Ms Robbi Renee did it again.and we are back at Monroe University. This book was delicately written and express different styles of grief. I loved how both Dresden and Harper were patient with each other. This was a grown and sexy love story about people in their forties and I was here for it!! I’m hoping we can get a part two because honestly I want more of them!!!

This story deeply explores love, loss, and second chances with two mature protagonists. Dr. Dresden Xavier, a widower and father of twins, and Harper Kingsley, a professor caring for her ex-husband who has cancer, come together through a groundbreaking medical trial. Their shared experiences evolve into a tender connection filled with vulnerability and healing. The pacing slowed a little in the middle but then I was hit with an emotional moment in the story. Another mature heartfelt moment happened around Dresden’s 45th birthday. His actions felt the maturity and depth of their connection.
If you love Black romance and second-chance love, you should read this heartfelt story.

I do want to make a note of the audio narration. It was not my favorite. With some narrators, you can feel the emotion and feelings as they are narrating but I did not get this from this narrator. This really should have been a dual narration. I also had the ebook so I was able to read along and listen.

This book pulled at my heart strings. Dresden a now widowed, eligible bachelor who catches the attention of everyone when he enters a room. Returning to his small hometown for a fresh new start with his daughters he is introduced to a women who has initiated that spark deep on the inside that he lost. This story dives into relationships dealing with, marriages and divorce, parental and young adult children, professional and friendships and loss. With one common connection bringing Harper and Dr Dresden together to face all of this.

I struggled to get through this and contemplated sending it to the dnf file a few times. The story was long and drawn out. It could have easily been shortened. Took me a while to even figure out what was going on or who was who.

The narration didn't help. This was done by a single narrator but could have greatly benefited from duel narrators. Dylan Ford's monotone performance made the story boring. There was no emotion, especially during the few intimate scenes. Speaking of which, the romance doesn't begin to happen until around 65% in. Majority of the book is spent reflecting on Harper's failed marriage and her caring for her dying ex-husband and Dresden morning his deceased wife.

While I appreciate the importance of the author tackling the subjects of grief, loss, and caring for a dying family member, these topics were the main focus of the story and the romance was more of an afterthought and felt rushed. If this were categorized as women's fiction that would make sense. But given this is a romance I expected that to be the focus and the heavy topics being dealt with as Dresden and Harper navigate their relationship.

Unfortunately, the story and narration did not meet my expectations.

I received an audioARC from NetGalley and Recorded Books in exchange for an honest review.

This book really showcased navigating grief and finding a new love at the same time. Both the fmc and mmc experience a loss but they both turn to each other cause of how they both relate. I gave this book 3 stars because to me it was tip toeing on trauma bonding just a little bit. Overall a good read. I didn’t care for the narrator for this book too much, to me he didn’t showcase the characters feelings well.

This book was so heartfelt & beautiful! Dr. Dresden Xavier is still grieving his wifes passing a couple years ago but decides to move back home to Monroe for a new job opportunity for a medical case study. Here he comes across his medical team which also includes the beautiful Harper Kingsley who’s a Professor at the university & is also dealing with an ailing family members sickness. Carrying all the weight of it all, these two are growing closer as their clinic research increases & form a bond & more. This book was beautifully written to see two different characters that dealt with similarities but also had different journeys. The author definitely has you rooting for them both to get a second chance at love & so much more. I honestly enjoyed this book & had the audio version which did not disappoint. This is the second book I’ve read from this author & this one by far was my favorite. Grateful for this complimentary copy for an honest review.

Book Title:
Somebody’s Husband

Author:
Robbi Renee

What’s it about?
Somebody’s Husband is a deeply emotional and beautifully written tale that delves into the complexities of relationships, love, and redemption. Following on the heels of Somebody’s Wife, this novel weaves a slow-burn narrative that uncovers hidden truths, tests loyalties, and challenges characters to confront their deepest fears and desires.

Favorite Part:
The ending stood out as my favorite part of the book. I loved how every thread of the story came together so seamlessly. Initially, I was concerned that certain elements wouldn’t tie up properly, but I was pleasantly surprised by how masterfully it was executed.

Thoughts on Characters:
The characters felt authentic and layered, which made it easy to connect with their struggles and triumphs. Their emotional depth and relatability pulled me into their journeys and allowed me to fully experience their highs and lows.

