I thought this book was really good. It gave insight on Gypsy’s life and things that the movies and tv series and news didn’t tell. It goes through her life story and everything that led up to her moms murder up until the point midway of her pregnancy. I felt this book was very informative and well written especially from someone who didn’t have a formal education and had to get all her education while in prison. I really enjoyed it and look forward to seeing if she writes more!

i normally do not give a star rating to memoirs, as i don't want to put a numerical value on someone's life story, but for netgalley i'll be giving this one a 4/5. looking over other goodreads reviews, i honestly think it's pretty unbecoming of many users to take the time out of their day to make an account JUST to review bomb "my time to stand". you may not like gypsy. you may not like her social media presence. however, it is WRONG to rate and review a book you did not even read just because you simply don't like the author. at the end of the day, none of us were there the night of june 10, 2015, nor were any of us there during gypsy's upbringing, therefore none of us can speak on whether she is "lying" or not.

as someone who has kept up with gypsy's story for many years, i was extremely excited when i got approved for this audiobook. gypsy herself is the narrator, and that really heightened the experience because i got to hear it as it was intended to be heard. i have a lot of opinions on her story, her choices post-release, etc, and i wanted to see if "my time to stand" would change or strengthen them. regardless of your opinion on her, you cannot deny that gypsy-rose possesses extreme resilience. this memoir was unflinchingly vulnerable and honest.

what made me dock a star is i wanted a little more on her life post-release, especially the transition from ryan to ken, and after that. i feel as though that time of her life was glossed over, but i know memoirs are supposed to be on the shorter side, and a lot of that time period is depicted on her lifetime show.

I knew some of Gypsy Rose's story, but this was honestly shocking. I was captivated from the beginning and listened all the way through. This was the perfect binge-able memoir for a long car ride. Before reading, definitely check the content warnings, and be mindful that this is Gypsy's memory from her perspective, so there can obviously be some bias.

I wasn't sure how I would feel about her as a narrator, but she did a phenomenal job of telling her story and showing her emotion.

Gypsy-Rose Blanchard, a victim of Munchausen-by-Proxy, suffered at the hands of her mother for years in silence until one day her story takes the world by storm as her and her now ex-boyfriend are charged with the murder of her mother. But why did she do it? And what were her mother's motives (besides the syndrome)? With never-told-before details, Blanchard tells al in her debut memoir, "My Time to Stand,"

With an authentic and visceral writing style, Gypsy-Rose Blanchard's debut memoir is not one to miss.

I've long been fascinated by the Gypsy Rose case and enjoyed this reflection of her life before and after the murder of her mother.

Narrated by Gypsy herself it comes across as a plain speaking recollection without seeking sympathy and for that I admire her.

In no way do I believe that murder is the answer but yet I have to wonder what would have become of Gypsy if it would never have happened.

Thanks to the publisher and the author for an advanced copy of this audiobook.

Having watched a number of Gypsy’s documentaries/series, this memoir included some childhood background that hadn’t been included. Gypsy also included some context to her childhood as well as her mother’s history while including personal reflection to what happened. I received the ARC audiobook and appreciated Gypsy as the narrator. It feels like a more honest and transparent memoir.

Thank you, NetGalley and RBmedia | Recorded Books for this ARC audiobook for review. Munchausen by proxy is a horrible thing to have to live through and it is extremely upsetting that Gypsy-Rose was seen by so many medical professionals, social workers, and case workers and yet, no one helped her or recognized that she was being abused by her mother for years. It is sad that Gypsy-Rose felt there was no other way to get away from her abusive and controlling mother. Gypsy-Rose tells of many of the procedures her mother forced her through here as well as how she tries to grow up and have boyfriends, although these relationships are not healthy and must be in secret from her mother. Gypsy also tells of her time in jail. Hopefully this book, for those who will read it and not just her, will shed light on Munchausen by proxy.

This is an interesting read for someone who is familiar with this tragic story. While the facts are basically the same, it was compelling to read Gypsy’s point of view. There are tons of negative reviews from people who obviously haven’t read it. On its own merit, this is a good memoir that stops at the beginning of a young woman’s life.

To preface this review… prior to reading this book, I knew very little about the author. I knew she was in jail and it was related to a murder. But other details, I did not know. Holy Hannah. This whole book has 100 levels of shock value. How she was raised, how she lived, how a murder occurred. My feelings of indifference remain towards the whole case, but the level of interest in her mother’s mental health condition and to be honest the authors mental health is high. Rating higher for level of interest.

I received a copy of this audiobook in return for my honest review. All opinions are honest and my own!

