3.5 stars, rounding up to 4.
This may have been a 4 star, but I was missing a lot of information about the relationships of the main characters, which is my fault for jumping in at book 6 honestly.
That being said, the writing and characters were interesting and kept me hooked and the secret cult was fascinating. I wish there had been more about the changes between what life was like under "grandma" and what life was like under " Calliope".
I also loved Brennan's sentiment about utopias: there are a lot of people who want to live that lifestyle, but few rise to the level of cult. Many times we, myself included, think of these people living off the land and think "cult" automatically but Brennan makes sure to draw that distinction with respect. She also included mention of Ruby Ridge and Waco, grounding her fiction in reality.
Fantastic audio as well!
Thank you to NetGalley, the author Allison Brennan, and Harlequin Audio for my ARC of this audiobook.

I'm fairly new to Allison Brennan books, and I think that audio is the way to go for these - the narrator did a fantastic job to bring the characters to life and the pacing was fantastic.

I received an ARC of the audiobook and I really enjoyed it! The story ended up being way different than I thought it would be but ended up being super interesting in the end! This was about a cult, or about something very similar to a cult without calling it one. I had never read anything by this author before but it was still good and interesting. I’m not a huge fan of cult books, just not a topic I typically gravitate towards but I still wanted to see what was going to happen with this one and where the story was going to take me. If you like books about cults or mysteries with suspense I think you will thoroughly enjoy this one! If you have the chance to listen to the audiobook definitely give it a try!!

This book grabbed my attention right from the start and then quickly transitioned to new people and different events. This book had a lot of characters that didn’t overlap, but yet shared similar happenings. Overall, it focused on a cult that people were trying to get out of, but never went over why they joined. Very predictable ending. Thank you to NetGalley and Harlequin Audio for the advanced reader copy in exchange for an honest review.

Thank you to NetGalley for the advanced audiobook. One thing to keep in mind that this is book number six in a series , I did not know that when requesting the book.. However, it’s OK to read it as a standalone. I thought the narration was great and enjoyed the story.

This is a Mystery/Suspense, and this is the 6st book in the Quinn and Costa series. I have not read the other books in this series, but I do think you can read this book as a standalone. I listened to the audiobook for this book, and I liked the narrator. I was pulled into this story, and I did not want to put this book down. I really loved the pacing in this book and all the drama/twists and turns. This is a great read with great characters and a lot of suspense. I received an ARC of this book. This review is my own honest opinion about the book like all my reviews are.

See How They Hide is the 6th book in the Quinn & Costa series by Allison Brennan. I’ve read them all and really enjoy this series. The books can be read stand alone. I loved the working and personal relationship between Detective Kate Quinn & Special Agent Matt Costa. The storylines are engaging and keep me interested. As always Suzanne T. Fortin did an excellent job with the narration.
Thank you to NetGalley & Harlequin Audio for letting me read this ARC in exchange for my honest review.

Thank you NetGalley and publisher for this ARC audiobook for an honest review.
I am a fan of Allison Brennan and had already read the first two books of this series when I received the ARC for this audiobook for book number 6.
I enjoyed this installment, but I highly recommend starting with book one. I had the rudimentary background from the previous books I read, but I missed the addition of some new characters as well as the character/relationship development that had already occurred. I will be going back to fill in those other books.
All that being said, this is a solid series, and this book was a worthwhile addition. We had our team of agents working together to investigate what on paper looked like random murders occurring in different locations during the same time frame. The victims however, all died the same way, were covered in poppies, and had lived in the same state in the past. There is a definite connection...it turns out they all lived in the same cult/commune and had escaped to a new life and identity. And someone was tracking and killing all those people.
Mystery, suspense, and intriguing plot. The whole storyline kept me invested and I enjoyed seeing the dynamics between our team. Matt and Kara were not together in person as much as I would have liked, but I loved the moments when they were together. and to see how far these two have come.
I wonder if Riley will be added to the team...
The narrator of this series does an excellent job!
Looking forward to the next book!

Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for this eARC in audiobook format.
Alison Brennan's "See How They Hide" is a masterclass in suspense, a gripping thriller that will keep your interest.
This is not your typical crime novel; it's a symphony of suspense, where every note is perfectly orchestrated to create a crescendo of captivating tension.
This story follows Detective Kara Quinn and Special Agent Matt Costa as they investigate a series of gruesome murders that seem to be connected by a single, chilling detail: red poppies. As they delve deeper into the case, they uncover a web of secrets and lies that stretches across the country, and they realize that they are dealing with a killer who is far more dangerous than they ever imagined.
Brennan's writing is sharp and incisive, and she has a knack for creating characters that are believable and compelling. Quinn and Costa are a dynamic duo, their contrasting personalities and investigative styles complementing each other perfectly. The supporting cast is equally well-drawn, and each character plays a crucial role in the unfolding drama.
The plot is intricate and full of twists and turns, and Brennan keeps the reader guessing. Just when you think you have it figured out, she throws a curveball that will send you reeling. The pacing is relentless, and the tension never lets up, making this a truly addictive read.
"See How They Hide" is more than just a thriller. It's also a story about the human cost of violence, and the enduring power of hope. Brennan explores the dark side of human nature, but she also reminds us that even in the face of unimaginable evil, there is always the possibility of redemption.
This audiobook is brought to life by the talented narrator, who captures the nuances of Brennan's writing and the personalities of her characters perfectly. The narration is clear and engaging, making for an immersive listening experience.
"See How They Hide" is a must-listen for fans of crime fiction. It's a thrilling and suspenseful novel and it's particularly stellar in audiobook format.
Five stars from this reviewer.

Two people are murdered at the exact same time, in the exact same way. It's up to a cop and an FBI agent to figure out what happened. What they find is a cult, a target, and a survivor.
I really liked this book. It was a well-plotted thriller. And though it is part of a series, you do not have to have read the other books in the series to read and enjoy this book. It was suspenseful and believable. The clues lead the investigators to a small cult in Colorado. The leader, a woman, is truly scary. Figuring out how and why things are happening is the key. Are the cops going to figure it out in time? After one of their own gets kidnapped by the cult, the suspense builds.
I will definitely be reading more of this series. I really enjoyed this book. It was captivating and good entertainment. I didn't have to think too hard, but I really liked it. The narrators were fantastic as well. Check this book out.

the setup…
Detective Kara Quinn and the Mobile Response Team are dispatched to a crime scene in Oregon where a female college student is found murdered, her throat cut and red poppies covering her body. At the same time, Special Agent Matt Costa is in Virginia at another crime scene, this time an older man who was murdered exactly the same way and at the exact same time. Not long after, they discover other murders that are tied to these two. It’s mystifying until they find Riley Pierce the roommate of one the victims who holds the key to unlocking secrets that go beyond these murders.
the heart of the story…
The story opens with a murder that the team doesn’t learn about until much later, which added to my tension. It was clear that some sort of organization was behind these killings but nothing prepared me for the senselessness of it all. All roads lead back to a place called Havenwood in the Colorado Rockies, at one time considered a utopian environment until it wasn’t. It presents a formidable challenge to the team as no one knows exactly where it is. Riley is a product of that society and while she escaped, she still has all the fears and mistrusts of the outside world they instilled in her from birth.
the narration…
Suzanne Fortin is the voice of this series and I especially like her voice for Kara as well as her great storytelling. I will always hold out for the audio version.
the bottom line…
The case was tough and I was highly engaged from the outset. But what distinguishes this story is what’s at its core…cults and the mindsets of those who join them. It goes beyond the basics, utilizing the skills of an expert who provides insights that made the participants more relatable, understandable and human. I loved that there also seems to be a deepening of the personal relationship between Kara & Matt, which I was hoping to see. Still loving this series.

Another great book from Allison Brennan. Never a dull moment in the book. The narrator captures the mood and creates great tension. Loved the relatable characters. I recommend the whole series.

This was the first book I’ve read in this series. I loved it. I would love to find the other audiobooks in this series. It was a fast paced read.

Allison does a great job with making each book in this series fresh and I hope that she continues it. I love listening to the audio books of this series. The narrator does a great job of seamlessly moving between characters and I appreciate her inflection.

I didn’t realize that this was a series, which is totally my mistake. I got to roughly 20% and decided it would be better if I started from book 1. However, I was enjoying the story and narrating so far! I definitely will add this series to my TBR!

Fairly decent book, the writing was well done and cohesive. I enjoyed the book as a stand alone, I didn't realize it was a part of a series. The ending felt pretty anticlimactic, hence the four instead of five stars, but overall I enjoyed the book. If you're into books that really build up0 and dig into the story then you'd probably like this book.
