I absolutely love Kiersten's books and this romance thriller was a fast-paced and steamy romance thriller! I went into this audiobook thinking that it was thriller focused and while the romance between Tessa and Garrett did catch me off guard, it did get me to understand the background of the two main characters. Definitely enjoyed this one!

thriller thriller.
Yep! I am a big K-Mod Psychological Thriller fan.
I went into this story with no idea what it was about other than I love this author.

When I read some of the reviews I feared this was not going to work for me.
I am not fan of steamy sexy romance. I do like a sweet love story.
I know K-Mod has combined thriller with romance in several of her stories. I read and liked " Hemlock". It was an emotional suspenseful romance. I also read " The Hollow]" -however, it was only okay and I wasn’t a fan.

The murders then and now had me curious. I hung in there – true I and did roll my eyes with all “the steamy make-out”. (Not that I didn’t want them to “get-together- I just didn’t want to read details about their intimate relationship)

I knew K-Mod would NOT let me down ~ and she didn’t!
I ended up liking it!
Whodunit was a surprise as was as the reason Garrett broke up with Tessa back when they were teens.
This turned out to be a great story!

I want to thank NetGalley, Dreamscape Media, and author Kiersten Modglin for this great early audiobook.
Audiobook Release Date scheduled for December 31, 2024.

Where the Darkness Goes would be in Modglin’s “romance thriller” category. One that was introduced to me, by Modglin, and I’m quite enjoying.

Tessa had escaped her home town for a multitude of reasons. Girls and women were turning up dead, there were no leads. Her mother had an accident, was it an accident (??), which led to a stroke and left her mostly non communicative. Her ex-boyfriend, also her brother’s best friend, left her broken hearted with no closure.

She returns home for the funeral of another girl who died under mysterious circumstances, her childhood best friend. She is ready to find answers to all of her burning questions, and once and for all figure out what is happening to the women of her hometown.

I enjoyed the audiobook, the dual timelines and dual POV’s. This one was not quite as suspenseful, “edge of your seat” as some of Modglin’s other thrillers, but it was still very enjoyable. There was suspense around the killer and the state of Tessa and Garrett’s relationship. Like always, the characters were well developed and I found myself really getting to know all of them.

Thank you to NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for an advanced audio copy of this book. The physical and ebook is available now. The audiobook becomes available on 12/31/2004.

Where the Darkness Goes is told from alternating viewpoints- Tessa Becker and Garrett Campbell. Tessa and Garrett had a complicated relationship when they were teenagers that caused them to not see each other for many years as adults. Garrett broke her heart. But now Tessa has to go back home for her best friends funeral and confront her past head on. When she was a teenager, moms and daughters were being murdered in her hometown and it seems that it's happening again. Tessa visits her mother in the nursing home where she is due to a stroke and finds a note accusing her mom of being a "murderer". It's up to Tessa to find out who left the note and who is behind the murder of her best friend.

This was my 4th Modglin book and I was hoping for a bit more. I was expecting more twists from Modglin but this was my first "romantic thriller". I did enjoy the romance aspect but it wasn't as thrilling as I was hoping. I had figured out who the murderer was before it was revealed. I did like the alternating viewpoints and that it flashed between past and present. I think that aspect was very well done. The story itself was fantastic! I just kept hoping for a bit more- a bit more romance, a bit more twists, something jaw dropping that I couldn't see coming, yet it never came. Overall 4 stars. Would I still recommend this book? Absolutely! The audio was great!

Thank you to NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for the ALC!

I listened to the audio book for this one. Where the Darkness Goes is a romantic mystery. I really enjoyed the mystery part of this book. I've read a lot of mysteries but did not see this ending coming. I did not enjoy the romance portion as much but that might be just me. I do not enjoy spice in my reading. :)

Thank you to NetGalley for the arc in exchange for my honest review.

Pigs are flying y'all!
I'm giving a K-Mod book 4 stars!!! WHAT!!
But yes,I am admitting I broke my 6 month purge of her books. I tried so hard to resist requesting this book on NetGalley, but I am addicted. Not in a good way either.Usually it is self punishment. But y'all this was actually pretty quality stuff.

