along to Majorca for business. Ry has lived a sheltered life, dealing with chronic health issues and an overprotective mother. This trip is her opportunity to regain a bit of freedom and she’s ready to finally start living her life.
On her solo adventures, she encounters Julián, an arrogant but charming local. The tension between them sizzles from the beginning as they fight with each other and against their growing attraction. But they both have secrets from their pasts and presents.
These “enemies” fall fast and hard for one another. I’m a big believer in “when you know, you know,” so this trope made me kick my feet a little🥹 Ry and Julián have undeniable chemistry and, being from vastly different worlds, teach each other things about themselves.
It felt like I was watching a movie play out in my head with the visuals of the beach and the Spanish street markets. I just adored the European summer setting and I felt like I was right there with them!
The side characters really round out this book with their own sub plots developing throughout. I love reading about female friendships and Ry finds a beautiful friendship in Amara. These two are girl’s girls and I was living for their chats!
This book covers some serious topics including mental health and chronic health issues, as well as strained familial relationships. All are handled with the utmost care and had my bawling my eyes out 🥺
I really loved this book and would definitely recommend if you’re looking for:

I loved the After series, so I was excited for this one. Unfortunately it fell flat for me, felt very dry and I couldn’t get into it. Other people might love it, it just wasn’t for me.

Thank you hambright and galleybooks for my first Anna Todd read!
It was a little slow to start but once it hit it hit! I didn't think I was going to cry but the ending hit me hard. I enjoyed the character development overall. You never know what life will bring and where you might be when it happens. Sometimes it's too late to make a change you've had everyday to do. But you can! What a beautiful story overall.
Sometimes it takes a major event for people to wake up and smell the sea breeze. I truly thought this wasn't going to end in an HEA, and I kinda got the feeling there's more from the epilogue. We shall see!
"Promise me, keep watching the sunrise"- 😭

The Last Sunrise is my first book by Anna Todd and I absolutely smitten. I don't think I love anything more than a cute coastal setting and a summer romance. It's 10/10, absolutely loved!
The story told us about Oriah been moved to Majorca due to her mom's job placement. She decided to explore her potential freedom but she has some health issues (no spoilers).
During her adventures she meets Julian who is rather infuriating in the beginning! But he dares and inspires her to embrace and be overwhelmed by this possibly last summer.
And of course they found their first love.
The book is so heartwarming, so sweet, sunny, cozy, fun. Banter, adventures and mischief are fantastic. And also very, very emotional story!
I recommend it to each and everyone! I will absolutely make a re-read in the summer at the seaside!

I wish I could curl up on the beach and read this one again with the sound of waves, sand between my toes, and the actual sunrise as my backdrop.
The Last Sunrise is a beautiful, emotional story that truly surprised me in the best way. Mental health plays a big role here and it’s handled with so much care and honesty. That alone made me fall in love with this book—but the setting, the romance, the quotes that made me pause and reread? All of it sealed the deal.
This book is about first love, finding your voice, and finally choosing yourself. I first became an Anna Todd fan during the After series, and this story reminds me why I keep coming back to her writing.
Also: can we talk about the ocean imagery? I’m a sucker for any story with a coastal setting, and Anna paints it so vividly you’ll want to book a flight to Majorca immediately.
The Last Sunrise is the kind of summer read you finish with a full heart and a sun-kissed smile. I’ll be rereading this one again and again.
The Last Sunrise releases May 6th.
Thank you NetGalley and Gallery Books for an arc of this book. All opinions are my own.

(4.5 Stars)
Oriah “Ry” Pera is upset that her mom is being relocated to Majorca but then sees her chance to get some freedom. It’s risky for her to go alone as she is sheltered because of her health condition but she goes. That’s where she meets the dashing yet infuriating Julián Garcia. They might not of hit it off in the beginning but together he shows her how to enjoy this possible last summer in Spain. This took a second to get into but then it was an enjoyable read and the their banter is great. Adventure, first love, heartache all emerge in this coming of age emotional summer romance with a few twists. Oh have a few tissues ready too! Told mainly in Oriah’s POV with a few chapters in Julián’s.

I have been a fan of Anna Todd since the good old days of Wattpad. Her writing and ability to tell a story is just so beautiful.

I absolutely loved the After series so I was really hoping to like this one. I think my issue was I had high expectations. The book was good but just not what I thought it was gonna be.
This has nothing to do with the book, but I loved seeing Jungkook in the playlist. It made my fangirl heart so happy.

Overall 3 ⭐️ but I will say this took me a lot longer to get into than most stories. When I read the synopsis I was really excited for Oriah’s journey to find herself and find love in Mallorca, but for some reason I never really felt super connected to the characters. In the end I did love the love that Julián and Ry had for one another, however I felt like it was a really abrupt jump from them meeting to being in love. On the whole though, a good summer read.
Thank you Anna, Gallery Books and NetGalley for the ARC!

Boy oh boy do I love all of Anna's writing. I loved the characters, and the story. I can't wait for this book to come out so I can read it again in physical format and annotate my heart out!! I loved this book so much. Im sad I will never read this book again for the first time again. It was just so good. I will defiantly be recommending this book to all my book friends!

