This seems a little bit all over the place, like two stories were put together into one volume. This is definitely not something you can pick up if you haven't watched the show, as it assumes you know a whole lot of backstory that I was lost on.

gen 1 monster high in the year of our lord 2025?? dreams do come true
first of all, the art is absolutely gorgeous and i’m actually so obsessed with all the character designs.
the story itself was amazing. i was actually surprised at how it covered more deeper and intense topics (ex. grief, divorce, friend groups falling apart, the effects of insurmountable pressure) than those in the cartoon and i’m all for it because it was done so well. i think it was a great addition to the lore and added more depth and maturity to the series. also canon torelai x clawdeen?? yes pls
the underlying mystery was also really interesting and creepy
this volume isn’t even out yet but i desperately need the next one right now

I love Monster High since I was a child and my love for it hasn't change even as a adult. But I could get into it .
I love that the ghouls had the same outfit as G1 but the storyline was inspired by the reboot and I do not care about it.
Will probably pick it up later on but right now it is not it.

I have been provided an e-ARC by NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
This was really cute, I loved the art style and I am absolutely gripped to see what happens next, I think the only criticism I can give is that as much as I enjoyed the spooky puns like the use in the TV Show, I think they were used a little too often here, otherwise this was a great way back into the Monster High Universe. I hope that the next volumes are heavier on Draculaura she is one of my favourites.

I love love love Monster High, the characters are so fun and cute. The silly wordplay makes me laugh every time. There’s an underlying mystery throughout the story, and I can’t wait for the next volume.

Thank you NetGalley and IDW for the e-ARC

I thought this was cute but unlike most comics didn’t confine the story arc to the volume which is kind of frustrating. While I appreciate the addition of the FCBD and Pride issues, I’d have rather had a full story in the volume. The puns were a bit overdone, even for the target audience. That said, I liked the art work quite a bit!

Thank you Netgalley and IDW Publishing for the ARC!
I love Monster High and seeing the book I had to read it! The comic follows the main girls and their lives on campus and within their families and how they are impacted by it in their daily lives. There's also some underlying mystery going on in the background along with puns and other delightful references to current times and to the origins of the tales that inspired each girl. Overall a great read!

Thank you to netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read this arc.
I got this arc to read with my daughter. She loves monster high and graphic novels so this was the best to read together at bedtime. She loved it- can’t wait to read more!

Thank you to Netgalley and IDW Publishing for the e-arc!
I am a huge fan of the Monster High franchise and have watched the many different adaptations. I hadn't known it had a comic series and was intrigued when I saw this popup on NetGalley. This comic collection follows our main squad as they are starting a new semester at Monster High. There seems to be some tension between the characters as well as their personal lives. There's also a mystery going on behind the scenes with the headmaster and other administration at the school. I thought this was a fun collection and I am looking forward to continuing this series. If you are a fan of this series, I highly recommend it.

As a long-time fan of Monster High, I’m happy to say this didn’t disappoint.
The style of the illustrations they've chosen has been a good choice! The art style feels super "Monster High-ish" and definitely has the right vibe.
The book starts with a shorter adventure, which is a fun (and complete!) read. After that, the longer storyline kicks off, and you are thrown into an adventure. There is lots of mystery and I was hooked. The idea of the story is so cool, and now I can’t stop thinking about where it will go next. I’m honestly sad that I have to wait to find out!
If you’re an old fan of Monster High or just love a good mix of creepy-cute storytelling and want to become a new fan, this one’s a must-try. Art style and plot combined, it captures the fun and spooky vibe I’ve personally always loved -and still love- about the franchise.

This was a great graphic novel that was a fun read. The graphics were so colorful and wonderful. This will be a fun book to share with kids.

This was really cute and fun! It really hit on the vibe of the show. The wordplay was a bit ridiculous and got really annoying but overall I enjoyed this. I particularly loved the art style and how authentic the characters felt

It's awesome to see the ghouls back in such a gorgeous new art style. I think the highlight of this new series is definitely going to be the looks. With plenty of cameos from the students that you know and love, this feels like a love letter to fans who grew up with the movies and dolls.
Gotta say, though. The over reliance on puns and wordplay (icktok, really?) had me eventually rolling my eyes. Pretty much every speech bubble had one and while they work fine in spoken dialogue for the movies, they get really hard to digest when you're constantly reading one every sentence.
I think this is a great look at how friend groups fall apart and things change throughout high school, with an added mystery or two for good measure. Can't wait for the next volume.

"Monster High: New Scaremester, Vol. 1" is a YA graphic novel written by Jacque Aye, Hannah Templer, and Megan Brown and illustrated by Caroline Shuda, Siobhan Keenan, and Bowen McCurdy. It collects issues 1-4 of "New Scaremester" and the "Monster High: Pride" special comic. If you don't know much about the characters to begin with, you may be a bit confused at first because the novel just throws you immediately into it, however I think this graphic novel will mostly appeal to those already familiar with Monster High. We start with stories from the Pride comic, with Clawdeen and Toralei dating and wanting to create a cool forest hangout for the summer. After the Pride stories, we move into the New Scaremester where people are mysteriously going missing, along with the regular stresses of high school. A recommended purchase where Monster High is popular.

Amazing art work and storyline. Kids and adults alike will fall in love with this series. It is a quick read that you will reread again and again.

CUUUTTEEE!!! I didn't realize just how queer monster high really is!! What a great series! It definitely makes me want to read more.

so far I think this is a pretty good addition to the original G1 lore, the art is stunning and I think this is going to be a hit with not only Monster High Superfans but also anyone else who might stumble upon it.

Wow! I just have to say that I really loved this. The art is amazing and the story is captivating.
I truly believe that this is amazing for both long-time monster high fans, and for newbies. As someone who grew up with monster high and liked it, but never was really into it i still get the story and you don't really need a bug understanding of characters to understand them. They are well explained and thought through.
It's also a personal plus that it's in the gen 1 style, ans that is my favorite.

As with other comic compendiums, there are a few holes here that make you wonder what you've missed in the main run. I had to look up what Draculaura was talking about with her dad (there was, as it turned out, a companion YA novel that told that story) and a few other things that happened just to make sure I wasn't missing anything.
All that aside: Monster High! Is! Back! Can't wait to share this with patrons!

As a Monster High fan, I am very impressed with this. The art is bright without being overwhelming and the characters are true to their natures.