What surprised me most about this book, was it felt like it was written by an adult, the names were not ridiculous and the banter/chemistry was dead on. As I was reading I had a few theories that were wrong and K Mod caught me off gaurd with the direction of the book.
When Tessa returns home she finds that she is going to be rooming with her brothers best friend and ex-flame. As their chemistry kicks up so does the suspicions around her friend Brittany's death. IN addition to Brittany's recent death, the town as a sorted history of dead girls and their mothers.
As you read through the clues and odd events are revealed you will be stunned by a thrilling (but not over the top) conclusion.
K Mod this is your best! I hope you continue writing more books like this.

Thank you Net Galley for allowing me the opportunity to review this advanced copy of Where the Darkness Goes. I was not influenced or paid in exchange for my thoughts.

I’ve listened to quite a few books by this author and this one was a little steamier than usual, which I really enjoyed. The steamy moments felt natural and didn’t overshadow the story, adding a nice layer of intensity to the romance. It was a pleasant surprise and a nice change of pace.

The mystery, as always, was the main thing that kept me hooked. I love how the author weaves twists and turns throughout the plot, keeping you guessing about what’s going to happen next. This one definitely had me intrigued from the start, and the way the mystery unraveled kept me engaged all the way through.

The dual timeline was another element that worked well in this book. It added depth to the story, and I liked how the past and present were woven together. The narrator did a great job of distinguishing between the two timelines, making it easy to follow along without any confusion. Each timeline added pieces to the puzzle, making the story more interesting as it progressed.

The narrator’s performance was really strong. They did a great job with the characters, capturing their emotions and personalities in a way that made them feel real. The pacing was spot on, and the narration flowed smoothly, which made it easy to stay immersed in the story from beginning to end.

This audiobook was a solid listen. The mix of a good mystery, the added steaminess, and the dual timeline made for an enjoyable experience. I’m glad I picked it up, and it’s definitely a book I’d recommend to anyone who enjoys a well-paced mystery with a touch of romance.

This was a very twisty ride so to speak. It was well written in my opinion and I absolutely love her books! Don't miss out on this one, you will surely regret it.

I chose this book based off the author, Kiersten Modglin, as her trillers are generally quick easy reads. I feel like this book was more of a cutesy love story with a little drama mixed in- and I was not thrilled.

Kiersten Modglin has quickly become one of my favorite authors! I loved the romance meets thriller vibes in this book. The narration was perfect and this was a quick listen for me because I just had to know how it ended!

As always this author does not disappoint. She is an instabuy author for me. This is a thriller that will keep you on the edge of your seat guessing, get comfortable, cause you will keep guessing until the end. The fmc gets more than she bargained for when she comes home for her friend's funeral. It's not long before she starts asking questions that will eventually bring answers she doesn't want to know. I love that this one is sprinkled with romance as well. I definitely recommend this one.

⭐️⭐️⭐️💫 / 3.5 stars

Where the Darkness Goes is a romantic thriller, with more emphasis on the romance rather than the thrill. It's told in dual POV, as well as dual timeline, and the audiobook utilized dual narration as well.

In the beginning I could feel the suspense building, as well as the tension between the two MC's, but a lot of the thrill I craved was not there in the second part of the book; even though this is where all is revealed. I found myself just kind of being like, "Oh, that's it?". The revelation was interesting, but overall it wasn't really the thrilling ride I come to expect from a KMod book.

Many thanks to NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for this advanced Audiobook Listening Copy in exchange for an honest review.

Where the Darkness Goes by Modglin is a book that I could not put down. The narrator was great. Five stars!

I've always been a sucker for a good romantic suspense novel, and Where the Darkness Goes by Kiersten Modglin didn't disappoint. This was my first time reading her work, and I'll definitely check out other books by her.

The story follows Tessa and Garrett, two childhood friends who drifted apart. The dual timeline format gave us more insight into their past and present, and I appreciated the dual POVs that gave us a peek into their thoughts and feelings.

While the romance was sweet and the suspenseful elements kept me guessing, I wished for a bit more thrill. Some of the twists were unexpected, but I craved a deeper dive into the darker side of the story.

That being said, the narration was fantastic. Ellie Gossage and Jay Myers were new to me narrators, but they brought the characters to life and made the listening experience a pleasure.

