Thanks netgalley and publisher for a chance to listen to this audio for free in return for my honest opinion.

I have lots to say about this book and I thought it would be a great opinion for bookclub discussions.

I didn’t love the audio because of her voice but that’s not her fault. This book is very eye opening. I’ve seen all the documentaries and read the books but it’s still so shocking to me how mentally ill her mother actually was. Also can’t believe how much DCF and the doctors failed her as well and how the doctors did unnecessary things just because the mother said she was sick.

Honestly I know people don’t agree and think gypsy rose should have gotten more jail time but she’s been in prison her whole life, I don’t agree. I think the system failed her and if they didn’t fail her, her mother would probably still be alive.

I recommend giving this book a read.

Let's be real here: Gypsy-Rose Blanchard is a very controversial figure, & I know that people have very strong opinions on her. Before I go into my thoughts, I want to share a few things:

1) We will never fully know what is true here.
2) She is both a murderer & a victim; Those two things can exist at the same time.
3) She’s served her sentence & is now free to do whatever she wants (& bare the consequences).
4)You have free will to support her or not by buying this book.

With all of that said: This is the same story that has been told by Gypsy-Rose in the multitude of interviews that she’s given both in & out of prison. If you know her story, then you've practically read this book, as it recounts her traumatic childhood, her role in her mother Dee Dee's murder, & her journey toward rebuilding her life after prison.

Obviously this was a pretty heavy book, with lots of detail. There were a few times where I had to pause the audiobook & simply take a short break due to how graphic & descriptive some things were.

The audiobook format added an additional layer to the experience, bringing Gypsy's voice to life in a way that made her story feel even more intimate. Unfortunately, there were a few technical issues with the audiobook. There were words & whole sentences that were repeated & one sentence was started, stopped, & re-started again. Nothing overly terrible, but it did affect the listening experience a little bit.

PS: This Audiobook ARC was provided by the publisher via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

This was a really hard one to rate. But ultimately, this specific situation was what first got me into podcasts back when it happened in 2015. Munchausen by proxy has always fascinated me as well. So this was something I was really interested to delve into. Ultimately I found it really powerful, engrossing, even uplifting, and indicative of just how intense generational trauma can be.

This was really good I have watched and listened to most things about this story. I have been following since the start and I was so excited to hear from her perspective. It such a hard story and everyone has their opinions. I really enjoyed this audio book and I like the fact that she decided to do the narration.

Wow. This memoir by Gypsy Rose Blanchard is a deep dive into ger upbringing as a victim of munchausen by proxy at the hands of her own mother. The brutal honesty of her experiences of abuse and manipulation that he mother put her through really comes to light in her storytelling. I felt her sadness, but also her healing while reading her story. I read this in one sitting because I just couldn't put it down. It gave a whole new perspective to the sensationalized story that we all followed in real time back in 2015. By the end of this book, I truly felt a whole new understanding of who she was and how she felt like it was either her or her mother at the end. I, in no way defend her actions, but I understand the feeling of hopelessness and seeking the love and acceptance of another person. Someone who could come and save her. I give this a 10/10 and would recommend anyone who loves a good "villain" backstory. However, I don't consider her to be the villain at all, I find her to be the victim 100%.

I tend to not rate autobiographies just because why am I rating a book about their story and their life but for the sake of net galley I will be rating it 5 stars. It was nice to hear Gypsy-Rose’s side of her story and for to be able to tell us about what she experienced. I believe people judging for this and that is such bullshit. She’s a person who went through horrific abuse and did what she thought she had to do. As I said in one of my updates people hating on Gypsy-Rose are the same people that are obsessed with hot serial killer men or obsessive true crime listeners. With all that being said I highly recommend checking this out specifically the audiobook because Gypsy narrates it and truly get to tell her story!

Thank you to Netgalley for a chance to listen and review My Time To stand.

First off I always find it hard to rate someone's life story specially when its someone like Gypsy rose Blanchard.
As someone who finds Gypsy's story interesting I did enjoy listing to this audiobook.
I would say that most of the information in this book has been covered by Gypsy before eg her reality show, previous interviews before.
That said id rate this a solid 3 stars

Thank you #Netgalley for the audiobook!

This was an interesting listen learning about Gypsy from her own point of view compared to the numerous documentaries and adaptations of her story. There were more disturbing details she shared about her traumatic upbringing and what led her to take the actions she did. We also learn more about her re entry into the real world this year and how she adapted.

Thank you NetGalley for the advanced copy of this audiobook. Yowza! This was A-LOT and almost too much for me to stomach at times. I was not very familiar with Gypsy's story, but I had heard bits and pieces of it, so I thought I would see what she had to say. I truly don't know if I can believe all of what she says was done to her throughout her life because it is absolutely horrifying and that is not even touching on the fact that she was an accomplice in her Mother's murder seems to not have any remorse. Disturbing!

