This is an emotional read. You move back, and forward in chapters.. It is a very moving story. I really enjoyed it. It is set mainly in Paris. Hard to review but a great book to begin 2025. Read it. A neat ending . I loved it

I'm a huge fan of Gillian Harvery's work and was excited to read this one. No spoilers, but the book is told through multiple timelines that took me a little bit to get used to, and I'll admit that I didn't see the tragic twist coming at all; crept up on me slowly.

The story drew me in from the start, and I read this in one day, page-turning to find out what happened. A story of love, friendship, heartbreak and healing with Paris as an intermittent backdrop - what's not to love?

This was a beautifully done novel and had that element that I was looking for and enjoyed the getaway element to this. The concept was everything that I wanted and enjoyed in this genre. Gillian Harvey has a strong writing style and was glad I got to read this.

Beautiful love story🗼💏

4.5🌟 stars
Though there's more than a small degree of tragedy and sadness, I was captivated by Tom and Sophie's love story. The fact that it keeps returning them to Paris just made it that much better.

Author Gillian Harvey uses frequent switches through various times, and eventually covering the night they met in Cambridge through 2024, over a decade later. I found Sophie's discomfort about their different family backgrounds, with Tom from a privileged family and hers a much more modest upbringing, quite realistic. This is a couple who, on initial appearance, even their close friends and family found an unlikely match. But their story is so poignant. I loved it!

For me, a chronological telling might have come across just as powerfully and more straightforward. The format here lends to suspense, though, as the hints build that something's coming to destroy their happiness. It kept me waiting for the shoe to drop, which was not a bad thing, just a bit frustrating.

Recommended.

This was so much more emotional than I thought it was going to be! I expected a lighthearted romance, but instead it was heavy hitting. It deals with topics like grief and infertility. While I enjoyed the story and the characters, I wish the heaviness was made clear beforehand. It now took me by surprise in a way that I didn't enjoy the reading experience as much as I know I would've had I had known this beforehand.

This book brings up a barrage of emotions as Soph and Tom experience such a great love as evidenced by their every year going to Paris and meet at midnight at a bridge of which Tom.revealed his vulnerable self and showed the true live that each had for each other. Tom really celebrated life and found joy in experiences both large and small. It is terrible what he had to go through and the repercussions and emotional impact and despair that all he left behind. What I found beautiful as how he never left her behind as shown him whispering in her ear or part of pictures with his great smile. He would never have wanted Soph to stop living and with the help of her family and friends that she could move forward. A part of him will always be there but she deserves love. Her and Will became a stronger couple because of it. A beautiful story.

Midnight in Paris by Gillian Harvey is a deeply emotional and poignant exploration of love, loss, and second chances, set against the enchanting backdrop of Paris. The book has a multi-timeline structure, which I did find a little confusing in places. The story intertwines Sophie and Tom’s past, and trips to Paris with her journey toward healing, tackling themes like grief, infertility, and resilience. I hadn't read any synopsis prior to reading and I was quite surprised at the direction of the story, the twists and how moving it was. The characters had real emotional depth making this a teary read in places. Very much enjoyed this book and look forward to more from Gillian Harvey. Thanks to Netgalley for the advanced copy.

Gillian Harvey is one of my favourite authors and I love everything about their books and how they transport you to beautiful settings. I was especially looking forward to reading this one as it featured Paris in the title. Midnight in Paris has a slightly different slant to this authors previous books but this doesn’t detract from just how good it is.

This was the most beautiful poignant read that took me on an emotional rollercoaster and covered a lot of sensitive and hard hitting issues along the way.

This is definitely up there in the list of my top reads for this year.

