Final Victim by Gregg Olsen picks up right where the previous book ended. Detective Megan Carpenter is returning to Port Townsend after solving her partner, Ronnie's, mother's kidnapping. Ronnie stayed behind to be with her family for a bit. On the travel home, Nan (the sheriff's busy-body assistant) calls Megan to let her know that "Wallace" stopped by the station to see her. Wallace is Megan's stalker and has been emailing her over the years. He indicates he may know about Megan's past - a past she has moved away from and wants desperately to keep behind her. Also, Megan is called to a cross-jurisdictional crime scene to help with the murder of a police officer. Which introduces a number of new and fun characters - including Donna, who shares Ronnie's digital expertise. The expanded team, along with the Sheriff who is not adhering to his wife's diet, are such an incredible and tight cast. I hope Mr. Olsen keeps them in his books (especially Patterson and Donna - who have a lot of the same qualities of the dynamic duo of Ronnie and Megan). The murder case quickly spirals as the team investigates and learns of more law enforcement deaths in the region. Absolutely faburous! I cannot wait for the next book!!! Final Victim is an engaging read with lots of action, mystery, humor. Megan doubts her reasons for being a detective, a position in which she can kill. Is she just answering her inner instincts? Her life unravels when Wallace's threats become too near home, then Caleb - an almost boyfriend from her past - shows up, and things start to get enven more creepier, it seems like her past is knocking at her door and it'll swallow her. I could not put the book down once I started reading it!

This book cpuld be read as a standalone as the author tries to keep ypu up to date with what's happened to pur detective. But I feel it would benefit everyone hugely to read as much of the background as possie via the other books.
It's still a good crime thriller. It's a brilliant t edge of your seat,pieces fitting together piece of work.
I enjoyed it as my anxiety steadily rose. And I was really worried for our characters at points!

Ohh how I have missed Gregg Olsen’s Detective Megan Carpenter’s Series! I have been a huge fan of the series since his first book came out. Even though I am sad to learn The Final Victim is Gregg’s last in the series-he saved the best twists for last.

If you have not read any of Gregg’s Detective Megan Carpenter’s series I highly suggest you do because they are each amazing stories! However, you could read it as a standalone. I say this because Gregg refreshes the reader of the ups and downs of Megan’s past and how it has shaped the woman she has become now.

Megan’s stalker Wallace brought out all the mysterious twists and turns that kept me on the edge of my comfy chair, wide eyed, and glued to my kindle.

This was a twisted must read book that you have to add to your TBR list.

I just couldn't get into this book. It seemed all over the place with a lot of characters and just didn't read smoothly for me. I kept realizing that I was having to read the same paragraph again and again because it just wasn't holding my attention. Finally gave up and didn't finish.

I read books 1-5 to prepare for this ARC and I am glad that I did. There was so much backstory I would have missed. I love me some Det. Megan Carpenter, she is such a kick-ass woman. This wasn't my 1st foray into Gregg Olsen's books but it is my 1st time reading his fiction books. He has made the jump form nonfiction to fiction seamlessly. He is now on my always-read list.

This is a fast-paced book with plenty of twists and touches of humour. I found it a bit difficult to follow at first because the author feeds you Megan's past from the previous five books which I hadn't read. Despite that, I enjoyed the story and it's an easy read.

Absolutely loved this book. Kept me engaged and on the edge of my seat the entire time… and really didn’t want it to end. Easy 5 star read!

This was an absolutely gripping story! I thoroughly enjoyed Megan’s character and learning about her past. Was such a thrilling read I never saw the twist coming! Which was a pleasant surprise! I am now going to have to go back and read the rest of the books with Megan Carpenter! Thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for the arc!!

This was my first book in the Megan Carpenter series. I was not aware this was a series and while it does read ok as a standalone, I would recommend reading them in order. That being said, this was a fast-paced police procedural. It was a quick read with a decent amount of suspense. The transition from chapter to chapter was smooth and the multiple POV is always fun.

The story starts out with Wallace’s POV. A serial killer that occupies the main character's headspace. Most of the book is told from Megan's POV but the relationship between the two is the main focus of the book. I read this book in about a day, so it was definitely suspenseful and captivating. I was invested in the main characters and appreciated the character building. Megan is a fun main character and now that I know this is a series, I will definitely read the rest!