If you're a fan of romantic suspense or Kiersten Modglin, I highly recommend giving this book a try. It's a delightful blend of love and mystery, perfect for a cozy night in.

Thank you NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for the ALC of this book. I voluntarily listened and gave an honest review.

I’m loving all of Kiersten Modglin’s audiobooks so far! The writing sucks me in and the narrators are wonderful. It has me listening every moment I can. Tessa is returning to her small hometown after the death of her friend, Brittany, from high school. She ends up unexpectedly staying in the same house as Garrett, her brother’s best friend and her ex. Past and present timelines weave together as Brittany’s death mirrors the mysterious deaths of teen girls years before while Tessa and Garrett find themselves reliving their hot and steamy will-they-won’t-they dance.

Dual timelines and POV (Tessa and Garrett). I loved hearing both characters’ inner thoughts and monologues. It made me root for them hard knowing their intentions were both so raw and pure for each other.

Audio specific: enjoyed having male and female narrators. Fantastic production.

Thank you NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for this audio ARC. This review will be shared on NetGalley and Goodreads.

Where The Darkness Goes by Kiersten Modglin
🌟🌟🌟🌟 (3.5 rounded up)
This was a fairly entertaining romance/thriller story. I felt as though the romance was out weighing the thrills, which wasn’t my favorite though.
I enjoyed the dual timelines that this story has, as I found it fun to get pieces from when the characters were younger and then older.
There were some twists and surprises more towards the end, when pieces started to come together.
I love Kiersten Modglin’s writing, but this definitely wasn’t one of my favorites.

Thank you to NetGalley for an audio copy of this story. The narrators were excellent!!

Is Tessa Becker dreaming? Stranded in the middle of a storm, waiting for help, she sees someone she thought she’d never see again—Garrett Campbell. Not only does Garrett assist Tessa after her car breaks down, but she also discovers that they’ll be roommates while she’s in town for a friend’s funeral. Tessa’s intention when returning to her hometown was to stay with her brother Will, unaware that Garrett and Will are roommates, and Will is actually out of town on business.

Tessa and Garrett have a history which is explored in this book. However, despite the romantic theme, there’s something sinister lurking beneath the surface. When Tessa, Garrett, and Will were in their late teens, murders shook the town. Those murders remained unsolved.

As the story unfolds, the timeline shifts between past and present, revealing how the trio was affected by those murders. Now adults, speculation arises that the current death is connected to those of years ago.

With unexpected twists as the story begins to unravel, past and present collide, impacting both the romance and the suspense. The dual narration in this audiobook made it incredibly easy for me to become fully invested in this captivating story.

Many thanks to Kiersten Modglin and NetGalley for this ARC for review. This is my honest opinion.

The narrators were really good. This is the first book I've listened to by this author. The problem I had with it was the inconsistency. At times characters respond in a that only makes sense for the plotline but not the character and how they are written which I find it frustrating. The other issue I had with it was the plotline itself. Dealing with small towns and teenagers there is no way that the situation would have remained secret for years. I liked it it overall but not sure if I'll read anything by this author.

"romantic thriller" was not the crossover I was expecting but it was good. For those who like spicy but want some non-traditional impediments to get there, this is for you. As always, big fan of KMod and her stories.
Thank you to NetGalley, the author, and Dreamscape Media for my advance copy of this audiobook

Thank you to the publisher and author for this audio ARC! I am a Kiersten Modglin fan, but this is the first of her "romantic thrillers" that I have read.
I am not sure the romantic thriller genre is for me. I can't say that I have inherent issues with this book specifically, and I still enjoy Modglin as an author, but for future reads I may pass on romantic thrillers. For me, both the romance and the thriller aspects of the books didn't go *far* enough - meaning neither were developed enough for me to be invested.
It was not bad, but not all that memorable for me. The audiobook was perfectly fine, except for when the female narrator changed her voice to voice the pastor...that part didn't fly for me, and I am not easily bothered when it comes to audiobooks.
This book isn't bad, but not Modglin's best - but it could be the genre type that is a miss for me. Modglin has some far better books out there and I will definitely keep reading her works!