I don't know how Anna Todd does it. But despite the less than stellar writing style I am always entranced by the story.
This story is told mostly from the FMC POV. Oriah has a condition that could end her life at anytime and despite her life in and out of hospitals, she is determined to experience the beauty of the island her mom came from and live. Her mom is a closed book and Oriah is grasping at anything to find out more about her heritage and her mother. Her mom is a workaholic and has a job setting up and keeping a deal at her homeland. She brings her daughter along with the intention of showing her how great the island is but ends up too engrossed in work. Julian is born and raised in Spain and is constantly trying to protect his land and his family business. Oriah and Julian keep crossing paths and develop a bit of an insta love connection. But her condition and his mental illness are keeping each other at arms length.
Oriah is finally living her life and standing up to her mom. She got on my nerves a bit but for the most part she's a pretty strong character. I couldn't understand Julian sometimes because he would just switch up so fast. Once I learned what his issue was I started to sympathize. I also know what struggle is like so the constant need to be alone pulled at my heartstrings. They both tried so hard for each other and tried to keep each other accountable. I could feel their need for the other. The last few chapters were heartbreaking and I was so nervous that it wasn't going to end with a true HEA.
Once we got to the end we were able to see things from Julian's POV and it hurt. He loved her so much and he fought so hard for her. He had to deal with that while also battling his mental illness at the same time.
We also got the answers to why her mom basically cut off her old life and why Julian's dad never moved on. The epilogue was so fucking cute. A year later and I think I was actually giggling and kicking my feet from the giddiness. Those two can never leave each other. EVER. I won't accept it.
I absolutely loved this book. Her writing style may not be my favorite which is the reason for the 4 instead of 5 stars but she laces her storylines with crack. I'm sure of it.
Thank you Netgalley for the ARC!

✨BOOK REVIEW✨
The Last Sunrise by Anna Todd
Oriah travels with her mom to spend the summer in Majorca. Her mom has business here and Oriah (Ry) is dealing with some health stuff and is hoping to escape. Ry instantly becomes friends with a woman who is working at the hotel where they’re staying, which is eventually how she meets Julian. There’s a tiny bit of enemies to lovers at play here but I don’t want to say too much. I think this would be a great book to go into blind and see where the adventure takes you!
This reminded me a lot of a Paige Toon novel which is the highest compliment coming from me! I think what I loved most about it was the rich detail of the setting in Spain. Todd truly painted the perfect picture and I felt like I was spending my summer on the streets of Majorca, walking everywhere, spending my day in the sun on a fishing boat, and visiting the farmers market every chance I got. Sign me up! But this story was much more than that — the characters were so fleshed out and real to me.
Read if you love:
-emotional reads
-dual POV
-Spain setting
-summer fling turned serious
-complicated family dynamics
-chronic illness
-coming of age
I definitely want to read more from this author! I thought the writing was top notch. OUT MAY 6th! Thank you to netgalley and the publisher for allowing me to be an early reader :)
5⭐️

This was my first Anna Todd novel, and I was pleasantly surprised.
The first half of the book kind of dragged for me and took a while to really connect with the characters. The last 30% of The Last Sunrise just took this book from a 3-star rating to a high 4 star. To those who struggle with reading - I say stick to it, you will not be disappointed.
I literally cried tears at a couple of parts.
Oriah or Ry and her workaholic mother take a planned summer trip to the shores of the Mediterranean Sea. Ry wants to try to connect with her mother and learn more about her family's past, but her mother is trying to close a big work deal, so she's unavailable, which is nothing new to Oriah.
Ry goes off exploring when she meets Julian, a local fisherman. The two have an instant connection and decide to spend the summer creating memories and having fun. As they spend more and more time together, their feelings for each other grow. Oriah and Julian are young adults, both dealing with chronic issues. Their age reflects why they aren't great at communicating with each other, which, let's face it, a lot of pointless disagreements and issues can be dealt with if people are more open to communicating with each other.
This book is beautifully written. I can hear and taste the salt of the ocean waves while reading. I can imagine myself walking alongside Ry and Julian as they stroll along the shore.
I felt the love, the angst, and the sadness of the characters.
There is no cheating or a third act breakup in this story.
Anna Todd does an amazing job showcasing with words how life feels when living with chronic illness and mental health struggles.
I highly recommend The Last Sunrise by Anna Todd. It will truly have you pondering about life and what truly matters before life ends.

Anna always paints such a vivid canvas for us with her beautifully written details.
The Last Sunrise is a story about family, how our pasts can affect our future, to learn from our mistakes, and to always live life to the fullest because you never know when it'll be your Last Sunrise.
The reason for the 4 stars (and not 5) was only because there were quite a few times when the dialogue was only in Spanish and was difficult to decipher.
This book does contain triggers such as mental and medical health so proceed with caution.
Thank you to Anna Todd, Gallery Books, and Netgalley for this ARC!

I LOVED the after series, and they were thick books and I love a really long book. This one was not the same and it did take me a bit to get into it but it was good. The pacing dragged, and I felt zero connection to the characters early on. Important plot points came way too late, which didn’t help. But once I pushed through? It got better. If you're looking for another cookie-cutter romance, keep moving. But if you want a story that treats love, illness, and self-discovery with equal parts heart and honesty, The Last Sunrise is your next read.

This was an enjoyable read. Poor Oriah and her horrible disease. Julien was such a sweet character, for the most part. It was nice to see Oriah’s mom finally find happiness. A nice HEA for all.