Oh my goodness, Gillian Havey! What are you doing to me?
I've always loved the author's books, especially the stories set in France, but this was something else. Not as light hearted, but as much of a good read as the others, if not more.
The emotional rollercoaster I went on as I read was unbelievable.
Tom and Sophie have a place in Paris that has become their place, and they have visited it over the years. This last visit is so poignant, and its reason is heart-wrenching. I shall give nothing away, but I was in bits.
It is a more serious tale, detailing hard-hitting issues, but in a nuanced, sensitive way.
A true page-turner of a book, I loved it.
I think it's my favourite so far!

I'm conflicted about this one. The different timelines are interesting, and there's certainly a deep story here, but it's sad and touches on difficult themes. I think you really need to be in the right mood for this.
Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for access to this eARC.

I was a bit confused about this book to start with, and then when I realised what the Paris sections of ‘two weeks ago ‘ were about , the reality of them , I was exceptionally sad . So I suppose I can say in all honesty that this book really touched me more than I expected. Really good storytelling, lovely characters, highly recommended.

Sophie is about to marry Will but she has unfinished business with ex-husband Tom so she travels to Paris to meet him there one last time.

There are three timelines: From "first summer 2011" towards the present, "two weeks ago" in Paris and "now". The twist, which I've figured out very early on, comes at 40% and from then on the Now timeline actually also goes back in time, to after what happened with Tom and her encountering his best friend Will again, up to the wedding, but all while in the past timeline we haven't got to the point where Tom left yet.

I found it all very confusing and questioned why the story couldn't just have been told in a linear fashion. Also, don't get me wrong, I like Paris as much as the next person but I wouldn't want to go there eight years in a row, as symbolic to your relationship as it might be, especially if all you ever do is visit the Louvre. It just feels like such a cliché.

I really didn't understand why we had to spend so much time in Sophie's relationship with Tom. I would have loved to get more story with Will who was so lovely instead of endlessly having Sophie fretting about not becoming pregnant while not actually having much in common with rich boy Tom.

This story contains some emotionally hard-hitting topics and you might need tissues if you're prone to tears. Recommended if you like books with really gorgeous covers about how to deal with grief and getting second chances.

Every now and then I do like a good love story. This book kinda felt like that old movie Same Time Next Year. While I wasn’t a big fan of this book and really struggled to read it, others seemed to enjoy it.

I love books that have people meeting up at the same place each year and so decided this book was a definite for me,I guess I thought i knew what the premise would be and what would happen………how wrong I was, it was as enchanting as expected but didn’t expect so much depth and emotion and feeling……there was, naturally humour and of course romance but as the book took a steep turn I was really drawn into the characters lives and their experiences and how they were living…..I loved it

Never a fan of Paris tbh,( it’s always so much nicer in books ) I wasn’t expecting to be so interested in the sights and especially ‘The Mona Lisa’ which have never seen in real life but the author described it’s home and surroundings so well I was easily picturing it, something I rarely do with art even the most famous pieces

Is it cliched to say I adored a book? Maybe but there you go….I really did and found myself wishing everyone well at the end, satisfied at the outcome and the reading pleasure had just had

Paris was Sophie and Tom’s destination of choice. They even honeymooned there. This book focuses on Sophie and Tom’s relationship and their trips to Paris. How it began, their marriage and their tragic ending! Can Sophie rebuild her life and be happy?

This is a more serious and heavy-hitting book than this author usually writes. This author does an excellent job of taking heavy-hitting topics and weaving them into an engaging story! Be sure to have your Kleenex ready with your cup of tea!

From the writing to the story, this book will draw you in from the start. Definitely a page turner as you want to find out their fate. A great book for book clubs as it will lead to great discussions!

Thanks to Boldwood Books, I was provided an ARC of Midnight in Paris by Gillian Harvey via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. #NetGalley

The cover for this book caught my eye and I just knew this book was me.
This book is extremely emotional and heartwarming and also heartbreaking. I cried so many times throughout this book. I just wanted to give Sophie a hug, my heart broke for her. I found myself so attached to this book.
I have to say this is my number one book of the year! It is a book that will stay with me forever.
