Author Jennifer Love Hewitt narrates Inheriting Magic and I wouldn't have it any other way. Jennifer brings her heart and emotion to the forefront to captivate listeners with the magic of her story. I felt every single word and it was so relatable. I would highly recommend listening to this even if you enjoyed reading the book.
The story itself is vulnerable and gripping, reminding everyone to find magic and happiness in our everyday lives.
This was an interesting story. I like that some of the ideas are open ended and you can go as big or as small as you want Great read and easiy to recommend. I learned a lot.
i read the book and afterwards listened to the audio book and both are worth the time but different experiences from each other.
Hewitt reads the book and you can hear the emotions she felt while writing specific moments -the grief and sadness talking about her mother, but also the love and eagerness for specific moments and topics.
it makes the book felt a bit more personal, a bit more memoir feeling instead of a book filled with ideas and inspirations to also fill the readers life with little magical moments.
i recommend both highly if you want something that reminds you that you can find reminders and love and hope and yes magic in little moments and/or holidays.
if that doesn’t sound like you type of book? don’t read this.
but if it sounds like something fitting to you?
divide your format and go for it! it’s not a huge commitment but worth the time spend it just too experience of a different persons life and their small moments of life that made it special to them and how it can inspire you.
and also how grief and sadness is very much part of life and okay to feel and experience as long as you need - Hewitt reminded me a lot of that and i think sometimes that is necessary to be reminded of.
be it the grief for a person or a life or a moment or a situation…. grief needs to be felt .
and especially in the audio book i think that is very clearly felt.
Hank you to NetGalley for the audiobook version of this book. I must say I’m not up to celebrities or the entertainment culture. I loved that with this book you don’t need background on Jennifer. I love that Jennifer wrote the book and she is the narrator. You can hear the love and emotion behind every word- you can hear how she wants to to hear and feel her words. I felt like the book is based on the magic of month- each month has a small or big holiday to be celebrated and Jennifer has found a fun way to make every moment- every holiday for the month a special magical month.

Inheriting Magic by Jennifer Love Hewitt is part memoir, part how to entertain your kids. I was grateful this was a quick read. It was not exactly what I expected based on the title.
I enjoyed the narration by the author. She read this like she was speaking with a friend.
I thought it was odd that in order to get the recipes the author tells you that you have to purchase a written copy of the book. Most authors (annoyingly) read the recipes or (thankfully) include the recipes as a digital download for audio readers.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
I wanted to like this book so much more than I did. I thought that it would be sweet for Jennifer Love Hewitt to talk about her mother and reflect back on their life. This book was just a lot of the same thing. I don't know I could stand the author saying the word "Magic" one more time. It was just a bit too much. I get that is the title of the book, but come on, everything is NOT magic. I do like that she has lots of ideas how to make life more magical for her children. Although, a lot of what she talks about doing, she is able to do because she is wealthy and can pay people to help with these lavish parties. Sure, someone with a lot of money can get help making their kids every party grand. I would love a book where Jennifer Love Hewitt tells more about her life growing up and tells more stories regarding the work that she has done instead.
Very open and raw emotionally story about grief and hope. Also touches on post partum depression. With a joyful voice, celebrates life and love.
I really enjoyed the author's narration. The way she speaks of the love and magic that was her life with her mum. How she brings the same magic to her family and friends lives. The interview at the end was a great surprise as it's her husband as the interviewer.
Cute book I love this author so much I grew up watching her and have always admired her. I too know the pain of missing a loved one during the holiday season it's hard. In saying that I have to say she is very strong for constantly making her own magic in life
I have been a fan of JLH’s since her Kids, Inc days. Though this was short, I went in expecting a memoir. It started off as a memoir, with information about her mom. But then it dived into just a lot of suggestions on how you can bring magic into your life, including a lot of doing so as a mom. Since I am not a mother, this fell flat for me. I wanted more about JLH’s life.
Thanks to NetGalley for a copy of the audiobook for review.
This book contains a lot of descriptions of Pinterest type activities the author does with her children. I’m guessing that the photos in the print version add a lot to the book. I’d recommend the book for readers whose children are younger than or closer in age to the age of the author’s children. Mine are 17 and 13 so past a lot of the activities described.