Would You Recommend It?
Absolutely. This book is perfect for readers who enjoy character-driven narratives with emotional depth and unexpected twists. Fans of Robbi Renee’s Somebody’s Wife will especially appreciate this installment for its ability to both complement and stand alone.

Narration Note:
While the story was beautifully written and deeply moving, the narration left something to be desired. During the more emotional moments, I found the lack of inflection a bit distracting. A stronger delivery might have enhanced the overall experience.

Thank you to NetGalley and RBmedia for providing me with the opportunity to review this book.

I received an Advanced Reader Copy and am voluntarily reviewing it. Whew, Dr. Dresden Xaviar is book bae all day, every day. This book went in a direction I did not think it would go. You know I don't read summaries. I just dive in going off the title alone. I had heard a lot about this book but no one told me what it was about. Just that it was good. Well, I am here to say. This book lived up to expectations.

I received the audiobook and enjoyed listening. This book is so sweet and heartwarming. It delves into grief and the loss of a primary family member. Though it is a love story, it gets deep with emotions when dealing with the death of a spouse, father and mother. The families that a torn apart by the loss are magnified by Ms. Renee. She does an excellent job conveying the emotions they are feeling. When Dresden meets Dr. Harper Kingsley all bets are off. He feels something that he never thought he would feel again. He fights it tooth and nail. How can he love someone else when he gave all of his love to his Rosie. Harper makes it clear that she refuses to compete with a ghost. Will Dresden get it together before he loses out on his second chance for love?

Complete transparency I loved listening to Somebody is Wife and had high hopes for this story, but it fell short. The narrator tried, but his voice was unimpressive. It was not very dynamic. Everyone's voice sounded the same, which did not hold my attention and made the entire story seem monotone, i.e. boring. I almost stopped reading this book several times. The storyline was long winded. I understand that backstory was necessary for context, but the voice was not as diverse as it should have been, making it difficult to keep track of where we were in the story and whether we were in present or past time. It took far too long for the romance to be revealed. Miss Robbie can write, but I think she missed the mark on this one.

This book was greatly anticipated and worth the wait!!!! BABY!!!! If you want to laugh and cry then this is the perfect read!!! The way Robbi Renee portrayed each family’s grief and their way of understanding each other was greatly inspiring. This was an amazing read and proudly displayed a great love for the 40+ crowd (great to see)! The chemistry between Dresden and Harper was electric and made every interaction a delight to read. This type of love is rare and a blessing to experience!!!!

Audiobook Review
5 ☆
A grieving doctor and a nurturing professor join forces on a potentially groundbreaking medical study that sparks a profound connection neither saw coming.

Heart shattering warmly beautiful book! Ok so at first I wasn't going to read this book because of the type itself, "Somebody's Husband," just didn't sit right with me, but once I read the description it explained everything and this is not a story about infidelity, but of second chance romance. This story will definitely take you on a wild ride of emotions in the worst and best way possible! My own problem is it something had to many POV's and I would get a little confused on who was talking, but other then that. Highly recommend!

The audiobook is great; Dylan, the narrator, did a good job telling the story. He was easy to listen to. I listened to this story at 2x speed.

Thank you, Netgellay, and RB Media for the audiobook in exchange for my honest review.

This was such a beautiful story that really pulled me in. I loved seeing how Harper and Dresden grew throughout the book and how they helped each other work through their grief to find love again. Their connection added so much depth to the story.

What I really appreciated was that it wasn’t just about Harper and Dresden—it was about their whole family. Watching them help their kids navigate grief and accept that their parent had found love again made the story even more relatable and touching. It felt like a real journey of healing and hope.

There is one scene that might be a bit triggering for some readers, but I thought it was written with care and added to the emotional depth of the story. It wasn’t all sunshine and rainbows, but that’s what made it feel so real.

The narrator wasn’t my favorite, but after a while, I got used to it, and it didn’t take away from the story. Overall, this is such a hopeful and heartfelt read, and I’d definitely recommend it!

