The Three Lives of Cate Kay follows an elusive author with a very well-known book (and subsequent movie) series who has coveted multiple names and identities throughout her life. Her story, filled with love and regrets, is told through excerpts by those around her as well as Cate herself.

I had so much fun reading this!! I loved the multiple perspectives and Cate’s footnotes. I was drawn into all of her relationships because they were all so different and revealed different aspects about Cate’s personalities. I was never really rooting for any one particular person, as they all had their share of flaws but I still really enjoyed reading from all of their perspectives. The way it all tied in with her novel/film series was especially interesting and I thought everything was written so beautifully. The little snippets of the novel scattered throughout the novel really made it all the more compelling. Furthermore, I like how messy Cate is and how she kind of acknowledges it but also not really. Seeing her continually self-destruct was painful but also very on brand. Loved her!

Overall, a super interesting premise that I thought was executed really well. Will definitely be keeping my eye out for Fagan’s future novels!

Thank you to NetGalley and Simon & Schuster Canada for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I want to thank thank Simon & Schuster Canada for this ARC copy of "The Three Lives of Cate Kay" by Kate Fagan. It was advertised similar to The seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo, which is true. I love these types of stories that unfold with different POV'S over time. It took me a while to get into this as at 69 chapters it is quite long but I finished this in about 4 days so its a real easy read once it gets going.

I was really feeling for Annie/Cass/Kate as just picking growing up in a town like that with feelings for your best friend then being forced to leave after a tragic accident. The premise of the story is its getting told in retrospect with notes from "Cass" sprinkled in but still thinking about how she felt at the time.

My jaw was on the floor at certain points with how horrible certain characters were and I did cry at points. This is a solid 4.8/5 stars because the writing and story was very well done, I felt it was a bit long and I wish there was more fleshed out for the other POV'S other than Ryan and Cass's. I'd definitely recommend this to people and I do hope you pick up a copy when it comes out next year