I was so excited to listen to an ARC of Inheriting Magic- I adored Jennifer Love Hewitt on Ghost Whisperer and I am so big on the idea of bringing magic into my daily like. I want to be clear that this is not just a book for parents. If you can listen with even a smidge of creativity, this can be applied to any kind of family and I was so inspired. However, you should note that if you're listening to the audiobook, you don't get the recipes listed in the physical book.
Ler esse livro na época do natal foi uma experiência e tanto, eu amei que é narrado pela Jennifer e eu perdi a conta de quantas vezes eu me emocionei. Amei e quero fazer as receitinhas.
Thank you, Net Galley for providing an ARC (although it was received after publication day) of INHERITING MAGIC by Jennifer Love Hewitt. This was a short and easy book to listen to, also relatively interesting, though a little repetitive. It was interesting to hear how she coped with her grief over losing her mother and did provide a lot of suggestions, not necessarily to overcome grief, but to help in planning activities with your kids or grandchildren. This memoir dealt with a particular time in Jennifer's life and was more about things she did with her family rather than her life as a whole.
This was a cute and fun read for someone who grew up watching Jennifer Love Hewitt. Unfortunately, I did the audio version so I missed out on the cute pictures and recipes.
While ruminating on the grief of losing her mother to cancer, Jennifer Love Hewitt shares her tips for bringing magic into her life.
I’m glad I got declined for the ebook of this, because it does feel a little hokey. But Hewitt’s grief for her mother, the joy and love she finds in her children and husband are so sincere, that I found myself smiling along with her as she talked about creating Moon Water and decorating for every holiday she can.
Also! It was so disconcerting to listen to the little interview, which was delightful, at the end and realize her husband played Doug Kendall on 911.
Thanks to NetGalley and RBMedia for this audio arc!
In this cute book, Jennifer love Hewitt talks about losing her mom. Her mom was very special and added a touch of “magic” into everyday living. Jennifer has taken up the reigns and added “magic” into her own kids lives. She goes a little in depth about how she makes each holiday and birthday special. She even gives cute ideas on how to make just everyday life full of joy. What she does sounds like a lot of work and yes she may be crazy for doing it, but I’m sure these memories will last in her kids minds and hearts for years to come!
Thank you to Netgalley for allowing me to listen to this audiobook in exchange for an honest review!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ “Inheriting Magic: My Journey Through Grief, Joy, Celebration, and Making Every Day Magical” by Jennifer Love Hewitt.
Thank you to NetGalley for the free copy in exchange for an honest review.
Jennifer Love Hewitt’s Inheriting Magic is a heartfelt blend of memoir, practical guide, and celebration of the extraordinary power of everyday magic. As someone who lost my Mum – my best friend and the magic-maker of my childhood – this book felt deeply personal.
Jennifer captures the bittersweet truth that while grief lingers, we can still choose joy and celebration. Her reflections on losing her mother to cancer and stepping into the role of magic maker for her own family resonated profoundly. I found myself nodding along – you can cry in the shower and still light candles for dinner or bake something just because.
The book balances personal anecdotes with practical steps for adding magic to life’s moments – whether that’s through seasonal decorating, family rituals, or small touches that bring warmth and light. The suggestions are adaptable for any budget or capacity, making the ethos of creating magic feel accessible to everyone.
Jennifer’s vulnerability shines through in her stories, making this feel less like a celebrity memoir and more like a cosy chat with a friend who gets it.
If you’re someone who treasures the little things – this book will inspire you. It’s a reminder that love, grief, and magic can coexist, and that choosing to create beauty in the ordinary is a legacy worth carrying on.

Thank you, NetGalley for an advanced ALC of this book
I have been a fan of Jennifer Love Hewitt since my teens and listening to this audiobook of a small glimpse into her life was lovely, the stuff she says she does with her kids and how there are theme nights etc was great and I definitely will be suggesting some of these to my mate her little girl to try and do often.
In this book, she talks about how u can find magic in anything and it is all shown in how you go about it... I can see throughout this book how this mindset and also other things create so much love, fun and happiness 😊.
If u like this actress I do recommend this book I devoured this in one sitting.
A sweet love letter to Jennifer Love Hewitts beloved mother, their relationship, how she was impacted by the loving woman she was and how she metabolized the life lessons and lives with her grief in the most beautiful way. That was a part of the book. The rest was a book about party planning and though there were great creative ideas, I could have done with a little less of it.
