My Father Always Finds Corpses by Lee Hollis is the first book in a new series and I cannot wait for the next one. Live is the daughter of director and childhood star, Jared Jarvis in the late detective Charlie who Jared is still morning. So needless to say she was born by a surrogate and when her want to be documentary Boyfriend Zelle pleedse with her for him to reunite her with her mother she doesn’t know if she wants to do it. Unfortunately Zelle, whose comprehension level is low so he takes that as yes please let’s do it immediately and she shows up at his studio to find a woman she’s never met her surrogate mom, Candy. Liv doesn’t want to tell Jared because when it comes to her parents she was much closer to Charlie but when she finds Zelle dad in his studio Jared is the first person she calls. Between her newly found siblings and those at the college there’s many suspects but only one culprit and live and Jared join up to find them. A lot of people say this was a fun read and I am absolutely going to say that and it is 100% the truth. I loved so many aspects of this book that the mystery to me was really secondary from Jared not wanting to date again to his best friend Leo and George not to leave kitty out and Liv was so likable as well as her uncle this was just a ton of fun and I loved it cannot wait for the next book. #NetGalley, #TheBlindReviewer, #MyHonestReview, #LeeHollis, #MyFatherAlwaysFindsCorpses,

This is a fun cozy mystery which looks like it might be the first in a series. Jarrod is a retired actor who is enjoying his time directing plays for the local theater group. Liz, his daughter, is a brand new graduate with a criminal justice degree. When a friend of Liz is found murdered, Jarrod and Liz team up as father-daughter crime fighters to solve the mystery. This will be super appealing to cozy mystery lovers, and the ages of Jarrod and Liz will provide appeal for multiple generations of readers, young and old. Fans of Deanna Raybourne's series about the retired government agents and fans of Richard Osman's books will love this.

Jarrod Jarvis, former child star who’s still recovering from the loss of his husband Charlie a decade or so earlier, is trying to reconnect to his twenty-something daughter Liv who was always closer to her other dad. However, when Liv stumbles on her boyfriend, he dashes over to help her, and then when she decides to do some poking around, he decides to help her, hoping that the investigation will bring them closer together.
First, I felt the description for this book was a bit misleading. While it made it sound like it was a huge part of the plot, the bit about Jarrod solving crimes was a paragraph or so when he was talking to some old friends. And then Liv hadn’t been dating Zel that long and wasn’t putting her career on hold for him. In fact, she was planning on having a serious discussion - possibly breaking up with him - when she found the body. She did object to the way he handed the reveal her birth mum when she asked him to go slow, and then he stood her up when she was going to introduce him to her dad. The description also skips over her uncle Brody (Charlie’s brother) who’s a former WWE-style wrestler who provides the muscle when the investigating duo need backup.
Second, I really enjoyed this book. While the mystery was fairly obvious, the quirky, fund side characters more than made up for it - Kitty, the former First Lady who’s now a widow; Leo and George another couple and close friends of Jarrod; Jim, the Secret Service Agent assigned to guard Kitty who Jarrod might just have a bit of a crush on. I also liked how part of the reason Jarrod got involved was to reconnect to his daughter - a unique reason for solving a crime.
Overall, highly recommended. I look forward to further adventures of Jarrod and Liv. I received a copy of this book through NetGalley.com which I voluntarily reviewed.

My Father Always Finds Corpses by Lee Hollis
Jarrod Jarvis is a former child star. The story starts with him rehearsing a play that he’s written. Jarrod is a gay man whose husband died ten years earlier. He is reluctant to move on even when his friends start trying to introduce him to possible love interests. He has an eclectic group of friends, one gay couple who go to an exercise class with him. One of them danced with Fosse. A former first lady, Kitty, is also a friend who not only invites him to celebrity parties, but she is also guilty of matchmaking. Jarrod has a reputation as an amateur sleuth. He had some success in the past investigating a few murders.
When Jarrod’s adult daughter, Liv’s boyfriend is murdered, the police think it’s a burglary gone wrong. Liv’s boyfriend was a film maker and at his death had been working on a documentary about Liv and her surrogate mother. Liv knew about her mother, but they had never met. She doesn’t accept the project wholeheartedly and asks Zel, her boyfriend, to give her a little time to think about it. Zel pushes ahead. Candy, her surrogate mother, is a kind person but Candy’s son and daughter are something else. Her son is creepy when he shows up unexpectedly at her apartment and pushes her to meet her father because he has a film project to discuss with him. The daughter is afraid Liv is trying to step in to take something away from Candy that would naturally go to her and her brother. The daughter also dates a scary biker guy.
When Zel is found dead, Liv, suspects Candy’s children. As they discover more clues the suspect list grows, and each new suspect brings Jarrod and Liv closer to danger.
This was a fun read. I loved the name dropping at the parties – George and Amal Clooney for one. Lee Hollis is a good storyteller. I was drawn into the story and found myself staying up too late at night to finish it. I would read more from this author.
Thanks to NetGalley and Kensington Cozies for this advanced readers copy for my honest review.

Liv has a problem. She is standing over a corpse just as predicted by a psychic. She had not believed her father when he had passed on the message, but here she is looking at her dead boyfriend. So she calls her dad, the police are called in, and now the duo has to entangle the mess the "boyfriend" has made of their lives. Especially when they realize that the pool of suspects is growing and politics could have played a part. A nicely paced cozy mystery starring a father-daughter duo in southern California. Who knows, it may be the start of a series?
Thanks Netgalley and Kensington Publishing for the opportunity to read this title!

A good cozy mystery with interesting characters. I think I just expected this book to be a little different than what it was, and unfortunately it just didn't grab me a much as I thought it would. Still a good weekend diversion.
Thanks to Netgalley for the ebook for review.