I started this book with a very surface level understanding of what happened to Gypsy-rose. The extent of my knowledge was that DeeDee her mum, had Munchausen by proxy and had abused her daughter, and eventually her daughter was involved in her murder.

This book while it was heart breaking and challenging at points is also a very hopeful story of someone taking their life back. She is aware that her actions have led her to committing a crime but in my opinion, would you really have been so different in her shoes?

It hurt to read about the people around her who failed her, social services, doctors, the school system they all severely dropped the ball here and I hope they can make some serious damn changed so that this can be avoided again. This whole story of abuse could have been stopped if the people who saw the inconsistencies said something instead of brushing it off.

Hearing her tell her own story and taking ownership of the narrative while also accepting responsibility for her mistakes is refreshing. This is a woman still finding her feet in the world and I loved to hear how hopeful and happy she is now that she has that freedom and life back. This book is one I would highly recommend to abuse survivors regardless of the kind of abuse you suffered I think the way Gypsy looks at her new opportunity is inspiring.

I’m so pleased I was able to read an Audio ARC through NetGalley. Thank you to the publisher and Gypsy for the audio in exchange for an honest review.

My honest thoughts are that Gypsy Rose should have waited a little longer to live back in the “real world” before writing a memoir. She came right out of prison to so much attention on social media, the marriage/divorce and then pregnancy… I think she just needs to take some time to live and settle. Five to ten years down the road may be a better time for her to tell her story.

Thank you to NetGalley for the advance review copy in return for an honest review. I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own. I haven’t really followed her story much so I don’t know what is true and what isn’t, but I still enjoyed listening to her story. She doesn’t have a great audio book voice so I do wish it was read by someone else though.

This story will always have two sides. Those that hate her and those that feel for her. I am one of those that feel for her. Munchhausen by Proxy is a real disorder that affects kids in ways that someone who had a normal life could never fathom. If you aren't taught right from wrong as a child and are manipulated enough you learn to just go along with the behaviors.

As soon as I saw that Gypsy-Rose came out with a memoir I knew that I had to read it. I was absolutely fascinated with this story years ago when I watched the documentary and then the HULU story. For those of you who do not know the story - Gypsy-Rose was raised by a mother who suffered from Munchhausen by Proxy. Gypsy-Rose endured many unnecessary medical procedures and appointments and was deprived basic rights to grow educationally/emotionally/physically. This ultimately led to Gypsy-Rose leaning on someone who she met online and ended up coming up with a plan to kill her mother so that she could get away from it all.

Okay, but first off, who am I? Another memoir? Either way, this was fantastic. This is Gypsy's story. She was an open book throughout the entire memoir. I commend her for that. She was abused and manipulated for majority of her life and this must have been so difficult to talk about but this also must have brought some closure to that part of her life. This is a tough story to read, but I think that it really brings mental illness and Munchhausen/Munchhausen by Proxy to light. I learned a lot about her life that led to the night that her mother died.

I listened to this via audiobook and Gypsy-Rose herself narrates the audiobook and I absolutely loved it. I flew through this in one sitting.

It takes bravery to do what Gypsy-Rose did and tell her story of manipulation, abuse which eventually led to the death of her mother. I wish her nothing but the best in life and in her newest adventure of becoming a mother herself. Highly recommend this memoir!! Huge thank you to Gypsy-Rose, NetGalley and Recorded Books Media for the ALC in exchange for my honest review.

Thank you to NetGalley for a copy of the audiobook in exchange for a review.

I will preface this by saying I do not typically rate memoirs - it is not my place to rate my enjoyment of somebody else’s life. This book is also surrounded by controversy which makes this review difficult to write without touching on said controversy. I listened to this book prior to reading other reviews and am attempting to discuss my thoughts without the influence of said controversy.

Gypsy narrates her own story which always elevates my reading experience of memoirs. Gypsy is very eloquently spoken and it is clear to me that she has spent some time consolidating and reflecting on her lived experience before putting a pen to paper. That being said, some parts of this story felt like rambling and could have been consolidated while others I felt could have afforded to have been expanded upon. This book very much felt like a project assigned to her by a therapist, rather than a complete tell-all, which made it an interesting experience as a reader. The story is, for the most part, told in chronological order however, there are parts where the timeline skips around which can cause confusion. Gypsy spends a significant amount of time discussing her relationship with her co-defendant and I would urge any reader to look up trigger warnings if this is a concern before diving into this one. These memories Gypsy tells I’m extremely graphic detail and if you are sensitive to these topics I would maybe consider skipping this story. I appreciated this part of the book as it gave a lot of context to their relationship leading up to her mother’s murder. I wish less time was spent on her two, very public, relationships during and post prison as I wasn’t as interested in those story lines. Overall, I think if you are interested in Gypsy’s story this is worth a read (would recommend the audiobook) however I do wish the focus was more on her life as a child rather than her romantic relationships during and post-prison.