As someone who has followed this case for years, I was interested in this book. I liked that Gypsy narrates the audiobook, because this is her story. There wasn’t a whole lot of new information here for anyone who has watched the “Mommy Dead and Dearest” documentary and the interviews/series on Lifetime, but I feel like this book bound up a lot of information through the voice of point of view of Gypsy. I especially found the prison chapters interesting, maybe because that’s the part I know least about this case. Overall, I enjoyed the audiobook a lot.

There is no doubt the system failed Gypsy, but we will never be able to separate fact from fiction in her story (and social media actions) due to the other party no longer being available to speak their side. There is so much I believe in "My Time to Stand" but it's time for Gypsy to step back from the spotlight, fully take responsibility for her behavior and try to lead as much of a normal life as possible.

This was a well-written, deeply personal memoir. I've heard a lot from others about Gypsy-Rose's story, but I really appreciated being able to hear it directly from her in the way that she experienced it. She did a great job with the narration as well.

I always found Gypsy’s story interesting and of course sad. I’ve followed it from the beginning so I already knew most of the stuff that was said in the book. But I still can’t even imagine growing up like that. People that should have kept her safe, did not. It’s a really tough story. I hope now she can live her life and enjoy it. I enjoyed listening to her narrate the story. Thank you so much NetGalley, RBmedia and Gypsy-Rose Blanchard, Melissa Moore, Michele Matrisciani for the advanced audio copy!

I don't feel as if I actually read the whole book as I definitely did a lot of skimming towards the middle to end. I am happy for anyone to find their voice and I hope that she is telling the truth, however, the graphic parts were not necessary.

I believe that therapy will be better than writing a book.

I was so interested in this book and was even more thrilled for the audiobook but I need to DNF the audio version and just read it. Gypsy (by no fault of her own) makes a lot of additional noises due to some of the traumas she experienced when she was younger and unfortunately, those noises are too distracting for me to give the book the attention it deserves. I will pick up the book and forgo the audio version, unfortunately.

Gypsy tells you that this a true crime book, but it really is. She describes the crimes committed against her by her mother and the lack of the medical association or even school districts to rescue her. She runs away from home, no one believed her and a new surgery might silence her forever…..it seems to me she felt she had no way to get out.

I received an ARC copy of the audiobook from netgalley. I rated this book 3.5 stars. This was a very high profile case and was interesting to see gypsy's side of the story, as the say there are 3 sides of every story. I will start by saying that no matter if this is fully true or not we can say that this girl was always going to have issues as an adult, I mean who wouldn't with such a dysfunctional childhood. However I do feel a lot of what was said felt quite dramatized and maybe not 100% true, some parts felt authentic however some parts felt written for an audience. All in all it was an interesting read/listen

As always, I struggle when it comes to rating someone’s account of their own life. Of course I know Gypsy’s story… it has been all over the internet. Aside from what I’ve seen on the media, I wanted to read about the story from the source - I’ve never watched The Act or any of the documentaries so I was ready to deep dive into the history of it from the person that lived it. The details of her sad and sheltered childhood were not unexpected, and it was easy to see how an emotionally repressed and stunted girl ended up meeting someone online and being controlled in a way that was new yet also similar to how her mother controlled her. Gypsy was just looking for freedom and for someone to be in her corner. The details of her relationship with Godejohn were unknown to me before reading this and it made me sad to hear about their dynamic… yet with Gypsy being how she was at the time, I’m sure a mature and mentally healthy man would not have pursued a relationship with her so it tracks that she ended up with someone like him.

It seems that Gypsy’s time in prison was truly a time of growing up and figuring out who she was, yet she still maintains a lot of that naïveté. Her marriage to Ryan was largely glossed over with no talk whatsoever of why they separated and my feelings on that are twofold. Happy that she was mature enough not to put Ryan’s personal life out for public view, yet at the same time how can you write the story of your life without speaking on such a big moment in it? I hope for her child’s sake that she takes a step back from the social media circus.

Thank you to NetGalley and RBmedia for giving me the opportunity to listen to this audiobook.

🎧 Audiobook Review

I was excited to have the opportunity to listen to Gypsy-Rose's audiobook memoir. I have followed her case for many years, but I always believed that she deserved as much privacy and normalcy as possible. I thought it was cool that she was narrating her own book, which I have not seen before. This book provided more insight into what Gypsy endured during her childhood and really made me understand her more. I felt so much empathy for her throughout. She certainly did not leave out any details and I am sure it was incredibly difficult to relieve throughout the development of her book. I really appreciate Gypsy sharing her story with the world.