I read 20% but did not finish. I couldn't get into this. The writing style and story were not for me. Not rated anywhere else.

In this page-turner from Lee Holls, Jarrod Jarvis is a former child star at a loss at what to do now that the love of his life, Charlie is gone. He's been distant from their daughter, Liz, but is directing a play to keep his spirits up. Liz's boyfriend, Zel, breaks her trust by contacting her surrogate mother and setting up a surprise interview. When Liz goes to confront Zel, she finds him very dead. Working with her dad, who used to solve crimes like this before, they meet all sorts of characters - from a tough-as-nails Secret Service agent and the elegant former lady trying to set Jarrod up with him, to film students angry that Zel stole their ideas. It keeps you guessing until the very end.

Overall this was a delightful read from an author I have never had the pleasur of reading before.
The dynamic between Liv and Jerrod, a father-daughter duo, is the heart of this new series, with their interactions, backstory, and evolving relationships adding depth to the murder mystery. The writing is sharp and engaging, drawing me in after the first chapter, and the well-developed characters and unique plot kept me hooked.
I was thoroughly satisfied with how the crime unraveled and appreciated the strong foundation for future installments. I highly recommend this book and look forward to seeing where the series goes next—thank you to NetGalley and Kensington Publishing for the e-book ARC.

Lee Hollis’s latest mystery introduces Jarrod, a former child star struggling to revive his career while navigating fatherhood and unresolved grief. When his daughter Liv’s boyfriend turns up dead under suspicious circumstances, Jarrod and Liv—who has a background in criminal justice—find themselves tangled in a case that blends Hollywood glamour, family drama, and a compelling whodunit. Hollis crafts a charming and heartfelt father-daughter duo, adding humor and emotional depth to the mystery. Fans of classic detective stories with a showbiz twist will enjoy this engaging and well-paced read!

Anything by sister and brother duo authors writing as Lee Hollis just has to be great! This book starts a new series for them, and it is great indeed!
This series is about a father-daughter sleuthing duo. Jarrod, the father, is a former child star with a sleuthing past, and the daughter is Liv, who got a degree in criminal justice.
This book mixes the old Hollywood glamor scene with politics, relationships and a little bit of humor. It is very well written, and I was able to get into the book after the first chapter. The characters are believable, and the plot was very different. In the end, I was satisfied with the way the crime was resolved.
I highly recommend this book, and I look forward to reading the next book in this series.
Thank you, Net Galley and Kensington Publishing for offering me an advance readers copy to re
ad and post a personal review. I also thank Lee Hollis for writing it!

A lighthearted mystery with some interesting parts. I thought it was pretty easy to figure out, but I liked the characters.

Jarrod has his hands full. He's a former child star still trying, after all these years, to revive his career. He's putting on a play that he wrote and is directing himself, and things are not going great. After 10 years as a widow, Jarrod is finding that he's become more distant than he had ever wanted to be. He hasn't had a date in over a decade, his daughter hardly speaks to him, and his deceased husband's brother has a sketchy past that may be coming back to haunt them both when Liv's questionable boyfriend turns up dead in a studio that he came by through suspicious circumstances.
I love Lee Hollis's books. The Hayley Powell series is still my favorite, but this series may be a contender. This series is similar to the Poppy Harmon series, former actor in southern California, however it has a male main character. One thing I've always respected about Lee Hollis is that he can write a believable and sympathetic female main character, which is something few men can do. Turns out he can also write a really adorable male main character. Jarrod is so sweet, I loved him so much. Jarrod's daughter, Liv, is also a great character and together they make a team that I really related to. This book doesn't appear to be part of a series but the way it ended gave me the impression that it will be and I can't wait to read the next book.
I could write a longer review of this book but I will sum it up by saying if you enjoy cozy mysteries, this book needs to be on your TBR list. If you haven't read any books by Lee Hollis you should. Like, today.
Thank you to Lee Hollis, Kensington, and NetGalley for providing me with an ARC.

My Father Always Finds Corpses is a gripping blend of mystery and dark humor, following a man whose uncanny ability to stumble upon dead bodies turns into an eerie family legacy. The novel masterfully balances suspense and wit, keeping readers hooked as the protagonist navigates both crime scenes and personal dilemmas. With sharp prose and unexpected twists, it explores themes of fate, duty, and the absurdity of life’s coincidences. Perfect for fans of unconventional thrillers, this book is both unsettling and oddly charming.

A mystery solving dad and daughter team?
Set in balmy, rich adjacent Palm Springs?
With a little name dropping along the way?
Yes, please.
Found this to be an entertaining who done it. Jerrod's been mired in grief since the loss of his husband. He's been filling that void with a solid group of friends/extended family, his secondary career as a local playwright and an emotional distant relationship with Liv. The author did a solid job in constructing his character. It takes the unfortunate demise of his daughter Liv's boyfriend, to bridge that gap. Her background story is not as clear-still unsure where the two's relationship began to falter prior to their teaming up for their mystery busting adventure.
The first chapter set the scene and draws the reader in. A little red herring sprinkled here and there had the reader invested till the end. By the last chapter, the author comes full circle. Chose this after reading the blurb on NetGalley and attracted by the cover.

A quick one sitting read. You will feel a eange of emotions including awe, anger, excitement, and disgust. The secondary characters such as Kitty, Maude, and Butch. Liv's lack of listening to her instinct and dad, Jarrod, may upset you. Keep reading, the dips and curves are worth dealing with Liv and her surrogates shenanigans.

Cozy mystery with some charming characters a gay widower former child star and his daughter, but not really much of a mystery. Pleasant read and I imagine the start of a series, but really could have used more of a hook.