Having followed the case in the media, watched documentaries and seen some of The Act it was still very insightful to hear Gypsy’s first hand experience in her own voice.
I wouldn’t say much is revealed that I didn’t already know but it was still an interesting read, although I could have done without some of the graphic sexual descriptions.
It sounds like Gypsy has been used and abused all of her life in one way or another and I hope that she has friends and family around her that can love and care for her now.

This is a hard one to rate as it's uncertain how much of this is true and how much is Gypsy-Rose's perception of what's true.

This goes into depth and add humanity to a story that many of us have seen or heard about.

Gypsy-Rose does a greta job narrating this and really makes you believe what's she's saying which definitely add to the confusion as a listener about what to believe.

Overall this is an interesting listen for anyone who has followed this story in other media but personally I took a lot of it at face value due to it not being impartial.

I don’t think I have ever rated a book a one star before, but I feel pretty strongly about not recommending this book.

Being interested in the story, I was curious to hear Gypsy’s side, but I don’t think anyone should have walked her through the process of writing this book.

There needs to be one million trigger warnings, it is graphic, but in a way that feels casual or even flippant. I understand that this was her reality, but should be discussed with greater care for those reading the book.

This is not a factual account of the story, it is Gypsy’s memories and her personal interpretation. While she herself did have a traumatic life, there is a lot here that reads like a child explaining a situation to adults who clearly experienced something kind of different. Some of the main points are there, but the viewpoint doesn’t match up with the facts. I don’t think she intentionally misrepresents events, but I am kind of shocked she was guided through the process of writing this so close to her release without much time for understanding the world outside of the bubble she grew up in and prison. 6-12 months out is not a whole lot of time to recover and become rooted in reality.

Gypsy-Rose was a victim of her mother’s abuse. And unfortunately, she thought that the only way out was killing her mother. Here, Gypsy tells what she remembers about her life. And what she doesn’t remember she has filled in the gaps from other people and documentation.

I really enjoyed this audiobook! It shines a light more on some of the things that happened to her and her mother that the public hasn’t been privy to. Gypsy’s story is a complicated one. You feel for her cause no one deserves to be abused but murder is never the answer. I love her hopeful outlook that she has. You can tell that she’s forgiven her mother and I think also herself for the things that have happened. I think this is a must read for those that know her story!

Thank you to Netgalley for allowing me to listen to this audiobook in exchange for an honest review!

Audiobook Review 🎧 | NetGalley ALC

Before I go into my thoughts I want people to realise a few things:

1. We will never know the truth
2. Two things can be true at the same time. Yes she’s a murderer and yes she’s a victim
3. She has serve her sentence and is free to do whatever she wants (and bare the consequences)
4. You have free will to support her or not by buying this book

Now that’s out of the way: TRIGGER WARNINGS!

This lacks CW for abuse, child abuse, molestation, rape, graphic description of pseudo BDSM practices that should have foot notes explaining that what is said in this book has ABSOLUTELY NO relevance whatsoever! This is NOT a representation of the BDSM community.

I had a really hard time going through certain passages that were REALLY hard to stomach.
The pacing was definitely uneven and some details could’ve been left out. Especially because in the audiobook there’s an interview portion where she mentions this book also being for her children and future generations. They don’t need all that if they want to know what happened but that’s just my 2 cents.

This story, before reading the book had me questioning my morals a lot over the years. I feel a lot of empathy for the child, for the mother as a child. But truthfully, murder cannot be excused and should not be the way out in most circumstances.

I wish her nothing but healing.

hank you to NetGalley and RBmedia for providing an advanced listener copy of this book. All opinions are my own.

Going into this book I already educated myself with her story through movies like the ACT or TV shows so I decided I wanted to listen to this on audiobook since it was her narrating. I understand people's point of view of saying she's a murderer but how can one say that and discard what her mother did to her as a child and that be okay? Listening to her tell her story felt like she finally got a chance to tell her story her way and from her mouth. It's absolutely devastating all this girl has endured and is still able to sustain a somewhat normal life. I sure know I would be traumatized and probably rocking back and forth in my closet somewhere. I will say knowing about her situation with her teeth getting removed, you can kind of hear a little bit of the wetness in her voice through audiobook but after a while it dissipates and you don't even notice it. I thought the book was going to be like every other person's memoir from the very beginning of her life but she did a pretty good job of answering the Public's questions about what really went down in certain scenarios and really went into detail about some of the most grotesque things she had to go through with her mom and her ex-boyfriend.
