Copywriting is everywhere, people either have to read what is written, or be the ones that write it. Though I am not a copywriter in the traditional sense, part of my work involves writing copy, so this book caught my attention. To me, copywriting is not a straight-forward process because it requires putting aside personal ideas about what I want to read and thinking about what someone else wants to read. The Complete Copywriter takes a step toward helping with that problem. It addresses what a copywriter does and how to go about getting your mindset ready for each task. It also has a section for thinking about the reader and what he or she is going to want to know.

Even if writing copy is just a small part of what you do, this book can benefit you and help you improve. It is easy to understand and covers pretty much everything you need to know regardless of where you are at in being a copywriter. It is beneficial for people who are just starting and for those who need to refresh their outlook on the skill.

Woah, this book. I love copywriting. I love the power it lets the writer wield in business, but this is a tome! It really does try to be the end stop resource for copywriting. That does make a bit much to read through casually, but that isn't an issue because it becomes something you can reference indefinitely. I took notes and will continue to take notes. I don't think I could learn everything when it comes to copywriting, but this sure gets me closer. 4.7!

The Complete Copywriter - Create marketing copy that works by Alan Barker.

I am a freelance designer looking to increase my website's visibility to attract new clients. This book has inspired me to create content more strategically and to ensure my brand voice remains consistent—ideas I already recommend to my design clients.

When designing posters, ads, or email direct marketing (EDM) materials, design hierarchy is crucial. Headlines and subject lines not only draw readers in but also help them understand the content while stimulating curiosity. Design and copy should work together harmoniously rather than compete for attention.

Barker emphasises that you don't need to read The Complete Copywriter from beginning to end in a linear fashion; it is designed to be referenced as needed when you're unsure how to proceed.

The Complete Copywriter is an excellent resource for anyone involved in writing copy, including those who work with copywriters. It covers essential topics such as the fundamentals of writing, understanding how copy works, planning your copy effectively, writing for a specific audience, and developing a content strategy that includes SEO. Whether you write professionally or incorporate copy into design mock-ups, like I do, this book is an invaluable guide.

Many of the exercises and tips can be implemented to other types of writing, marketing, creativity and sometimes, mindfulness.
