The concept was so cute and I loved this book! The illustration was so cute and it felt like there was something for everyone. Not only were the recipes super customisable but there was so much flexibility in how much you wanted to actually prepare for the ramen and thus your cooking level. It felt really accessible how it was structured because it was entirely optional whether you made the ramen noodles and if you added extras for instance. There was also so much variety which as someone new to ramens, this was really cool to see.
I loved the layout of the recipes and the graphics were wonderful. It was presented so well, with the display of level and serving size so it was visually super easy to digest. My only critique is I wish there were more sides, more ramens and a dessert ramen would've been really cool to see!
Kawaii Cafe Ramen will definitely be the book that will make the perfect housewarming gift. I cannot wait to purchase a hard copy and try out the recipes. I like how it gives pointers on making sure that you cook the ingredients at the right time to ensure the perfect ramen. Each recipe provides serving size, level, and prep time. They also appear easy to follow and the pictures are cute.
Thank you so much to Netgalley and Quarto Publishing Group for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Kawaii Café Ramen: Classic, Fun, and Delicious Ramen Meals to Make at Home by Amy Kimoto-Kahn is a gorgeously illustrated and nicely researched cookbook that is perfect for anyone who loves ramen and may want to try making these delicious dishes.
I really appreciate the indepth look at the process of making ramen, from the bases, the noddles, soups, to sides. The recipes are detailed but easy to understand, making the entire process of cooking ramen seems a lot less daunting. The artworks throughout the book are absolutely beautiful and add to the cutesy aesthetics of the cookbook.
I can't wait to buy and add Kawaii Café Ramen onto my official cookbook library!
Kawaii Ramen Cafe by Amy Kimoto-Kahn is an adorable cookbook, perfect for anyone who wants to up their ramen game!
The cookbook not only provides great recipes, but also the best ways to plate, where to find ingredients, and a brief history of ramen in the states and Japan. Each recipe provides a difficulty rating, approximate servings, time to cook, and ingredients in both imperial and metric.
There's a fantastic variety of bases, toppings, and soups, enough to keep any cook busy! I would love to add this to my collection of cookbooks as soon as it comes out in 2025.
Thank you to NetGalley and Quarto for the eARC. All opinions in this review are my own.
I will be posting this review to Goodreads, Amazon, and Barnes and Noble.
I will 100% be whipping this book out next time I’m making ramen. There were so many different tips and tricks about how to make, plate, and put together the perfect bowl of ramen. And as a student who basically lives on ramen, this will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you so much to NetGalley and the publisher for giving me a free copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.
It was a privilege to read Kawaii Café Ramen. This book has given me the key to elevating my ramen-making skills from beginner to intermediate. Not only is the reader provided with delicious recipes, but also insightful information about each topping and dish.
When I started reading this book, I expected only the ingredients and methods of preparing ramen to be provided. I was surely mistaken. Kimoto-Kahn provided insight into where she sourced her ingredients rather than just telling the reader what the ingredients are. The instructions for each recipe are meticulous and detailed. The reader is provided with the difficulty level, serving sizes, preparation time, measurement conversions, and translations of Japanese ingredients. This information is crucial when deciding whether or not you'll make a dish. It is evident that extensive research was done to prepare this book.
Before reading this book, I would prepare my ramen by only boiling noodles and sprinkling in the spice packet. Kawaii Café Ramen has changed my view on preparing ramen. The description does not lie when it says, "down-to-earth writing," because I could comprehend every recipe as an individual with beginner culinary skills. Whether you want to make a flavourful and hearty ramen dish for yourself or to impress friends and family, I suggest you read this book.
Thank you to NetGalley and Quarto Publishing Group - Rock Point for providing me with this ARC.
The prettiest cookbook! I love the illustrations and also how it is divided into different themes. Many recipes sound delicious and I will be making them. A must-buy for the ramen lover who want to try something new.
Oh, "Kawaii Care Ramen" is an utter joy in so many ways! Amy Kimoto-Kahn put in so much effort to make ramen-bowls as easy and as unintimidating as possible. Many of the core components, like the broth bases, toppings, and even sides are given their own devoted chapters. Then the individual recipes themselves also come with estimated prep times, a number based on a 1-5 difficulty level, and also the estimated number of servings. It really puts one at ease as they start to look through the actual ramen bowls themselves that are rich with variety and flavor combinations, many of which are entirely brand new to me personally. And of course, I cannot forget the absolutely adorable artwork.
Just an absolute delight of a cookbook!
Kawaii Café Ramen features a myriad of ramen recipes. From soup bases and noodles, to delicious side dishes. You will find everything you need to make the ultimate bowl of ramen.
This cookbook helps you make your own personal bowl of ramen. It's a true mix and match style. Kimoto-Kahn gives you plenty of options for how to combine all the given elements, but she emphasizes you can make your bowl your own. Whether you are vegan or like your ramen spicy.
