My second book by Joanne and another good thriller! This book really got me thinking about the characters, how looks can be deceiving or how you think you know someone but you don't really.

I felt sorry for Megan at first but wasn't sure it was warranted as the story progressed. The car accident at the start gets you into the action from the first chapter and I wondered why Rick and Megan were speeding during a thunderstorm and nearby a swollen river but all is explained.

I like books with not a lot of characters and this one has a handful which is great. I did like Elaine but felt she could be a bit overbearing if she was my friend although her heart is in the right place.

Well worth a read and the twist was great!

The Sister in Law by Joanne Ryan felt like a family drama with good secrets and an unexpected ending.

The story is presented in the present and just from two points of view so easy to follow. The chapters go one by one between Megan and Emily, and some moments feel too repetitive. I do get that it was necessary to learn both characters and individual characteristic traits but still.
Some secrets (I would not necessarily call the twists) came out as a good surprise and I absolutely loved the end twist, which was like a cherry on top of the cake.

When Megan wakes up in the hospital after the car crash she finds out that her husband Rick is dead. At Rick's funeral, Megan meets Emily, a long-lost Rick's sister who is heavily pregnant. Megan's dead mother’s best friend, Elaine is there to support but she doesn't like Emily. Despite anything, Megan will invite Emily to move in... Can they trust each other?

It's fast-paced in general but repetitive sides slow it down a bit.
I love how much we learn about Emily and her personality! She is one of those characters you want to hate but there is something about her that you want to love.

I found this to be a very entertaining and easy to read book, the pages just flew past!
The story is narrated to us mostly from the points of view of Megan and Emily, each alternating chapters as we read their story and version of events. The story is interesting as there are many clues to things going on beneath the surface of what we are reading and that ending, when it came was everything I was hoping for and so much more as well which made it just a touch jaw dropping when all was revealed!
The characters were mostly likeable or at least understandable, similar to people that most of us will know or know of and the stories that weave around them were interesting especially how they all knitted together to create this very bingeable book!

I enjoyed The-Sistet-in-Law, starting with a tragic accident but as the story continues and you get to know more from the two main POV'S Megan and Emily.
The twists towards the end was a complete surprise.
A thoroughly enjoyable book.

Loved the twists! You think you know, but you don't! I thought I had it partly figured out, but then a twist. I was like okay, now I know, and boom, another twist. Would definitely read more by this author.

An enjoyable thriller when we meet Megan, recently widow, upon a car accident where her husband Rick dies.
She is all alone, except for her late’s mother friend who vowed to always take care of her.
At the funeral she thinks a familiar face appears, this turns to be Rick’s sister, someone she never met, as the two siblings weren’t close.
After the encounter they begun to hang out, every day a little closer, but the question is: Can Megan trust this stranger?
We learn the story through each of the character’s point of view.
Recommended for thriller readers who enjoyed an unexpected ending.

A slow start that ends with an unpredicting ending.

I had not see the ending coming at all.

It was so well written, it has me gripping about 35% of the book.

I found this more melancholy than mysterious and it made it difficult for me to get into and I just didn't believe the characters. Thanks for the chance to read and review.

From the beginning, I knew something was off about Megan. The author did a great job of hooking the reader in the first part of the book. When I got finished reading the first chapter I thought I would be hooked. The alternating POVs really drove me crazy because I felt it was the same story being told even though it was two different POVs. The whole sister thing.. Come on now, something was fishy about that.

The rest of the book was a little boring and then the ending. THAT gets a whole star in itself. WHAT?? I mean literally out of the blue, slap you in the face type of surprise, that you knew the whole time but didn't want to admit to yourself that you may be right.

The book was decent, and I want to thank Netgalley and Boldwood Books for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Brilliant and clever. I thought I'd guessed the end early on..but no...there can be more than 1 ending if the writer is super talentedand Joanne Ryan nailed it.

This was the perfect thriller to get me out of the slump that a recent literary fiction threw me deep into.

It’s a fun fast paced thriller re: a woman who’s husband recently died in a tragic car accident, and the woman who’s befriended her who’s pretending to be her ex’s long lost sister- but she’s actually the secret lover of the dead husband. And she’s pregnant with his child.

What a fun ride!

