Wow wow wow!! I cannot recommend this book enough. Belinda is in her 60s and has just been released from prison for the murder of her husband, She gets a job at a care home and strikes up a friendship with Mabel. Mable is resident of the home and also owns it. As there friendship blossoms, secrets unravel and the stories emerge. I don't want to spoil the ending but I will say it was excellent.

I really enjoyed this book. I enjoyed all three of the separate strands and didn’t work it out until the end. It was interesting to hear about the black shirts during the war and the way they used people to get them to help their cause. A bit of a different angle and it worked.Recommended.

I have previously enjoyed other Jane Corry books so when I had the chance to read an ARC of The Stranger in Room Six I jumped at the chance. As with other JC books, there is a strong element of suspense and as in some of her other books e.g. Coming to Find You an excellent interplay between events in contemporary life and WW2 (as well as in this book a further element of history from 12 years previously). I was really interested in the WW2 parts - and as a result I'm now interested in learning more about those aristocrats who were keen to follow Mosley. I have to say that I enjoyed the parts about prison life far less. The death of Belinda's husband and advice given by her solicitor all seemed a little limited - and I did query whether this was more of a plot device than reality. The tying together of all the elements at the end was neat but perhaps again felt a bit unrealistic. Nonetheless I really enjoyed reading the book and will continue to look for Jane Corry books in future.

I sort of enjoyed this book but I found it over explained certain points.

Told over two timelines - present day and during the Second World War- this book tells the story of an elderly lady and her convicted murderer career plus the mysterious stranger in room 6 who needs to find a list that is somewhere in the elderly ladie’s possessions.

I really enjoyed this book. The short chapters kept me engaged, and the writing was strong with a gripping storyline throughout. It offers a unique take on the genre, and I especially enjoyed the constantly shifting settings - from a prison one moment to the seaside the next. I'd definitely recommend it to anyone who enjoys thrillers

What the actual hell was that?
It's been fifteen years since Belinda was convicted of her husband's murder. Now, she's ready for her life to begin again, and she's set on that happening at Sunnyside Home for the Young at Heart. The owner, Mabel, has spent her life here. First as an evacuee during the Blitz and now as the care home's oldest resident, Mabel has held the secrets of this house for as long as she can remember. Secrets that could kill if in the wrong hands. But history won't stay hidden forever and someone is onto them both. Watching and listening from room number six, they'll stop at nothing to find out the truth. With a past this dark, is anyone as innocent as they seem?
Don't bother reading this book.
Thanks to NetGalley and Penguin General UK for giving me an advance copy.

Belinda life is very dull until that’s her husbands double life is exposed.
The books multiple PoV but they are very easy to follow.
Some parts felt a little unbelievable but other than that it was well written.

A dark but beautiful story which teaches of the power of forgiveness, especially forgiving yourself.

I really loved this book. The short chapters helped to keep me engaged, I thought it was well written and an engaging story line. It’s definitely an interesting take, and I enjoyed all the different settings, in a prison one minute, then by the sea the next.
I would recommend to anyone interested in thrillers.

Thanks to NetGalley and Penguin for the arc!

Read and reviewed in exchange for a free copy from Netgalley. I've enjoyed Corry's previous books, but I think this was one of my favourites. Although I didn't find it particularly tense and I wouldn't particularly consider it a thriller, I was compelled by both Mabel and Belinda's stories throughout. The characters were well-written, the book well-paced, and the revelations revealed skillfully. A moving, intriguing read.

First time from this author. I found it hard to get into but once I did it was ok.
It's worth a read and would definitely read another book from this author

I was disappointed with this story because it felt like it didn't quite go deep enough. It was going from one scene to the next, without giving more details - like when Belinda was sent to prison, there wasn't much reflection or the sheer grief she must have felt...

I liked the way the two women bonded and shared their stories, that was nice and authentic.

I just couldn't be fully immersed because it jumped from too many storylines too quickly without going deeper.

Belinda and Mabel, in the present day, are such ordinary people however, in flashbacks, they are revealed to be anything but. Their stories are heartbreaking, complex, intriguing, exciting and surprising.
This is what I love about Jane Corry's books. Her characters are always relatable and endearing, always the person you could be sitting next to in a restaurant and never knowing what secrets lie beneath the facade. She knows when to push you and when to step back, and leave you on the edge and she knows how to create the most satisfying endings.
Yet another triumphant tale, with some of our darkest history embedded within. Excellent.

This was a very enjoyable read following the lives of Mabel and Belinda in two different timelines and then in the present where their lives cross. Good suspense and a solid ending.

The stranger in Room six is another suspenseful read by the author Jane Corry.
Belinda wants to start a new life after been released from Prison after serving 15 years for murdering her husband, Gerald. She gets help faking a DBS certificate so she can get a job at the Sunnyside Care home in Devon where she meets the oldest resident Mable who is also the owner of the establishment. Whilst in Prison Belinda became a Listener in prison listen and giving advice to several inmates. So, she has no problem communicating with her. Which gets Mabel talking about her life during the Second world war. Where secrets about her Aunt Clarissa and Uncle called ‘the Conel’ wherever found out someone might die.
This was an interesting read about the two women from different generations and over all I did enjoy discovering the two women’s stories. But with the two life stories going back and forth at times I felt sometimes a bit confusing. But it did end it did have satisfying conclusion, 4 stars from me.

I was amazed at how quickly I read this book and really powers through it. That’s the sign of a good book - slipping it into your bag when you might be able to squeeze in a few minutes reading here and there. Loved it and such a great story.
