MIDNIGHT ACTION (KILLER INSTINCTS #5) blew me away that we finally get Noelle and Jim Morgan's backstory and what a story it is. The author went back and forth with their history and the present and it all began nineteen years ago! It fills in the blanks of their attraction and the reasons for their animosity. It also reminds us that there's a very fine line between love and hate.
Kennedy's MIDNIGHT ACTION is could have easily been the first book in the series but we wouldn't have had the build up or anticipation of what Noelle and Jim's issues are every time they are together. There are a lot of twists to the story and we are once again reunited with many of the characters we've met before all whom have many layers that we need to peel back to really get to know them if we ever really do. The characters are well developed and they all bring a history with them of their previous lives and the current or previous ops they have been involved in. There is always sexual tension mixed in with the stakeouts, shoot 'em ups, mysteries to be solved, the ops and the adventures. There were family and friends along with teammates, laughter, tears, hurts, secrets, deceit, travel, tensions, fights, surveillance, sex, hate, love, and action. There were several happily ever afters in the offing and nice closure even if was not what I was expecting. There was a sneak peek of MIDNIGHT CAPTIVE which only whet my appetite for more.
Kennedy is fast becoming one of my favorite authors of romantic suspense. I can't wait to read books six and seven in this series, MIDNIGHT CAPTIVE and MIDNIGHT REVENGE, respectively. Her books will be added to my always growing TBR pile since I can't wait to see what the teams are involved in next and I for one hope this series continues even after book seven is released next year!
I rated the book 4.5 stars but rounded to 5 stars here and on other sites.
I'm sorry, I thought I would eventually get to these books in the series, but as much as I enjoy Elle's' books, I lost interest around the second book, Midnight Alias. Midnight Rescue was a 4 star read for me and Midnight Alias dropped to a 3.5. By the time I was ready to start Midnight Games I no longer cared enough about the series to continue on. Having these on my Kindle all this time I still haven't felt the desire to dive back into this world.
I will not be leaving a review on Goodreads or Amazon as I don't find it fair to the author. Also, my star rating doesn't count; Netgalley makes you choose one. Thank you for the opportunity.