This story pulled at every heart string I have. Somebody’s Husband was pure with emotions and intense with love, grief, trust, family, illness, and heartache. Not going to lie, this book was worth every trigger warning given. Somebody’s Husband was beautifully written. Robbi Renee left nothing to the imagination. No questions needed to understand what was written and the story flowed effortlessly. Bravo to her! This will be a bestseller for sure. This is the realest book I’ve read in while. Having two strong characters was inspirational. I don’t know what I would do if I was in Harper and Dresden situations losing a significant other to cancer. This novel bleeds hope that there is always love on the other end of grief. Never to give up on that no matter what life brings you.

Enjoyed reading and listening to this story. The narrators were clear and concise.
fter losing the love of his life, Dr. Dresden Xavier decides it is time a for a change and moves his family back to his hometown and embarks on a clinical research project. Dresden feels he will never experience the love he once had until a business meeting when he encounters Professor Harper Kingsley. Feelings he thought were dormant, explode and Dresden is tongue-tied when in the beautiful professor’s presence. Harper is just as affected by her instance attraction to Dresden, but she feels she has too much on her plate to entertain a relationship. As the two work on the clinical trials, the attraction grows as the pair interact and learn more about each other. They are drawn to each other through shared losses but try to fight the attraction. As the saying goes, the heart knows what it wants, however Dresden and Harper must fight their grief and open their hearts to another chance at love.

This was my first time reading Robbi Renee’s work and I was thoroughly enthralled with the storyline and the character development. Ms. Renee does a great job setting the scene and weaving a tale of loss and trying to step out and take a chance on love again. Dresden was man who loved hard and, in his words, knew “only one way to do it”. He was portrayed as a man of integrity and a renowned physician. His heart knew Harper before his head caught up. Harper has always been a survivor and independent. She had the personality type of when she needed something and people failed to come through for her, she would figure it out. She felt she was not “seen.” As she works with Dresden and gets to know him more, she realizes he “sees her” This story will take readers through various emotions, and certain scenes will brings tears.

This is a story of healing, bereavement, comfort, and forgiveness. Most of all, seeing two people who have lost love ones find their way to each other and experience a love of their own. Overall, I enjoyed Somebody’s Husband.

I received an advance copy and audio from Netgalley

*Received from Net Galley and Black Odyssey Media for the ARC. *

After reading Somebody’s wife and Somebody’s forever, I was excited to read this story. Overall the story was great. It was definitely a slow burn. Finding love and overcoming different types of grief is the central topic of this book and is dealt with very well. Dylan was good, but there were times when having one narrator made the story seem like one long run on sentence and the character voices inconsistent.
I’m glad that they got their HEA. I feel like the beginning of the story was drug out and then we rushed through the love/relationship part. I would have like to hear more about the kids relationship. Maybe a short Christmas catchup in the future?

One of my favorite quotes. “Solace, is what they found in each other.”

This exceptional story thoughtfully explores the journey of finding love after divorce and loss. Dr. Xavier decides to move to a new city for a fresh start with his children and meets Nurse Harper, who is dealing with her ex-husband’s passing.

I appreciate the advance reading copy from NetGalley and Black Odyssey Media. The book engaged me from start to finish! Robbi’s portrayal of love emerging from grief is both insightful and poignant, especially as the characters in their forties navigate loss and rekindled romance.

Note that the book contains some spicy elements.

Dr. Dresden Xavier’s return to Monroe City leads to a groundbreaking medical study with nursing professor Harper Kingsley. What begins as a short-term partnership evolves into a meaningful connection, showcasing the complexity of love amid grief. I highly recommend this read for its depth and emotional impact!

Dylan !!!! You did a beautiful job at narrorating this story. Often times when a male narrorator voices both male and female characters, it can sound crazy if I’m honest but I think Dylan did a beautiful job navigating through this story. This story is one of love and loss. If you found your soul mate and loss then due to death, would you be able to love again ? Both Harper and Dresden find each other while working on a clinical trial together. They are drawn to each other but each of the, are navigating through a tough time individually. They will find comfort in each other. You can honor the people you have loved and loss while moving on with your life.

I loved Somebody’s Wife so much, and I was highly anticipating reading Somebody’s Husband. I received the Audiobook and was not disappointed.

The connection beyond grief that the two main characters had was so genuine. Their stories were so similar, and they had so much in common beyond the loss of their spouses. This novel pulled on my heartstrings because it allowed me as the reader to see the strength and the opportunity to love even after death rocks your world. Robbi Renee knows how to make a swoon-worthy male main character that you can’t stop thinking about!!