This is not your traditional ramen, though there are components of that here too. It features plenty of fusion dishes inspired by cuisines outside Japan and a portion of recipes lovingly inspired by Kimoto-Kahn's friends and family. All of this is accompanied by cute (kawaii) illustrations, which makes for a very attractive book to pick up.
What I love most about this book is that Kimoto-Kahn gives very clear instructions on how to prep the food from best practice appliances to prep order and time. Making ramen at home can feel very overwhelming with all the different components, but this cookbook makes it feel doable whether you are a beginner or have more experience in the kitchen. This makes the book suitable for everyone interested in trying their hand at making ramen at home.
Kawaii Café Ramen was first publihed in 2016 as Simply Ramen. I haven't personally read that book, but it seems Simply Ramen featured real life pictures instead of the cute illustrations.
This recipe book is definitely adorable!! The art is the absolute best - definitely enticing to readers. The recipes looks amazing and straightforward. It's definitely different from a normal cookbook, and could bring a lot of attention for being both cute and less daunting.
This is the perfect book for ramen enthusiasts out there! cute illustrations, detailed instructions, a huge variety of ramens and even side dishes !
Excellent and cute book about ramen. Perfect combination between kawaii and cooking.
I will be modifying and mixing a couple of the recipes here to my taste because it offers so much variety.
This recipe book is literally perfect! The aesthetic and art are absolutely stunning and give it such a cozy feel, the recipes sound delicious and they're easy to follow and whole layout is really nice
This ramen cookbook by Amy Kimoto-Kahn is strangely heartfelt and adorable.
The book starts with an introduction to the chef, which proves her credentials in being able to make delicious ramen while also being serious and interesting. The illustrations for all the recipes are cute and the layout of the recipes are reminiscent of cooking video games.
I don't eat ramen often but if I was craving it I would turn to this book. Each recipe gives a difficulty level and a prep time, I'd know exactly what I'm getting myself into while also getting glimpses of the authors personality and easy to follow instructions. And best of all, cute pictures to base my meal off of!
This is an amazing cookbook with such clear instructions and is extremely easy to read. Although I haven't had the time to try out any of the recipes yet and sadly won't be able to for a little bit because of the current state of my kitchen.
I am not someone who cooks much and usually find it difficult to read recipes, finding there is often a lot of filler. That being said, this book is the complete opposite. The way each page is structured makes it easy to know exactly how hard it is to make, how many people it services and the prep time. This information is displayed in what could be described as a video game level bar and makes it easy and quick to find recipes within your skill level.
It was also an amazing idea to separate the book into the different aspects of the ramen (base, noodles, toppings) so you can pick and choose different combinations and try them out for yourself.
We can tell how much the author cares about making great, not good but great, ramen and has worked a lot on this book. The only thing that may be important to point out is that some of the ingredients used are very "fancy". For example, one of the topping recipes uses pork shoulder, which I learnt was an expensive and exquisite part of the pork. This isn't a negative aspect, but just something to keep in mind. There are a lot of other toppings that do not use as expensive of ingredients so you can just use those if this isn't something affordable at the moment however.
Overall, I'd highly recommend this book for anyone who is interested in learning more about making great ramen and learning about what makes said great ramen better than just good ramen.
Ramen has become one of my comfort meals, I love putting on one of my favorite k-dramas or anime’s and just devouring a bowl of ramen. Thank you to @netgalley and @quartopublishinggroup for the arc of this cookbook, I can’t wait to try and make some of the 60 plus ramen recipes. I really liked that the cookbook is broken up into sections. As someone who’s ever had store bought cup o noodles or the packaged ramen it was really interesting to see that there were other kinds of ramen. I also liked how the first section of the book was for the ramen base and noodles, followed by ramen toppings. The cookbook ended with sides which I am also excited to try and make some of them. Overall I really enjoyed this cookbook from cover to cover, I wish there were more pictures for the individual recipes. I cannot wait to get a physical copy of the cookbook.
Great cookbook with illustrations to make the culinary world more fun and bright. The recipes made the ramen cooking process seem more simple to follow.
If you're looking to make ramen at home that’s fun, flavorful, and easy on the wallet, *Kawaii Café Ramen* is the book you need! With over 60 recipes, it offers a playful yet practical guide to crafting your own ramen, whether you're craving a rich pork broth or something light like a California ramen with crabmeat and avocado. My husband and I had a blast picking out ingredients and making our own variations on date nights—plus, the anime-style illustrations make everything feel even more special. The best part? You can prep your soup base ahead of time, making weeknight dinners feel like a treat!
The illustrations are so cute. I almost forgot this was a cookbook. There are so many recipes and there is something for everyone. I can't wait to try a couple of the recipes. I will be requesting my library to purchase this book and buying a copy for myself.
The cutest ramen how to around!
Gorgeous recipes, easily explained with the most adorable illustrations!
Normally in a cook book I’ll find a handful of recipes I’d care to give a go but this has something I’d love to make on nearly every page, highly recommend!