This is book 6 in the Detective Megan Carpenter series but it’s my first. I would recommend that you start at the beginning as there is a lot of reference to Megan’s backstory which is an interesting one. I didn’t feel like I was missing out as your given enough detail at the time. BUT I feel if I was to go back to the others I would know the outcome before knowing the story if that makes sense. But Final Victim was a fast paced engaging read that I couldn’t put down. It has a really well developed storyline, quirky characters and relationships that will keep you engaged and turning those pages. I could see myself getting very invested in the characters. I really enjoyed it and would recommend as it seems like a really good book series and I look forward to reading more in the series.

Final Victim is an enthralling, fast paced crime thriller that will reel you in from the first chapter and keep you hooked until the last page. I honestly couldn’t put this book down because each chapter had a gradual build up and would literally leave me breathless. A crescendo of suspense made it difficult to find a good place to break away for a bit. I couldn’t resist seeing how each chapter/ storyline played out. I also wanted to find out more about each character.

Each character in the book had depth and personality, and I enjoyed getting to know them. The main character, Megan, is very independent, strong willed yet also guarded. She has a past of secrets, traumas and struggles that she has worked hard to ensure stay hidden from even those closest to her. Although she isn’t forthcoming with her history, she truly cares and attempts to look out for her small circle of friends. Two people are and will always be in her corner: Ronnie who has all the qualities anyone would want in a best friend and work partner, and Dan who is a caring and compassionate boyfriend that supports Megan in all her endeavors. As the book progresses you become more invested in the people in Megan’s life.

The Prologue comes from a man named Wallace’s perspective. He is a mysterious serial killer that haunts the main character, Megan’s, thoughts. He ensures she can not undo the ties that bind her to her past, and he does everything in his power to keep her from feeling safe. Occasionally throughout the book you see things play out from his perspective. Mainly we are seeing events unfold from Megan’s point of view as a detective who is covering or has covered multiple cases with the commonality of cops or detectives who have been brutally murdered. Wallace is obviously captivated by Megan and all the murders seem to have a link to him. He keeps himself two steps ahead of Megan and her colleagues. You spend the majority of the book trying to find the connection between the two and find out his intentions.

I didn’t realize going into this book it was #6 in a series. The author did a great job explaining details that referenced the other books in the series so that I didn’t have to read past books to understand and enjoy this one. Overall I give this a rating of 4 stars. There was some predictability throughout the book, but that didn’t stop me from wanting to know more. I am not a book series kind of girl, but I am now wanting to go back to read the beginning of Detective Megan’s story and would love to see future additions to this series as well.

Final Victim will be released January 22, 2025, and I highly recommend this book. It was my first book from Gregg Olsen, but definitely not my last.

This was a strong sixth entry in the Detective Megan Carpenter series, it had that element that I enjoyed from the previous five books. The overall feel was everything that I wanted and enjoyed in the thriller genre. The characters were everything that I was looking for and hope there is more in this series. Gregg Olsen has a strong writing style and can't wait for more.

Final Victim is book six of the Detective Megan Carpenter series and the author gives us a great big dose of Megan’s. As Riley, Megan hunted serial killers and took them out permanently. Now she tries to bring them to justice legally within the law. She has a stalker references her past and a serial killer murdering dirty cops. In an action packed thriller, Megan’s past comes crashing into her life leaving her hunting another killer. The book twists and turns but the whodunnit wasn’t a total shock. This is the first book I’ve read from this series and Megan is certainly a different detective. From bad things in her past that have happened to her and bad things she has done. Lots of twists and turns and a surprise ending. Now I need to catch up on the other books in this series.

Even though Final Victim is book number six in the Detective Megan Carpenter's series, I was able to follow the plot without reading the 5 previous books in the series.

Final Victim centers around Detective Carpenter being asked to help find the suspect behind the latest murder of a detective. The suspect appears to be a copycat killer who mimics a style Detective Carpenter is all too familiar with. With the help of a childhood friend, Detective Carpenter begins a cat and mouse chase to try to solve the crime. Is she the cat or is she the mouse??

While reading, I hope you take a liking to Nan. Her hard work and dedication found several vital pieces that helped solve the mystery behind the murders.

I love suspense with a twist and this book did not fall short on delivering just that.

Another very good, well written read in the Megan Carpenter series. I loved the developing characterisation, especially Ronnie who is very likeable and I was immersed from the beginning due to the fast pace and build up of suspense until the end. The clever ending left it open for a follow up, which I would definitely read. A good series in the crime fiction genre which I would recommend. Thanks to Net Galley for my ARC.