When Megan loses her husband Rick in an unfortunate car accident she is lost and beside herself with grief. But when Ricks estranged sister Emily shows up at his wake, visibly pregnant and with no where to stay, Megan opens up her home to her sister in law. Having someone around the house to focus on helps Megan cope at first, but after a while it seems like Emily is starting to overstay her welcome. I thought the book was a good quick read and I loved reading from each characters perspectives as the story progressed. The ending certainly packed a punch too.

Well this was quite a twisted read about a young woman who turns up to a funeral and claims she is the long lost sister of the diseased. Only problem is she’s actually his heavily pregnant mistress and is there because she wants a slice of his estate and will play dirty to get it. As she gets closer to his widow she is invited to stay for awhile and as she settles in she knows she will do what it takes to get what is hers no matter what the cost. A great read that I couldn’t put down!

This book was a decent and entertaining psychological thriller with some suspense and drama mixed in.

It begins with an ancient where a car plunges into the river, leaving Megan, our MFC, a widow. While at her husband's funeral, she meets a heavily pregnant woman who claims to be her estranged sister in law Emily. She explains to Megan that she has nowhere to go, and this prompts her to invite Emily to move in.

After all, she's family. Right?

Told in alternating POV, Ryan has the ability to keep the reader engaged in the storyline by adding layers, depth, and intrigue to Megan and Emily's stories.

The pacing is gradual as she carefully reveals tidbits of information that will have you questioning everyone's motives.

I would say that there are some good twists in the book, some of which I saw coming, but others were definitely surprising.

My one fault in this book is that I found the narrative a bit repetitive with different people rehashing the same story, so I found myself skimming past these pages.

Her novel The Sister-in-Law kept me intrigued for the night while I delved into the psychological thriller told by multiple POV. Each character came with their flaws making them perfect for this mystery. Twists and turns down to the last chapter.

I really enjoyed reading The Sister-In-Law. This is a quick read but lots of goings on. .Megan has just lost her husband and meets his estranged sister for the first time at the funeral. She invites her to stay with her and from there things start to go wrong. There are twists and turns along the way but the big jolt is the ending .
This is a great read and one I will recommend .

I enjoyed this easy, quick, mysterious read by Joanne Ryan. The Sister-In-Law is about a young, newly widowed woman named Megan who had already suffered more grief than someone her age should have suffered. Living alone in the large home she used to share with her mom and Rick, her husband, Megan found herself trying to go through the motions of a wake and a funeral so she could find her new normal as a grieving widow.

However, at the funeral, Megan meets Rick’s estranged sister, Emily, who is pregnant, and has found herself in trouble and looking for a new start, not to mention grieving the brother she now wouldn’t be able to know again.

Having pity on Emily, Megan moves Emily into her home as she begins her new normal. But, is Emily really there to know her brother’s wife and start again, or does she have deeper secrets?

While this was a quick and easy read, it didn’t have me on the edge of my seat throughout. By the end though, there were some twists and turns that had me surprised and satisfied.

This book is an easy read with a straightforward storyline, told from the perspectives of two characters: Megan and Emily. Megan has just suffered the tragic loss of her husband, Rick, and at his funeral, Emily unexpectedly appears, claiming to be his long-lost sister. I found both MCs to be awful. Megan too trusting with a lack of attention to detail … Emily a narcissistic, self-absorbed liar. While the premise had great potential, I found myself a bit disappointed. Typically, I enjoy books told from multiple points of view, but in this case, I felt the narrative became repetitive towards the end. The shifts between Megan and Emily’s perspectives often felt like I was reading the same scenes over again, with little variation in detail. It sometimes dragged and made the story feel slower than it should have.

Although the twists were unexpected, they didn’t hit as hard as I thought they would. The plot and characters were compelling, and the book had a strong start that really drew me in. But as the story progressed, I found myself hoping for more depth, especially with how promising it seemed in the beginning. That said, there was still plenty of suspense and drama to keep me hooked! The twists kept coming, and the final one genuinely surprised me. It wasn’t the ending I expected, but it was a satisfying one.

Overall, this was an entertaining thriller that kept me engaged from start to finish. Despite a few disappointments, I still found it to be an enjoyable read.
